Of course, the cans that were Big Nog and Cro Cop who he beat in their prime and when they were both the top ranked HW in the world and who both came to the UFC completely washed and Big Nog still won a HW title in the UFC while completely washed years after Fedor handled him with ease when Fedor was still clearly a much better fighter with far more left than Big Nog. You can't fault Dan Severn, or anyone from his generation, for fighting cans! There wasn't a whole lot of experience fighters to begin with. They got paid like shit so of course they're going to take the path of least resistance to get a paycheck. A lot of the fighters weren't trying to pad their recrds by fighting so often. They were padding their pockets. And back then you could possibly get a shot at the ufc belt just for going on a 5 or so fight winning streak in the regional circuit.
Severn should have been #1. He was a machine. He left the UFC and crushed cans for money for over a decade afterward. Almost 2 decades. IMO. No one has done it better.
Khabib fought a guy who was 0-2 when he was 11-0. For his next fight he faced a formidable 1-1... followed by a 4-3, and while on a 14 fight win streak he faced a guy who was making his professional debut, only the toughest competition for Khabib

I feel like noone in this comment section understands what a can crusher is. - Bo Nickal is literally 5-0 and 3 fights into his UFC career. He is probably fighting ABOVE the level you should expect for his experience - Just because Khabib was flawless against elite competition for the last few fights of his career doesn't mean he wasn't crushing cans for the first 15. (F for the dude who made his MMA debut against 14-0 Khabib) Think of it like this: If MVP goes on to KO Leon Edwards, Islam and Izzy to become the first Triple UFC champion, is he still a can crusher? IMO yes because of the first 20 opponents on his records, which is why Dan Severn is on this list and still a legend.
Bo nickal gets crushed by cans, what are you talking about? Khabib is your dady because he crushed cans and good fighters alike and the only cans khabib crushed were justin gaethji and dustin parior who are still ranked in the top 5 in lightweight which is a shame
If miguel angel Torres is on it. Khabib should as well. Problem with miguel, he was on his way out after benavidez fight. Same thing as Alvarez. He fought everywhere and was successful and when the ufc finally signed him, he was out of his prime and had ton of miles on his face and brain

@Bayliun more than half of his 29 opponents were either fighting in mma for the first time or had more losses than wins or 0 wins with multiple losses khabib had 5 good fights at the most and I wouldn't even go that far cuz beating on old legends who can't wrestle still isn't a good win lol

I think "can" should also apply to former MMA fighters who are well past their prime, have had several knockout losses (over 5), or have had major surgeries that should disqualify or dissuade them from competing on a professional level. Maybe "can" isn't the right word, but this list had me thinking of Jake Paul and his "meteoric rise to fame" off the backs of former MMA stars who were definitely not 100% or even 80% of their prime level. Of course, it's blurring lines between boxing and MMA, but Jake should honestly be called a can crusher for what he's doing.
Khabib and Islam are great examples. Khabib had like 3 real fights and got his belt vs someone ranked 17 and fighting on one day's notice. His legacy could have been great if he didnt run away. Also Islam - if you tought Khabib had an easy run - Islams first 5 fight were versus people that had like 50-100 losses and 0 wins lmao. one was blind and without legs lmao. A famous blind Dagestani fighter Slobodan Figuridof Aleksejević - and he still almost won. (THIS IS A JOKE ABOUT HOW HIS OPPONENTS COULD BE HANDICAPPED - THE LEVEL OF OPPOSITION WOULD BE THE SAME)

I think you're mistaking the man in the thumbnail. That's not Don Frye, it's Dan Severn. If you look at Frye's record, you'd see that he wouldn't be fighting cans, especially considering the time he competed in. Granted, there are a few fighters that he fought whilst on the come-up that were lame - people with 7 wins, 20 losses, or 20 wins and 20 losses, stuff like that. However, considering the fact that this was earlier on in his career (from what's shown, at least), it doesn't seem that bad, especially not compared to certain others out there.

Torres was just good at a lower weightclass before that was really a thing. It's not like there was a place he could go when he was starting out to fight the top bantamweights, cause those places didn't exist before WEC. His choices really were either crush cans on the regional scene or not fight at all. There really just wasn't an option of a place to "step up" at smaller weight classes until Zuffa bought WEC in 2006.
A lot of Fulton's shows were put on by Fulton himself, in a state without an athletic commission, basically so he could pad his record and get paid to go on trips around the world by promotions wanting to promote a fight involving the man with the most fights in MMA. Like Severn, he WAS a legitimate fighter, though of course not as good as prime Severn, but he was a solid regional journeyman who beat some unquestionably legit dudes in legit promotions. But much like Severn in his later years he loved cans and worked fights. I'm pretty sure the two of them fought between 3 and 5 times. Dan also ran a promotion with a lot of works if I recall.
People mentioning khabib dont seem to be aware that in russia, or that region in general, combat sambo, which is almost identical to mma, doesnt count towards ur mma record, so the "cans" khabib was fighting in the regional scene were fairly established in combat sambo and were transitioning to mma, so their records dont tell the fill story

Just say you just started watching and don’t know the sport.

Bobby Lashley Definitely should be on the list. A 15-2 record but almost every opponent had a losing record or it was their first fights. They wanted another Brock Lesner, so gave him a bunch of cans to beat to make him look impressive.
Hager too
And he still didn't do anything noteworthy in MMA
That’s a fair point, but he started his career when he was like 32 years old after many years as a pro wrestler. You can’t really expect him to face killers even though he has a pretty decent amateur wrestling background. I respect him for giving mma a chance. At least he wasn’t as delusional as CM Punk to think he could be a threat in the UFC😂

Crazy how Khabib didn't make the list at all.

Because he's not even the biggest.

@@booognishFanboy found
@@carphucker2973 Fun fact: He's been retired for years, you can take his johnson outta your mouth. Another fun fact (maybe not for you): His first 20 or so non-UFC fights *were* against cans.

Did some counting for y'all comparing Khabib with Miguel Torres
Khabib fought 13 times in the UFC and dominated every time. His 16 pre-UFC fights (not counting the 28-22 anomaly here in Arymarcel Santos, his last fight before UFC), opponent combined record is 37- 24 with 4 fighters who had no wins.
Miguel Torres first 19 fights before he lost his first fight combined opponent record is 24-10 with 13 fighters who had no wins.
Yeah, most of khabib's opponents before ufc were bums. Definitely a padded record but still great.
Not saying you're wrong, but I wouldn't say he "dominated" in his fight with Tibau. Still, one relatively close fight shouldn't change anything you said. Thanks for the info!
@@loubloom1941 to be fair. they have to fight the bums to get to the top and for him it was in russia so he was not really on the ufc radar for a while. so you cant give him to much shit. cause either way he mauled everyone in the ufc. he never had his own blood spilled in the ufc if i remember correctly.

What fight at 11:46?
Haven't watched yet, but Rousey better be on here
That Douglas Lima run was phenomenal 👏
What about Chris Cyborg? She is the Queen of crushing cans to pad her record.
Would be really interesting to do a video on the best guys with losing records (in tier 1/2 promotions at least).
Severn should have been #1. He was a machine. He left the UFC and crushed cans for money for over a decade afterward. Almost 2 decades.
IMO. No one has done it better.
13-97?!
No… That can’t be right…
I mean that guy would be a professional punching bag if that’s true. That’s nuts.
6-53?!
Who are these people?
Khabib fought a guy who was 0-2 when he was 11-0. For his next fight he faced a formidable 1-1... followed by a 4-3, and while on a 14 fight win streak he faced a guy who was making his professional debut, only the toughest competition for Khabib
Yeah and then he went undefeated in the UFC fighting the best in the world.

Just sayin hes 1 year in mma and every Single opponnent had a way better record than him
I feel like noone in this comment section understands what a can crusher is.
- Bo Nickal is literally 5-0 and 3 fights into his UFC career. He is probably fighting ABOVE the level you should expect for his experience
- Just because Khabib was flawless against elite competition for the last few fights of his career doesn't mean he wasn't crushing cans for the first 15. (F for the dude who made his MMA debut against 14-0 Khabib)
Think of it like this: If MVP goes on to KO Leon Edwards, Islam and Izzy to become the first Triple UFC champion, is he still a can crusher?

Miguel literally fought 18 people who have no MMA record at all and lost to the big guys. All khabibs have records and he still beat the best, I don't see the logic?

First of all he fought Al who was on a 5 fight winstreak with a win over Jorge masvidal after the khabib loss he beat Kevin lee, who tony got an interim belt for beating him, second the only reason he fought Al was cause tony pulled out and max couldn’t make the weight.

Khabib
