Hi from Sweden! I'm a big fan of different kinds of folk, I feel like this/these genre/s gives feelings and thoughts room to breathe where pop (which I also love) makes things palatable and enjoyable in a way that tries to convince you with sugar - gets you straight to the point but more rarely stays with you like an aftertaste (with some exceptions). I really like this album though. Kara Jackson is a poet (literally famous for being one too, not just as a musician) and I enjoy the folk being played with some country, blues and even bits of soul and gospel. I especially like the title track. Thanks for your reaction and analysis, I come back to your videos for your expansive taste and enjoyment and your good analysis of the music :)
Ayeeee Sweden let’s goooo 🔥💪🏽 & yess she def is a poet she has such a way with her words I love it ! I can’t wait to hear her future albums as well! And I appreciate you so much this what I do it for fr 💪🏽🫡
I'm really thankful you gave this a shot even though it's outside your wheelhouse. She has a way of making you wait for every line with bated breath. After watching this and seeing what clicked and what didn't for you, I agree she has an even better one in her once she tightens her songs up - she's only 25 and this is her debut album, which is so fucking nuts.
I will say that this is a pretty difficult jumping off point for folk, as the writing is rather freeform and constantly moves forward, but it's a very folk album. For an easier starting point for a new listener of the genre, these are some albums that I highly recommend: Joni Mitchell - _Blue_ Benjamin Clementine - _At Least For Now_ Fleet Foxes - _Helplessness Blues_ Fiona Apple - _The Idler Wheel..._ Nick Drake - _Pink Moon_
