    Tank with the hybrid system and independent motors for each wheel would be a beast off road. The one tested is far from as capable as the hybrid would be.
    Interesting that BYD has developed an off roading all electric full sized SUV with actual on the spot turning and crab walking capability. That car can ford over rivers with entire car bonnet submerged. Truly that car BYD Yangwang is another level of off roading SUV.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, but speculative. I'm yet to see anything like that and BYD certainly is WAY out of "value for money" cars that I research and focus on. Never say never though, if they reached out etc I'd be happy to take an honest look.

    Hey mate thanks for the review I also want a tank 300.... to me they look like an impressive 4x4....I currently drive a hilux.... I have also been a toyota man for about 20 years.... but im willing to give the tank a go for awhile as it's just impressive all round....

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep agree with you mate. I'm not sold on the hybrid part of it (and higher price tag than the petrol version would have), but still think it's a great value for money car - once it finally arrives in AU

    • @thatdudethatsezshiz7706
      @thatdudethatsezshiz7706 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Value Cars Australia.. For the exta bucks you get so much more.... front locker extra torque down low (hybrid) and there's extra options in the cab as well.... At this stage there only doing the hybrid version first here in Australia.... so both the lux and the ultra will be hybrid but there bringing the standard petrol variant later down the track.... the hybrid variant is available for test drive mid this month and im booked in 😁 Mind you I won't be buying on the day, im probably going to wait 6 months or so for 2 reasons... 1. I want to see if there's any major reports of faults from the first round arriving mid this month and 2 GWM are also bringing the shanhai cannon and tank 500 to Aussie land by the end of the year.... Im happy to take a look and a test drive of all of them before I make any rush decisions..... but googling all of them I like the tank 300 the most so far.... 👍😁🍻

    Just so you know, Tank 300 in Australia starts ate $46,690 on the road with 7 years unlimited kilometer warranty and set price servicing. Currently Tank Basic with "Diff Lock" is cheaper on the road than a 2022/2023 Jimny. Also Ultra Tank 300 with front and back diff locks is around $52,000 on the road with all the luxuriesa. I think your $55,000 base price is for the Electric Tank 300 Hybrid, which is more power than you need. Ive seen Tank at work and have been driving Jimny and Siuerras since 1986. My opinion is Suzukji gouged buyers and too late, people are walking away, because there is no copmparisonm between any Tank Model and the best jimny Model. Tank wins hands down. Ive been driving Jimny daily since 2009, just one car, before 2009 to 1985 I also had Jeep Turbo which I sold

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think Tank wins all-round too, but this was a fun comparison of the off-roading capabilities specifically. Obviously on utility, size, general use for the same-ish price tag Jimny is not even a competition.

    • @ricglass14
      @ricglass14 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ValueCarsAU yes, and remember Jimny should be under $25,000 msrp and selling for $45k for 2021 2022 models. We are not even in the same ball park with Suzuki gouging customers because of demand. When Tank gets known, Jimny will be back to under $25k but the 35 years plus owners like me (of many models of 4wds only) will remember when we wanted a new Jimny like me this year and sticker shock turned us away, Jimny is NOT worth the prices being asked and I thank GWM for introducing Tank as an alternative, because for me later this year "it is a no brainer". Tank hands down on paper and what I have seen on TH-cam, beats Suzuki by million miles, and I will NEVER buy another Jimny (present is 14 years old 118,000klms). I am only looking because an inheritance is "on the way" this year (millionaire sister died).
      One suggestion, why do you, not do a comparison with 3 door/5 door Deluxe Luxury Vitara 4wd and Tank $52k Ultra? Same price, same luxury but I bet very different off road testing. I am sold on Tank and your Review was the nail in Jimny's coffin. Like I said I was/am (when well) a Hard Core 4wd driver and Suzuki Sierra/Jimny owner since 1986, thats what Suzuki has lost for a bunch of random yuppies with pockets full of cash on a whim, Suzuki gouging customers like me

    As a 2013 Grand Vitara owner looking to upgragrade, the Jimney wasn't on my radar due to it's low power and towing specs. The Tank has more power and torque by far, is far superior in every way. It has twin lockers, Smarter off road 4x4 control and more refinement overall. It's a no brainer if I'm concerned... It's just a shame Suzuki decided to discontinue the Grand vitara with real off road capability. Now the Tank is the only option .. and it is by far superior! I ordered mine a few days ago... I'm both excited and sad at the same time. I'm excited to be getting a new vehicle and sad to be letting go of my 10 year old friend and companion.

      Perfectly appreciate the sentiment mate, but the times have moved on, better options on the market as you said yourself, and Tank 300 so far looks like an amazing value for money, especially if you're going to do some off-roading, not just city driving.

    Excellent review, sums up the pros and cons of off road versus day to day urban/rural driving very well. My personal choice from a logical point of view would be the Tank 300, from an emotional point of view the Jimny. However, I don't do a lot of off roading (but when I do I want a capable vehicle) and need my choice to be versatile and the Tank 300 (with All Terrain tyres) is confirmed as my top choice.

      @carson I think off-road capabilities are comparable, with Jimny "winning" only based on its size and lack of features, aka "raw potential". @wosam Wrangler is exorbitantly priced these days in Australia and I can't wait for Tank 300 to be available properly all over the place AND for them to introduce a petrol version (cheaper, hopefully) that would - perhaps? - tell Jeep to get off their high horse and get back to the old pricing strategy and baseline.

    Great video. As a user of a Cruiser 79 V8 for work I can say there is no situation where a Jimny should be considered for anything. There is only one consideration, safety, and the Jimny has none.
    I expect that the Tank will come with a full suite of safety features and actual design integrity. Now the Tank will not be a workhorse like the Cruiser but at least it won't actively try and kill you like the Suzuki or Mahindra for that matter.

    I'm surprised that you and/or the Russian reviewer say that the TC & electronic gizmos of the Jimny do not extract the vehicle from the crossed axles situation. I'm saying this because the basic AllGrip system on my Suzuki Ignis (2019) works very well and got me out of everything including axle crossing situations. And Ignis has the entry level AllGrip system, doesn't have a low range and I can't imagine that the most advanced AllGrip system on the Jimny is so weak. Maybe we were lost in translation a bit there 😊

    Used and ex-Demo Jimny’s are being sold above LIST price in Australia due to extreme demand.
    If you get on the waiting list with an honest dealer (and are willing to wait 6 months for your order) you can pick one up new for about $30k.
    Some dealers are abusing their customers by selling new pre-ordered cars as ex-demo so they can inflate the price, and advising their pre-order customers that their vehicle has been delayed.

    No, I don't agree at all. I've never had my Jimny overspeed on hill descent. You apply descent control THEN proceed down the hill. It applies the brakes as needed so as long as you have traction it will work. Speed is 5km/h in low range, and 10km/h in high range. It's useful for slippery slopes because the system can brake all four wheels independently. You still have normal braking as well. If you need to go slower than 5km/h for a difficult descent then you will still need to use your 4WD skills.
    The reviewer did not understand how the Jimny brake traction control (BTC) works, or he was deliberately making it look harder than it was. You have to be in low range. When the computer detects a wheel has no traction it applies the brakes to that wheel to send power to the wheel on the ground. You have to drive it differently, especially if you park it with a wheel off the ground. You said "turn ABS off" but I think you mean ESC - electronic stability control. ESC doesn't work in 4WL, and BTC doesn't work in 4WH. You can only turn ESC off in high range when going under 30km/h. Personally I would prefer a 4WD with diff locks since that is what I am used to (I had Detroit differential locks before this), but the Jimny BTC works perfectly for such a light vehicle.
    The Jimny does have soft suspension, it's the short wheel base (2.2m) that makes it a bit bouncy on rough roads. Again, it's about driving it differently for the terrain, if bouncing around like a mountain goat is not your thing.
    The Jimny is also just great around town. Manoeuvrable, with a turning circle of 9 meters and an overall length of 3.5 meters it can go anywhere and park anywhere. It's a lot of fun to drive in town as well. The only four wheeled vehicles I know of with a tighter turning circle are things like the Smart fortwo, and none of those are intended to go off road.
    Where the Jimny is not great is on the highway at speed, especially if the roads are not very good. It is limited on high speed bends so has to be driven carefully. The short wheel base makes it twitchy, but I find the steering very direct even though a lot of reviewers complain about the steering box set up. The gen 4 (2018 onwards) has big advantages over the gen 3 with the 1.5L engine and a useful 5th gear (manual). It's still a bit noisy but I find it comfortable enough for long journeys of three or four hours, probably much longer. Overtaking requires planning, but is perfectly possible. The manual is probably better on the highway because the 5th gear ratio is higher than the 4th gear on the automatic.
    Used car yards are buying up new Jimnys and then trying to sell them as new for up to $10,000 over the ticket price. The GLX is (should be) under $40,000 including on-road costs, and the GL lite is under $35,000. I'd recommend the GL lite (manual only) as the only thing missing that a serious off-roader might miss is the 12V utility socket in the rear luggage compartment, if you really want to put a camping fridge back there. I don't recommend that anyone pays the stupid prices the car yards are asking for these vehicles. Even ten year old gen 3 vehicles are selling for stupid prices and I don't see the value in that. With the state of the used car market you are much better off ordering from the Suzuki dealer and waiting the six months for it to be delivered. Pro tip - buy the white one. All of the Jimnys panels are painted white at the factory. If you want the kinetic yellow one you will pay extra and wait much longer for it to be painted. I actually really like my white Jimny with black trim. Hate grey, and I think I would have got tired of the kinetic yellow eventually, plus the black roof looks like it might get a bit hot in Australia.
    I'm really loving my Jimny. It's great fun on the beach or in the bush, and it's even fun blasting around town in it.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the generous write-up mate, I'm sure people more interested in Jimny would appreciate these insights. I still think Jimny (3 door model, at least) is a bit of a fun off-road TOY for adventuring mainly, and with some purposes to ride around town if you're single or a very young couple with a dog. I think Tank 300 will offer more value for money OVERALL, if we keep comparing (rather unfairly) to Jimny, as the passenger space and extras of comfort and luggage carrying capacity while offering same-ish 4x4 capabilities would definitely push it ahead of Jimny if someone was really considering one car vs. another.

    Great video. I appreciate the translation, never heard of the tank before, looks very nice car, kind of reminds the new bronco from the back. Just to note one thing, in the diagonal tests, it's true the jimny has no differential lock, but it does have traction control. The abs is not turned off. The traction control works through the ABS system but the ABS as an emergency breaking device is not really related, they just work on the same system) so to clarify the ABS is not turned off, it's the esp (which also works through the ABS system) that is turned off (either automatically in 4x4 low or manually by pressing a button in 4x4 high) BUT the traction control which emulate the differential lock is always on regardless. About the hill decent control, most people don't use 4x4 low and first gear, so it does decent too fast. I own a manual jimny, and using first gear in 4x4 low, it's going down slow enough for most cases. Thanks for the video, Keep them coming!

      I think the difference is going to be in the interior space and pricing. Jimny is great now as a 3 door for what it is - an expensive off-road adventures TOY. Tank 300 is a more multi-purpose 4x4 SUV. Jimny 4 door kinda takes a swing at the market of offering more space, BUT it's not quite there anyway, AND it's very expensive. I want to love Jimny but the price here (Indonesia) is a bit irrational. When it first come to Indonesia 2019-2020, the initial price was USD 22K, but in just two years the price is rose to 33K USD or more.

    Jimny is a known quantity and it is reflected in its resale values. Its really very expensive for what it is and that it is made in India and not Japan. Tank 300 although a bit odd looking seems like really great value but who knows how long the veneer will last. Rust being a big concern with GWM products.

      Thanks for commenting mate - well, in Russia they apply after-market anti-corrosion spray on pretty much any car, so that's taken care of and in Australia unless you live right by the sea it's probably not a concern either.

    • @ValueCarsAU

      Good question mate - they talk about it a lot. Short answer is - regardless of "sanctions" etc new cars find their way in, except the prices went way up because *SOME* suppliers can't trade with Russia directly, but need to go long way around - via UAE for example. Money always wins, and in this case - other than exorbitant prices - it's to general folks' benefit.

    Great video thanks I really enjoy your videos👍. Will be interesting to see how the 4 door Jimmny compares to tank 300 when the time comes. Another point is the reliability of all those electronic assist in Tank 300, I suppose time will tell. The South African market is anxiously awaiting the launch of Tank300 which is imminent, already GWM Haval are making a great impact on the SUV segment here. I think if GWM made a pickup version of Tank 300 it's may fair better in sales than the current P series.

    • @ValueCarsAU
      @ValueCarsAU  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would be interesting to see how Suzuki Jimny 4 door lands in Australian market as the car is too expensive to be taken as something more than a 4x4 toy, and while 4 door would be more convenient to ride in with a family, it's still rather small AND expensive. So unless you're a brand supporter, why buy it, while there are plenty of other options? I don't see any reason to do it.
