@Barney connecting those two spastic things is kind of random, typically there is some connection, some context to the metaphor and not just a random example of something. Granted there is an Aramaic phrase from the Jewish sages about passing an elephant through the hole of a niddle, which makes a bit more sense since if you want to use an animal that represents something big you are more likely to choose an elephant rather than a camel. The point still stands - this is kind of very random example for something Impossible to do where it would have been easier to choose more intuitive examples of impossible tasks.
I don't think he was arguing whether or not the camel line was right or wrong he just meant that a rope would have had better context in the metapor since we use string for needles, and a rope is an exaggerated form of the string which still would have the same outcome as you stated which it's an impossible task easier than the rich being righteous
The needle was slang for an arch in Jerusalem that just barely fit a camel! So the camel had to be stripped of all of it’s baggage to pass through. So the meaning becomes “strip yourself of worldly things to enter the kingdom of God” :)

For the camel and the eye of the needle, I think the end meaning is the same. To become rich more often than not (overwhelmingly more often at that) means you have to give into the sins of greed, lust, and pride. The vast majority of the rich become rich off the suffering and extortion of others, so it would be about as easy to pass a rope or camel through the eye of a needle, as it would for them to get into heaven (which is to say, impossible).

A similar metaphor about the camel going into the eye of the needle is mentioned in the Quran (bible of muslims), ["Surely those who receive our revelations with denial and arrogance, the gates of heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until (a camel) passes through the eye of a needle. This is how We reward the wicked. "] -Surah Al-A'raf Verse 40. Here the word camel in Arabic can be pronounced in two ways according to scholars. First, as "Al-Jamal" meaning camel the animal while others pronounced it a little bit differently as "Al-Jommal" which in Arabic doesn't require the changing of letters, meaning the big ropes used aboard ships.

Hochelaga, I’d also really like to know why you picked this as your channel name! For those who don’t know, “Hochelaga” was the name of the Iroquoian 16th century village that stood on the site of present-day Montreal, Canada!

7:09 explaining the fact by metaphor of a huge thing could fit through a very small 'eye/hole' of needle (where we insert the fiber into small hole for sawing purposes). It's explaining impossibilities of people to righteous with could be done ever.
In regards to the eye of a needle story, don’t you essentially get the same message with either version, being that the thing in question has too much to enter/pass through and should rid themselves of excess?
I recon when they say, “it is easier for a camel to go though the eye of the needle” (a sewing needle) ,they are implying that doing that impossible task would be easier then someone rich getting into heaven. As normally wealth has nothing to do with going to heaven. At least that how I take it. Quick edit: I don’t think it’s meant to be taken literally and it could have been a figure speech back then.
Hochelaga. What are your thoughts on the "jesus mysteries" by Peter Gandy? I read his 3 part series on the subject and took away a lot...would love to hear your take on it.
Just wanted to talk about the camel thing in 6:47, though yes its a rather strange metaphor its one which is common in middle eastern countries. We can see the same metaphor be used in the Quran in chapter 7 verse 40 saying: "Surely those who receive our revelations with denial and arrogance, the gates of heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. This is how We reward the wicked." I find it interesting that both of these holy books use the same metaphor in a similar context.
7:26 I think the meaning of the message is "It's easier for the weak/poor" to enter the needle which means the hardest thing to do in life (Enter the kingdom of god) than the rich duds
One of the most common mistakes made by scribes was caused by epistrophe, which is when consecutive lines end with the same set of words. For example, "And all nations compassed me about: *but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them* . They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: *but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them* ." - Psalm 118:10-11 The monk copied the first instance of the words *but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them* . Then when he looked back at the original text, his gaze happened to fall on the _second_ instance of the same words. He thought that that was what he'd just copied, so he then started copying the next line, and left out a line without realising.
Sort of. Mary is definitely called "Virgin" in the New Testament. But the NT quotes a passage from the Old Testament and applies it to Mary - that OT verse is Isaiah 7:14. The NT quotes it in Matthew 1:23. In the Hebrew Old Testament, Isaiah mentions that a woman in the future will conceive a son. The woman is called "amlah", which is a Hebrew word for a young woman. However, when the OT was translated to Greek, the woman was called "parthenos", which is a Greek word for virgin. Its this Greek version that Matthew quotes from when talking about Mary. Now, whether "virgin" is a mistranslstion or an accurate translation is controversial. Some people argue that the context of Isaiah shows the woman is a virgin. Some people disagree. But that is a whole different discussion.
No Jesus was said to be born without the "ritual" because Jesus is the Son of God but His ancestry come from Abraham. Anyway what I really want to say is God really love you so He send down His only Son and if you believe in Him you will be set free from the darkness of this world.

Just had a little story to share regarding the camel-rope case. In Bengal (now divided into the Indian state of West Bengal and the country Bangladesh, thanks to colonialism), we have many strange stories about Hindu deities that you won't find elsewhere. One such deals with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi (a couple) observing an austere poor priest and a callous drunkard who somehow always have enough money to drink. It's a story to illustrate how important is the trust in God for one's stability in life. I won't be going into the story here, but in some versions of that tale you have the mention of passing a big animal through the eye of a needle. In some 'Mangal Kabya' (verse stories about local deities) the incident of a god passing an elephant through the eye of a needle is mentioned. It's sort of a litmus test for believers- if you think god can do that, you pass, because technically god can do anything. Interesting how such a weird incident can be present in two different traditions.

So glad I stumbled upon your channel! I've been binge watching for 2 days now!😃
Can't wait for this channel to blow up
WHY WON'T TH-cam SEND ME THE NOTIFICATION I CLICKED THE DAMN BELL!
I wait for your videos with more excitement than the excitement I feel when I'm waiting for a cake to come out of the oven. And that is a lot.
hey! I currently binge watching your channel as I’ve just discovered it. this video reminded me about the opening scene in Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, where a bunch of robbers dressed as hasidic jews were discussing wrong translation from biblical Hebrew, and how the word ‘Virgin’ was translated in the literal sense, leading to a literal virgin giving birth to a child. you probably won’t see this message, but I’m curious if this is a real thing.
ps: love the amount of research you’re doing for your vids!
(sori for bad ingles)
I love your content, it’s so polished and educational. Your voice is also so soothing!
hochelaga, what does your name mean and what does the "h" symbol represent?
It look likes Cyrillic letter
it’s the symbol of saturn
Hochelaga, I’d also really like to know why you picked this as your channel name! For those who don’t know, “Hochelaga” was the name of the Iroquoian 16th century village that stood on the site of present-day Montreal, Canada!
@@nbako it's also a neighborhood that still exists in Montreal lol. It's like naming your TH-cam channel "Brooklyn"
@@RedRobin007Gaming yes, didn’t bother mentioning it, but that’s true!
The cute "Goodbye" at the end always gets me ☺️
Nice video as always, can't wait for you to break the 1 Million :)!
Hey, just wanna correct a small mistake in the video. The Hebrew version of Joshua is pronounced "Yeshua", just like you said the name expect there is no "V" in his name.
Love your vids! Super interesting
I think you are the only one of the channels I am subbed to that has not done the poll expoit
Hey I absolutely love your videos and was wondering if you could make a video on the different interpretations of hell
You are very good. Thanks for enriching my day with knowledge.
I love your channel. so glad I found it!
Hochelaga. What are your thoughts on the "jesus mysteries" by Peter Gandy? I read his 3 part series on the subject and took away a lot...would love to hear your take on it.
Thank you! As a Christian it irks me when people take the Bible word for word and literally.
Fascinating. All this time the camel thing always felt so weird to me. Now it all makes sense. Great video. Keep it up 👍
All the thumbs up I've ever given to your videos have been well deserved. Thanks for the videos!
I am always excited for a Hochelaga Video! (I've been here for a while but changed my name.)

Excellent video. The owl hybrids made me think of the abductions in Nome Alaska and fallen angels.
The publishers "lost their book printing license quickly after"... they probably hung for that!
4:35 "That's disgusting. Moving on.." HAHAAA!!
Damn, I'm early so happy to have found this channel
Each line the narrator was speaking had once reaseqrch behind. And I really appreciat that !!!
I love your stuff! you should be proud my dude.
Good stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
7:26 I think the meaning of the message is "It's easier for the weak/poor" to enter the needle which means the hardest thing to do in life (Enter the kingdom of god) than the rich duds
Nice, every time you post a new video I get instantly hyped!
And this wrapps up all the videos in this channel. Binge watched through all of them while lying sick due to covid
7:27 That does at least make more sense, though the message is the same even with the camel
We could all listen to you saying “Biblical
Bloopers” all day.
‘Biblical bloopers’ is now my favourite thing ever
There's lots of them to go around.
Many of these works are collected within a small bookshoop in the middle of London
Great job as always my friend!
Thank You for this production!
If there is a future film adaptation of these books of the bible, they should put these typos in blooper-like credits scenes!
One of the most common mistakes made by scribes was caused by epistrophe, which is when consecutive lines end with the same set of words.
For example,
"And all nations compassed me about: *but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them* .
They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about: *but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them* ." - Psalm 118:10-11
The monk copied the first instance of the words *but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them* . Then when he looked back at the original text, his gaze happened to fall on the _second_ instance of the same words. He thought that that was what he'd just copied, so he then started copying the next line, and left out a line without realising.
Is it also true that "Virgin Mary" was also a mistranslation of some old (perhaps Hebrew or Aramaic) word for "Young woman Mary"?
I think it's supposed to mean she's pure like since being a virgin is told to be like that, but I really don't know.
I heard that 'a virgin' meant more something like 'an independent woman'. Sadly I can't remember where I heard that. Time for some research!
@@lalduhawma726 Not really what I was asking about, but sure
Just found this channel and Holy fuck is this some great content love the style, I can listen while at work or just sit and watch, keep it up, this channel will blow up more for sure.
He said bible bloopers and I though “okay cool” and then he said “and some that may still be left in” and I instantly thought “Ooouu this is gonna be really interesting!”
Interesting how such a weird incident can be present in two different traditions.
the dude flat out "discharges" in front of God and angels, i have nothing but respect for him
I've heard God's name yelled out so many times during a discharge. I don't think it's a typo and it's just a homie being real
