    Just a quick comparison video to demonstrate the difference in ability off road based on the different stages of modifications.
    Obviously your choice in mods will be determined by how you intend to use your vehicle, but hopefully this is an interesting comparison for you regardless.
    Huge Thankyou to Daylan and Jacinta (blue Jimny), Jen (Jungle Green), Sarah and Josh (other white Jimny) for giving up their time to make this video 😊

    The main modifications I did to mine was to lift it 15mm with beefier King Springs, put Koni absorbers and bigger 215/80/R15 tyres (around 3cm more clearance!). I find it super capable off road, to be honest, and still very good on the road (or as good as a Jimny can be). That said, I use it to go to places, not rock crawling or anything like that 😊

    it would be interesting to see the same cars compared for on road sealed road cornering and breaking. Given that most cars spend more time on made roads and in heavy traffic the unmodified original Suzuki Jimny may ultimately prove to be the most versatile and best all rounder. It performed very well.
    The option to use lockers is an obvious advantage, that has little effect on the car when disengaged.
    Do the All Terrain off road tyres give the same good road holding on bitumen at speed as the stock standard tyres? Does increasing the tyre size increase stress on the drive system, increasing break downs down the track? Does the 2" (5 cm) lift increase the danger of rolling the car when turning at speed? Can the larger All Terrain tyres be fitted without a lift kit?
    This was one of the best, most objective video comparisons demonstrating the advantages in off road modifications for off road driving I have ever seen. Well done! Thank you all for sharing. 👍

    • @hari4406
      @hari4406 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Not much difference to average driver. Unless you are pushing the very last out during cornering, like in a race track like a race car driver, you are in no risk. 5cm isn't significant at all for normal drivers, who are not driving on the very edge of the capabilities of the car. Normal drivers perhaps maxes out at around 50 to 70 percent of its capability.

    Maaate, many, many thanks to you and your friends for taking the time and effort to put this together. I actually have a little 78’ Steyr-Haflinger (Austrian for ‘Mountain Pony’) LWB in the shed. It is a ‘Classic’ and one of the smallest, lightest most capable 4wd ever built. 460 cc, 3 x diff locks, portal axles, tubular chassis, 5 Spd (deep reduction) manual, etc, etc… but that’s all another story, from another era. Point being- I don’t need any convincing on the true value of front/rear lockers & deep reduction. My next vehicle will probably be my last… I’d love a lwb Jimny… You know, I’m quite sure…. how valuable that extra little bit of real-estate space will be… Dream On- Right?…😮‍💨Sigh!… Anyway… I’m thinking, at this stage… order the new ‘Lite’ in August- complete with pre-registering Ironman GVM upgrade, tyres and rims… again those extra few kg of load capacity are worth their weight in ‘Gold’ - Eh? Possibly, the HKS Blower ( or similar… opinions?) to balance out the extra load… (I’m chasing real world Torque- not Speed), And then build her up, as we go…. Given the current state of vehicle supply/pricing here… and the insatiable local appetite for off-road adventure vehicles… I’m thinking I can tinker for a year or two, and when/if the LWB graces our shores- well I’ve got a whole slew of boltable upgrade options ready to go.
    Hmmmmm, I’ve almost convinced myself; this could work. Thought I’d think out loud and see what others reckon 🤔.

    Loved the quick comparison, great condensed info on the differences and what each upgrade brings. Feels like you're on to something great here, like an intro to a more in-depth series... maybe? wink, wink, ha!
    As constructive criticism, I have a few suggestions that you probably already know or thought of, but I think would greatly complement the effort behind making such an interesting video like this:
    - More details on the builds, such as costs, difficulty for installation (DIY ok, or need proffessional installation due to X reason, etc), and some other finer details about the different setups (how different are these to those tires/lift kits/lockers/other misc equipment, fitted to each Jimny, etc, and how they affect their performance).
    - About the footage, one or two gopros under the chassis on each run, as they go through some of these obstacles to see really in detail how these differences are seen in the suspension and chassis work.
    - Using the same driver to give a more direct comparison and just an idea
    - More diversity of problems or situations for the cars to solve.
    Either way, thanks for putting this up, super interesting!!

    Hi
    Had a few query before installing an air locker on my Jimny
    1) Does the fitment of an air locker affect the overall performance of the vehicle and fuel mileage
    2) Since air lockers are used only sparingly when situations warrant most of the time it is going to be an open differential hence does it affect the cornering performance on normal roads since the differential set up has changed and does that affect the drive quality on Tarmac when they are disengaged.
    3) Like what is shown in the video, the two tracks had sudden turns the first on the left and the second track had a turn to the right so since the locker was engaged prior to ascending the terrain do the axle and locker get damaged when you take that turn.

    One of the limits of the Suzuki Jimny is the fuel tank size.
    The UK is limiting the Jimny to a 2 seater version registered as a commercial vehicle. Could removing the rear seat enable a larger fuel tank to be fitted a give a larger, flat, one level cargo bay? Do the seats lay back enough to allow one to sleep rough in the car?
    All you'd need is a small car fridge for fresh food, a few dozen bottles of drinking water, a small winch and some max tracks, a shovel, and puncture/compressor emergency kit and one or two people could get to most places in Australia without fear of being stranded.

      Look at buying a ‘Long Ranger Fuel Tank’, it completely replaces the stock fuel tank underneath the car. It has a 80 L capacity and doesn’t sit any lower than the stock fuel tank. Hmmm I personally wouldn’t worry about a lift unless I was going to increase the tyre size, as that’s really the main benefit of a lift, but completely up to you of course 😊 Sometimes a good suspension upgrade is worth it purely for the better handling or if you’re getting roof racks for example or toeing a trailer, to allow the the extra weight.

    What is a locker

    • @TheLittleRig
      @TheLittleRig  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a diff lock which essentially locks the diffs together so that both wheels on the same axle will spin together no matter what. So when one side loses traction and stops while you wait for traction control to kick it, with a diff locker on the wheels won’t stop spinning regardless, so you always have tyres turning pushing you through the obstacle.
