The best player the giants have ever had as far as talent wise was #56 Lawrence Taylor.
LT, then OBJ, then probably Strahan and debatably Andrew Thomas rn or Tiki barber cuz people forget just how much of a monster he was. Plax and Steve smith were also wildly talented. As talented as barkley is, the giants have had some incredible talents over the years. And I truly don’t believe he’s more talented then the first four I said. I mean he’s certainly close and I’m the conversation but still. And let’s not forget the all time int leader for the franchise in tunnel (who I obviously didn’t watch)

All time giants realistically up there with any all time team. Saquon probably either second or third most talented rb, our wrs although maybe not all hof players at their peaks were all time great, had great linemen before the last decade or so (minus AT), and very solid dbs everywhere. Maybe not the most elite corners but a lot of very good

@@Slimkidd730 Nothing I said was an opinion. Cook has had a more productive career than Barkley and got cut with a $12M AAV. Saquon is not high producing consistently. His best year was in 2018 and 2022 was his second best. The other 3 years were injury/decent but nothing warranting the price he wants, when someone who has produced more consistently and overall just got cut with only a $12M AAV contract then you have no leverage asking for more than that.

He is not actually sitting out, holding out or anything like that. He is not under contract as he has not signed the franchise tag offer. He basically has no affiliation with the team. I really dislike the media narrative of franchise tagged players that do not immediately sign the tag offer. It is basically dishonest on them to paint unsigned players in such a negative light.

Personally I pay him, but I absolutely understand why they wouldn’t. My only thing is that with the cap going up presumably by a lot and the amount of cap space they’re still projected to have next year, a 15/16 mil deal isn’t all that insane and within 2 years that number will look more like what 12/13 looks like to us rn. And having him under contract would also allow you to move money around if you need to, and you could probably still cut him in the last year or two of the deal and not take a massive hit. I think it’s worth paying him, but I definitely understand why they won’t budge. My guess is the dispute isn’t really with the total number, it’s with guaranteed money and years. If I had to guess the giants aren’t willing to give him 4 years or more than 50% guaranteed. And he wants 4 years $16+m/y with at least 70% guaranteed I’m guessing. A fair deal to me rounds out at about 14/15m per y but with about 60% guaranteed. I’d do year 1 80% guaranteed with a lower cap hit so like $12m, year 2 65% guaranteed at $17/18m, year 3 looking for the first out year where if he hasn’t shown enough he can get cut but still looking at 14m with 50% guaranteed and then the last year same number at 14m but with only 40% guaranteed (lots of attainable incentives to boost it though). This allows for a contract that is both flexible and fair, pays close to what barkley wants but allows the giants room to either restructure or move on if things don’t go well after the first two years.
Barkley was offered 14M yr & he declined it, he believes he deserves more, the top 2 paid RBs are Kamara & McCaffrey 16M because they are receiving RBs who are used differently

Why the heck did LeSean talk about OBJ? It happened under Gettleman's management. And we are very critic about his doings. Now we have a new front office, new coaching staff and a new culture in the organization. Well, and worst, he talked about a WR, not a RB. In modern football, we don't pay a LOT of money in a RB, unless it is, evidently, the only thing you are missing in your team to win a SuperBowl. That's not the Giants's case. Let me remind everyone. We had a great season, but we are still rebuilding, trying to get rid of all the unwanted players, cleaning the cap space mess of previous administration and developing our talents the right way. Saquon is an amazing player and person. The face of the franchise in the past years, no doubt, but I understand Schoen not wanting to pay him a huge amount of money, especially when you consider his injury history and the Giants needs in other positions

And I keep saying that point as why SB has all the leverage. IF SB goes out there day one of training camp, 1st play, tears his ACL and is out the whole season what is the difference? This "he could be rusty next year, don't sit out," argument is dum to me. IT allows a full year of his body not taking hits, as you stated, and he'll only be 27. Thats young enough to get a 4 or 5 year deal.

Think about it from this perspective. The position is being devalued, perhaps its just a trend. What will it do for the decline, if one of the current "greatest in the game," accepts a low paying contract? I'll Bet prognosticators who are much smarter than me will say, the market will continue to tank for runningbacks if one of the great ones "settles". I understand where he is coming from, but contracts arent based on what you "did", they are based on what you "will do". I feel there are just as many questions about Jones as there are about Saquon, just different questions. But Jones benefits from the value of that position, and I will 100% support the idea that we may be having loads of different conversations if Saquon was out last season, however, vice versa may also be the case. The team rallied around Both of them and this new coaching staff. To be honest, I hear many say, "The Giants will be bad without Saquon." Maybe, maybe not. I certainly don't want it to come to that, but all teams move on, that's the nature of professional sports. Now to throw one more bit of love Saquon's way, I do feel that Jones got his opportunity to play last year because of what happened to him since he entered the league. Ownership said it themselves, they never gave him a chance to succeed. So maybe Giants should consider what Saquon has done for this organisation, and for what he means to the fans, and not just on the field. Just a thought.........

DJ is integral to the offense w/o him the Giants are not competitive.

Shady is good on here and Acho presented and led the convo well but I'm hella surprised that everyone is forgetting the Gmen offered Saquan numerous deals in the 12-14 million dollar range probably incentive laden to some extent but those numbers nonetheless. Deal was offered during last season prior to Daniels deal and since, I'm all for Saquan trying to get the bag but as a Giants Fan I want my team to be good year in and year out can't run Saquan to the ground because he'll tire out or worse get hurt again. Saquon is really fortunate to be able to get 10 million. The Giants could retract that offer at any time, and then NO TEAM would offer him that much. It is by far the best deal he could possibly get. Above true market value for a running back, even one of his game-changing caliber.

Look if I am some NFL team I can't give Saquon long term deal. He is 26 years old. Yes he played great last year, but I can't forget about 2020 and 2021 season. I will try to trade him to a team that has salary cap and could use him. How about Chicago? I don't want Fields to be running around and this will encourage him to throw more next season. Gurley had a PRE INJURED KNEE and teams know that was gonna happen to his kneee. Some teams didn't even have him on their board. Zeke was dum and didn't just rest and get healthy .He came back super early on a MCL INJURY and messed up his skill set and body forever.
