Undisputed 3 is by far the best MMA game. The fact so much work will have to be done to the next ea ufc game to even be a patch on that masterpiece is ridiculous.

I hold ufc undisputed 2009 dear to my heart. It’s legit what made me a fan of mma. It was 2011 I was in my early teens and I had just got an Xbox 360 and I didn’t really have any games for it so I downloaded the ufc undisputed 2009 demo and it only let me play as chuck Liddell or shogun rua and I must’ve played it for hours. One afternoon I got bored of playing it and I decided to look up chuck Liddell on TH-cam and I ended up watching all of his fights, which introduced me to a bunch of older fighters too. I’ve been an huge ufc/mma fan ever since.
Very similar experience. Used to watch it sometimes on spike but didn’t really know any names. Downloaded the demo and loved it and got my parents to get it for me. Been a mma fan ever since!
Same undisputed 2010 with Brock on cover got me into mma then undisputed 3 came and it was sealed superfan for life

I remember playing the demo over and over and just being blown away seeing cuts open up under the eyes or the bruised ribs showing. It was amazing, Undisputed 3 took it to a new level that EA has yet to touch

Facts ! My dad had it way back and then I had it on PSP. They made a once in a lifetime game that will sit in every UFC/MMA fans heart.
I am VERY passionate about this one. EA has almost ruined UFC. The next game will probably be cut and paste. I hate to see whats happening to UFC games
EA was the pinnacle of gaming when was I growing up. But the past 10-15 years they stopped caring about creating good games and have become consumed with greed destroying several franchises in the prosses. This has become too common in the gaming industry in general.

@Fabi_87 2005 was the absolute peak of sports games. 2006 was the beginning of the fall of EA. NFL 2K5 was so good that EA said "well since we can't top that, we will just beat them by canceling them"

Undisputed 3 is still my favorite UFC game. Me and my friends would have tons of tournaments. At first I would win because I actually followed ufc and knew who the best fighters were so I would pick them but once my friends learned who to pick I had to practice for days in order to get better with the submissions lol
I remember being a junior in high school when undisputed 2009 came out. I picked it up immediately and had like 15 guys from school piled in my living room going crazy over this game. We all were kinda interested in the ufc but the game is what really turned us into fans
Honestly crazy how this channel used to be a top 10 list channel which was and still is great, but the evaluation of the content as of late is so good, you could say its undisputed 😂😂

What made the UFC Undisputed and EA MMA games so special was the fact that team working on them cared just as much about the product as us. Now, The biggest problem with the current EA games and I mean it respectfully, those devs either don’t have a passion for MMA or their hands are being tied to the point where they can’t fix anything
Undisputed 2009 is probably my most played game ever. It was so far ahead of any MMA game we’d gotten up to that point. A true forgotten masterpiece.
Huge W getting Martial into this one. Also, Bellator, Rizin and PFL should team up and get a game for themselves. Imagine a game where you can fight in 3 different organizations and do cross promotion.
Literally was ea mma if you really want a game like that. Had strikeforce, dream, and some bellator guys.
I like the concept of it in the modern era but it would still probably tank in terms of sales. These other mma promotions don't have the same type of star power on their rosters. They'd have to capitalize on retired fighters no longer under contract with the UFC if it were to gain even a slight attraction. As for their current roster star power, they have Francis Ngannou, AJ McKee, Pitbull, MVP. Fedor and Aaron Pico. Beyond that, there really isn't much hype for any cross promotion video game that could become successful. It might help them if they bring legends of the sport into the game and have them in their prime form for the video game, but it'd still be a risky investment for a video game.

EA MMA is basically what OP described, it already exists, and as explained in the video, it did very poorly in terms of sales and they actually managed to grab many star fighters for the games roster.
Unfortunately, the UFC brand is what sells, even in the gaming world. Bellator does have a video game that came out back on the xbox 360 era but it was pretty terrible for an mma game and flew under the radar entirely.

Honestly main differences I see between the Undisputed and EA series comes down to the feel of movement and the abysmal grappling system in the EA games. I much prefer the more mashy style of Undisputed and actually making inputs to counter each others grappling. Made the grappling actually feel like a struggle for positioning and far less flow chart based.

@@Wickedtingzz EA MMA had a couple good things going for it but also a ton of stupid gameplay decisions, like the awful parrying system, and oh God, the hideous ice skating animation when you'd throw a slightly out of range strike.
I was obsessed with the event mode. I used to try and follow rankings and champions through sim. Would love to see a focus on booking/management with the franchise.
They need to make a Dana White mode where you can take control the UFC Universe, like NBA franchise or WWE Universal mode.

I’m hoping that UFC 5 is made by developers who aren’t just making a cash grab but are actual fans. I’ve believed UFC could be as great as 2k games if only they would put the effort in.
Edit: To clarify, I’m not saying 2k is good, I just meant the standard of 2k games and their popularity is higher than what UFC’s EA games are currently.

I believe UFC games are still held hostage under contract with EA so unfortunately what you are describing is an impossibility unless somebody else, like a smaller, better studio makes maybe an unlicensed MMA game, kind of like how that boxing game is. That boxing game is licensed though it has all the famous boxers in the world, it used to be called E-Sports Boxing Club but they changed the name now to just Undisputed. God knows if that game will ever fully release, but when it does it definitely will be a game that you can see is made with some passion, very little of which can be seen in any of the EA UFC games.

EA is already working on EA UFC 5 although early development I think. I do believe they are fans , but it's EA and UFC do probably not many creative opportunities for them.

My dad worked at EA and later THQ, and I have to say what a fucking gorgeous video. Brian Farrell can suck me dry. THQ got shafted HARD, and the control system change between EA and THQ is something I can't get over to this day. Only complaint is I think you did Danny Bilson a bit dirty, don't think that the shots at him were justified in the slightest. Seeing the Saints Row booth from E3 brings back such good memories of days off where my dad let me play hookey to see what was up next in gaming. Thanks for the incredible video guys.

I've said it before and I'll say it again UFC undisputed 3 was the greatest MMA game of all time. You could fight in the UFC and in pride and you could customize so much about your fighter, the shorts, the banners, and so much more. Miss it constantly and wish I had never gotten rid of my Xbox 360 so I could still play it.
You can now play it with an emulator called rpcs3 on your PC and everything works. The career mode only crashes on the punching bag mini game, so you have to either do auto training on it, or quit the training before the time elapses. Other than that, my career mode is currently 30-0 with Cro Cop, having recently won the Pride GP and have defended my UFC title 9 times :D
If you want to play with current day fighters there is a mod called UFC Undisputed Forever that lets you install the current UFC roster to your game.
The change for the ufc was Chuck Liddell there’s basically a before and after as far as them being mainstream, I trained in boxing but was an early fan since my mom accidentally renting it when I was a kid thinking it was wrestling blockbuster times y’all.
Chuck Liddell and Blockbuster were my entrance to MMA too! I was with a friend and we rented Chuck vs Tito and fell in love with the sport.

I use to play EA MMA on my old PS3. And still one of my favorite games
I had gotten undisputed 3 a couple months ago cause i missed out on the hype(im only 18) i love the grappling in that game much more than ea ufc 4, it just feels so technical and natural, not to mention the pride mode with the soccer kicks and stomps, god i wish i was born earlier to have played it in its prime!
You should grab EA MMA too. That game was solid.

awesome video!! I personally love Undisputed 3 and think it's the best MMA game ever made. I've played/own UFC 2 and 3 made by EA and idk just doesn't feel the same. And I love the history lesson type videos that combine in this instance, video games and MMA/UFC. It'll be interesting going forward with the UFC/WWE merger into the larger company if anything changes as far as the UFC/WWE game development.
Or you can say competition made the games better and once that went away they stop caring about making a good game because its the only mma game
@@cucch13 perhaps but at the time UFC Undisputed 3 was released, it was the only MMA game released that year also. THQ were the only ones making MMA/UFC games for those few years minus the one off EA game they referenced in the video. THQ/Yuke's just made a better product

Really well researched and put together video. It was nice to go back and learn new things about one of my favorite franchises.
UFC 3 is the last MMA game I really got addicted to. I know the newer ones look and play better but the older games felt more immersing somehow. Oh and the Pride sections were awsome.

Fantastic review of past MMA games, I grew up on wrestling games but once I discovered the UFC my mind was blown I remember going to blockbuster video to go rent the playstation version of UFC, but wasn’t till Undisputed playing online was the opportunity to meet other UFC fans and like-minded individuals
This is a perfect video to show you EA can make good games if they have competition but when they don’t it’s pointless. With that being said we need more football games

EA MMA is criminally underrated by the community. I just picked it up about a month ago and have played it like crazy since. The ability to choose between organizations makes you feel like a real fighter, and having to work your way up from crappy regional promotions to a major one feels so fulfilling. EA UFC doesnt hold a candle to the old game

My dad owned Undisputed 2 (2010) and it introduced me into the sport and I fell in love, that UFC is my era & I am still getting caught up with the sport till this day

EA is lying through their teeth when their developer says they didn't blow off UFC. If not, why didn't they reach out to UFC when they DID decide to begin their MMA game? it's because they burned that bridge, until EA and UFC decided to sabatoge THQ.
Undisputed 3 is the best MMA game ever made! I wish thq didn't go out of business, they would have been a billionaire by now, they would have made an amazing MMA game to date.

THQ arguably was the better choice at the time.
THQ did amazing work with both WWE and UFC. Their games were simple enough to play but had depth for anyone who wanted it. Their problem has been the same time and time again. They create an awesome product that the fans love. Then someone like Take Two or E. A come along and completely outbid them. Those companies also get a long contract for that money and then the sport is locked into their crappy games. The truth of the matter is, if people just stopped buying their games for two years they would scrap them. THQ should make a Vanilla MMA and wrestling game with the ability to mod it as much as you like. This would destroy E.A and Take Twos hold on the sports market.
Fighters Uncaged for the Xbox 360 with Kinect circa 2010 was the greatest MMA game ever made.

I dunno.. anytime i hear somebody mention Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar fight as a supporting reason for their counter argument i always raise an eyebrow.
True story, I was in the Marines in 2005. Walked into my buddies barracks room. They were glued to this fighter reality show. I stood there for a few and said I'll catch yall later. Fast forward a few weeks later, they were about 7 deep in one barracks room watching Forrest VS Bonnar about to walk into thr cage for their finale. I stayed and watched it and fell in live with MMA since the horn rung to end that fight. Then, the UFC giving Bonnar the contract despite the loss was epic. In hindsight, there were better fights, but there was no better way for me to get into the sport!
When people compare both games it's really simple, undisputed was made by fans who support martial arts and listened to it's community who improved upon their game every release, EA is made by money hungry greed's who make little changes to its core game other than graphics and roster and plaster popular fighters on its cover to make a quick buck, undisputed 3 is still the best mixed martial arts game we've seen and that's saying a lot considering its been a decade since it's release
EA taking over the UFC license is literally why I left gaming in the PS3 era. I still play Undisputed 3 allllllllllllll the time and I am still finding animations I've never seen before. I saw the EA UFC Demo on PS4, tried it at a friend's house and set down the controller within 5 minutes. It was horrible. Clunky animations, slow response time for striking and the sense of excitement seemed to be missing entirely.

I must have put 10 hours into the UFC undisputed demo in 2009. It was so far beyond what there had already been for MMA games that there was no comparison. I don't think I have ever anticipated a game release that much before.
Yup, I remember those days.......Shogun and Liddell. Used them so much in that demo and I felt like I had them mastered.

@vanjatomic723 Even though it's hard to go back and play it now, its so simplistic and bare bones, it was absolutely cutting edge back in 09. I remember my first kid was born in June of 09 and Undisputed came out like a few weeks before that. Since I was pretty much at the house every second when I was off work, I played the hell out of it. Played through the career and then jumped online and I had so much fun playing it. Convinced about 6 or 7 of my coworkers to get it so I pretty much always had someone to play against. We would fight for hours, talking trash back and forth on our mics and then the next day at work we would talk even more trash, always eager to jump online soon as we left work trying to keep the rivalry going. I really miss those days.......Undisputed 2009 and Modern Warfare 2. Now I rarely play anything online
I have played just about every MMA game and this is BY FAR the best MMA game ever made. I have like 5 XBOX profiles full of CAFs just for this game. I'm a huge MMA game and create a fighter fan. I have 16 PS2 memory cards full of CAFs just for the Pride FC game. It was a sad day for me when THQ went under.
These exclusive interviews set you apart from the other channels. People have no clue about the coordination and prep that goes into something like that. Incredible how you tracked down top game devs from the '08 era who had exclusive inside knowledge on this niche topic.

My biggest problem with ALL the ufc games is the lack of options in create a fighter/career mode. They barely have any options for tattoos, hair styles ect. It drives me crazy theres very limited options for those things an you can only add 100 tattoos to a fighter which may sound like a lot but if you are like me an love tattoos an want to cover them in nice realistic tattoos you are just sol basically because that hundred gets filled up very fast an the few tattoo options they have gets old very very fast. Ive been begging them to fix this for YEARS. However I do love how in the newest games you have complete freedom of the size/placement of the tattoos unlike past games where they made you choose from pre selected sizes and spots on the body. That shit was so stupid so i am glad they fixed that but they gotta fix this issue i just stated. If they did that itd be a perfect game for me. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS EA!!

I was not aware of this ongoing development. A significant amount of effort and time has been invested in creating this content! EA Sports MMA held a special place in my heart on the Xbox 360. It was the only game I decided to keep even after getting rid of my Xbox. It still sits on my shelf, catching my eye every day. Another classic that deserves a remake is Def Jam: Fight for NY. I would absolutely love to see both of these games revived.

UFC 2 is actually not bad, the striking is much smoother than all the Ea UFC games and the grappling isn't broken, the rest are pure garbage smh. But undisputed 3 is without a doubt still the greatest.
Great piece. Respect to Mac and MartialMind for bringing a fan's point of view, and good on you guys for getting those interviews with EA. This added a lot of clarity. Undisputed 3 PRIDE Ed. is my personal favorite combat sports game of all time, and I wish EA would take more of a focus to the single-player experience, or add a Online World Championship mode where you develop your created fighter by earning attributes online. They did such a good job with the Fight Night series, so they definitely have that capability in them.

As much as I loved the THQ UFC games THQ did their downfall to themselves. When you base your entire business on mediocre licensed games to make quick bucks those shortcuts will catch up. Had they only made that maybe 40-60% of their model and pushed original a good quality games they’d still be there. Instead they were a lightweight version of EA and it kept them in the middle until the HK game culture changed. They were behind the times for 10 years. It’s their fault.
