Been here since Is This It from your car and I’ve waiting for this, great album. You should listen to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins you’d love it and it’s Halloween season 🎃
i’m really glad you did this album. Fake plastic trees is my favourite song ever and it’s so nice seeing someone talk so lovely about it ☺️ Thank you for making these videos!!
Many people and charts rank this album extremely highly. When it came out in the 90s, to me, I don't think I'd heard anything this good before. It gets overlooked because it lacks the instrumental variety of their most acclaimed albums. It's a guitar album. To me that doesn't make it any weaker than any of the others. The soundscape, depth, atmosphere, (exquisite) melodies, dynamics, lyrics, rawness, and intense emotional communication are all top tier, and show the brilliance of Radiohead. (You could even say the fact that they can reach these heights with - basically - guitars only is even more impressive.) These songs express something deep about what it is to be human in a way the others albums don't. In a way their albums are a journey from human (mental / emotional) sickness (here) to outright dehumanization & alienation via technology and exploitation (OKC / KA / A / HTTF) and total loss (AMSP.) Finally, I've come to accept Bones is a great song but unfortunately it suffers from following FPT. For Blackstar, you might try Gillian Welch's cover to see if it opens up the song for you. You're a beautiful man. Keep shining.
I think The Bends on the song refers to how hugely popular the band got so early in their career because of Creep, and they rose to the top so fast, hence The Bends. Obviously Thom wasn't handling it very well and all of a sudden they didn't know who their real friends were anymore.
I think everybody does. The Bends gave Radiohead a strong basis to become different and distinct (Pablo Honey may sound like grunge - but The Bends sound only like Radiohead). It's not popular in the US though (the least sold album of the band iirc).
Great review bruh I have always felt The Bends is a personal introspective view of self where O.K Computer is more of an outlook on the world, my top 3 albums match yours with 2 & 3 changing places periodically
You can see the seeds of OK Computer in songs like Nice Dream, Planet Telex, and Street Spirit. It's not easy to make an album with so many really well written and played songs like The Bends and some people still prefer their more "rock" stage. Personally I like all their albums other than their first one, and there's still a couple of really good songs besides Creep, like You and Blowout to name a couple.
When this album came out instantly, you knew from Pablo honey this band had elevated beyond expectation. A truly great album but it got eclipsed by O.K. Computer because nobody in their right mind would’ve thought they’d of jumped so high from this album to that. That’s why this album gets overlooked. In 1995 they were already Kings. Nobody knew they’d become our generations Pink Floyd
Listening to The Bends and then Moon Shaped Pool next will be very interesting. Big musical journey between those albums. Both great albums with strong songs, but very different production approaches. They feel like the bookends of Radiohead's career to me. The Bends has grown on me over the years. I'm old enough to have been about when it came out. Didn't grab me at the time, but OK Computer blew me away and I went back to this later. Don't sleep on the 'King Of Limbs' album by the way, the last 4 tracks are some of their best work IMHO. And the 'extra' tracks of The Daily Mail and Staircase are bangers. Don't listen to the haters!
man I cannot believe how much knowledge and diving timing you stay dropping in these vids. I been really lookin for more signs to tap outta socials and here you are with the wisdom and motivation to get off the gram at 30:30... much love Jakar❤
Three things 1. Enjoyed your reaction as always - shame on you for delaying so long with more Radiohead😉 2. The Bends will always be the one I love the most because it was my first and bought on the week of its release- I love the guitars layering 3. Don’t skip any of the albums - all of them have excellent songs on them
The Bends is like that really good album that you make right before your magnum opus. It's fantastic, but will never be a cultural touchtone in the same way that your 'masterpiece.' It's Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights, or Death Cab's Photo Album.
Imo, common sense in favour of the most vulnerable is the answer not, per se, common sense because the common sense they usually talk about is that which aims to begin from the average, the most common. Enjoyed your video.
I am not sure where you heard this isn't essential Radiohead. My top three are OK Computer, as my clear #1, then The Bends and In Rainbows, and I couldn't tell which is my favorite of the two. If this and OK Computer are your favorites, you most definitely should check out the My Iron Lung single. It's like a perfect blend of The Bends twisting into OK computer. It's My Iron Lung, 6 new tracks and acoustic version of Creep. It's nearly 30 minutes, and it's a transitional auditory experience between two masterpiece albums.
since you've listened to Jeff Buckley's "Grace", a fun little fact about "Fake Plastic Trees" is that Thom Yorke was so inspired by Jeff after seeing one of his performances that he got the confidence to also sing in falsetto - he'd been sitting on that song for a long time not knowing what to do with it until he saw Jeff sing live. 🥹 also my favorite Radiohead album is In Rainbows followed very closely by The Bends!
That's not a hot take at all, The Bends are awesome!!! People say that kid A is their masterpiece, but i would say Ok Computer and the bends actually, like you. My Favourite Tracks(from the most to the least): My iron Lung, Just, Fake plastic Trees, The bends The Least favourite truck: Nice Dream ( But that's still a good song)
yo you should listen to ants from up there by black country new road, one of my favorite albums of all time it would be cool to see ur perspective on it
kinda unrelated, but once you finish ariana grande’s discography / main 7 albums, you should listen to “ k, bye for now swt live” they include songs from ariana’s swt world tour, and have whistle notes ( and in my opinion ) some are better versions of some of the songs that she performed.
Been here since Is This It from your car and I’ve waiting for this, great album. You should listen to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins you’d love it and it’s Halloween season 🎃
Also just wanted to say My Iron Lung was written about the band’s hatred for the popularity of creep.
Please Siamese Dream is my all time favourite album.

I LOVE this album and consider it ESSENTIAL in their catalogue.

My second favourite Radiohead album. Next i suggest Hail to the Thief (very underrated alum) or amnesiac (similar album to Kid A I think)
Thank you for this. Radiohead is amazing.. you can feel emotions of certain songs... like it speaks to your soul.
Fascinating: I’ve listened to this great album a thousand times, yet hearing another’s feel and view of it was enlightening.
Thanks, good job!

Yeah Moon Shaped Pool next
Still my favorite production on a Radiohead album. Its just sounds so good.
The track sulk is about the Hungerford Massacre and the line "just like your dad" was originally "just shoot your gun"
Great job!
love the edits lmao

bulletproof has gotta be the best song off the bends in my opinion, such an amazing and powerful track.
Brilliant reaction, taking stock of each track 👌
the bends is very essential in radiohead discography
@@azorahai9356 I can def see why!

The Bends, Ok Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows. Those are their 4 essential albums. Any other opinion is invalid.
