SEE a Bugatti builder AND a MYTH BUSTER ! Guys that use body filler correctly. Have to fight an up hill battle, explaining , because ALL, the hackers thru the 60's ,70's,80's , 90's thru till today. That put it on an inch and more thick, to hide damage. So people have seen or know of all the horror stories with Bondo for generations. So thank you for creating a video, we all can direct , the uninformed, how it's done correctly. Thank You ! Now you just have to tell every body "wide open with lots of pressure ,IS NOT how you use an Air tool." A never ending learning process, lots of people don't understand ,let the tool do the work. Great video, pick a day to Announce the color Jolene has picked, you know us ARTist Types, have to envision, the VISION !
He is an excellent technician, he knows what he is going to do before he does it, I am a retired body man of 60 years in the business and very impressed with his skills.
Everyone has different standards. I don't agree with alot of what he does but you can't dispute that he has character and is extremely creative. I admire his ability to repurpose and budget build things. There will always be a place for that too.
I don't think Chad gets enough credit and understanding for what he does. He literally takes scraps of rust and handmakes a 40,000,000 car by doing it all himself of course with the lovely Jolene. Not everyone that is a Master takes the time to teach others how they do it and why they do it. Chad does this naturally as a way of paying it forward. They are both great people!
Thanks for your post. It was well said and captured my thoughts. I really enjoy his videos when he allows kids in his garage and shares pearls of wisdom. He is an excellent teacher and he seem a great guy.
iv'e been doing this work from the time i was 15 and i am now 65 so Bad Chad and i have the same way of doing things. Never had a job come back because of inferior workmanship. I always told my techs that do it right the first time or don't do it a all. Thank you Bad Chad and Jolene for the great videos and keep up the good work.
Chad, you and Jolene are amazing! You make my head spin when you do something and it turns out in such a short time! I've been around for 72 years and have not seen another builder that has the ability that you possess. Thanks for the inspiration and entertainment. You two are people to appreciate...and I do!
Chad is one of those few that has the vision and can achieve it with only hard work and next to nothing at times. Glad you have found your place and keep it up :)
Chad, you and Jolene are such an inspiration to car enthusiasts, and the younger generation. There are no (Unfortunately) high school shop classes anymore, so it is up to people like you and Jolene and I to teach this art of body work and or customizing etc etc. Please keep up the great work, and showing the simple and practical ways of doing great work like you and Jolene do...:-)
wish we had the internet and you on youtube when I was 16yo! I used to do this work in my barn on a series of old 50s and 60s VW bugs my dad bought me, and I'd do the body work and painting, and he'd sell them and let me have the profits. I had to learn everything from books from the library in our little town or what I could order from catalogs out of the backs of magazines, and use a Napa autoparts spray gun! I still enjoyed it, though I wish I had you to teach me then!
I am an old school bodyman and worked for many years without a mask except for painting where I always wore one. I noticed you don't use a cheese grater. Now that is amazing. I don't use squeegees just putty knives, some of them flexible. Maybe that's why I find it necessary to use the cheese graters but I can get it straight that way. The journeyman who trained me, use to say "bondo to bondo" you don't want a bunch of little spots with highs and lows in between. Great video keep it up and best wishes from California.
I love how honest your are even when you forget something. You don't let it get to you or slow you down. You just laugh it off explain it and keep moving forward.I wish other's were more like that.
WOW! I just watched Jay Leno with Legendary Motors as the guest, with this Bugatti as the star, where he said this Bugatti was in demand more at art galleries rather than car shows. And YOU have created one. Chad, please ignore any detractors you have referred to in your videos, although I cannot imagine any serious person having anything but praise for the work you do. Keep it up
Def one of the better explanations. No b.s. and simple . The only other person I like equally would be " spraywaycustoms channel" learned more in 5 min here than many other channels . Got my subscription
Love the way chad combines old school and modern products together, always been a hobby but I have done a lot of things the same way, have been using fiberglass mat for repairs of cars for yrs I'm surprised how similar some of his methods are to mine, of course chad is much more advanced when it comes to chopping and fabricating then I would ever dream of. Hats off to you mate.
Great tips! Love how you explain how to “flood” out the whole panel to save time rather than spotting in filler and having to worry about a higher chance of missing feathering an edge correctly👌
Dang !!! Chad is a pro mud slinger, never seen anyone with that much confidences, and expertise with filler. I learned a few tricks watching him...Thanks Chad.
I didn't know you were on TH-cam. so glad to have found you. Was very bummed when my tv stop showing your shows on. You go. You are the most creative person I've seen in a long time. Keep up the great videos. Thanks.
Good Timing for the day, I was doing collision work for 5 years and body works for more, have a brother that has been doing this for 20 plus years. His comments on masks come on that when needed only; I have the best and worse job, but love what I do... Can you say the same!!! Never thought of making it to 50 !! Just accepted that my work drives on for years after I'm gone! Craftsmanship is worth it.. and I'm the One who put it there!! Long live the bodymen who give it all!! Thanks Chad to show the real world of the craftsmanship that We endure!!
I have to say you have changed my mind on filling panels with filler. Fill large and fast.... And flat. So much time saved. I have spent whole days on the same sized sections in the past. You just roughed it in in 40 mins. Nice work
Another great video. I like that they're never edited. What you see is what you get. None of my projects would look good with skirts. These videos make me want to get something with fat fenders just so I can make a set! Lol. Keep the videos coming!
This is the best car building show on the net or TV Chad is a great teacher and Jolene has become a fantastic camera person. Thanks for all the learning you give us . I wish you great success in all you do!
I have done body work using this same method for years now and it works great! First time someone saw me doing it they thought I had lost it because I had a 65 mustang body filled completely shut! Hood doors trunk all of it completely filled shut so there was no body gaps at all. I blocked it out as if it was one continuous panel then went back and cut the gaps open and to size. That car came out so dang beautiful and straight it was awesome! Using the fiberglass filler first is a must just because it's stronger and takes any impact better then just straight filler. Just as a tip when you are doing the body work sanding it down, throwing a guide coat on the filler is a helpful step just so you can see it better. Doing the spot filler allover instead of how you did with covering all of it, all the spots are making high and low spots when you apply it in small sections sometimes making it even waiver then if you just did one big layer. That car is badass to just throwing that in there!!
Only one thing to say about you Chad ... AWESOME car builder and teatcher in how to do it the right way.. Thanks for a super channel.. Merry Christmas. 👍👍🇧🇻🇧🇻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Seriously, I'm 18 and my dad really tried to teach me how to do body work. But he is making it so easy to understand. This guy has an eye like you wouldn't believe and a feel for body work.
So much for being primed by christmas day. Doing a great job Chad! Adding skirts was a big job but I agree that it needs them. It's a fantastic looking car. Jolene is going to love it. I hope you bag the suspension.
Chad , I think what you do with metal is addicting to watch. I'm hooked.your always a very positive personality and that's a big one in my book . Thanks for your show , and keep up the good work. Don
Looks really good! I officially accept you as a true artist by your creativity and your open mind of true visionary skills. God bless you and keep up the good work 💯
Learned stuff these past few videos ,the pattern making has always been a difficult concept for me ,the welding of round rod an excellent method. The roller to form strength on the fender skirt fantastic use of ideas . 👍
I never have been successful at applying body filler. Now I see what I have been doing wrong. I just may give it another try and flood the panel and now I know why my feathering never looks right. Thanks Chad and Jolene!
The "mud hog" is an old favorite of mine, a great time saver on the larger areas. Truth is...the gear driven machine provides consistent removal and better control than random orbit or oscillating sanders. A good dual piston straight file is great, but NOTHING rips on body filler with predictable results like an 8 inch GEAR DRIVEN sander...A.K.A. THE MUD HOG!
Thank God for body filler, when I started in the trade in 1957 any panel repair had to be straightened as much as possible the molten lead was used to fill in the low spots, it was a labor intensive and tedious process. Also the early fillers were unpredictable, the hardener was clear liquid and you never knew if it was thoroughly mixed consequently you ended up having areas that didn’t cure and other areas that as hard as concrete. Also you see how he is mixing the product, on more than one occasion as I was mixing the product it would start to smoke and set up right on the mixing board. The big breakthrough came with the advent of colored hardener ,than when it was mixed you knew it was uniform.
You sound like you’re the same age as me. That’s the way I was taught, metal finish and lead load the small areas you couldn’t get at. We were rationed to one small tin of Plastic Padding per week when it first came out. If we went & asked for more we were asked “what have you done with the one you were given” ? !!! Now it seems plastering the entire body is the accepted way, at least in main stream body repair shops. It’s all about quantity (throughput 💴 💴💴), not quality. Thankfully there are a few coach builders who do it the “old way” .
How is it that TH-cam never showed me one video of yours for years. I'm from the United States and all I could find for videos is from Canada. I'm glad I got see your channel now I really like your videos
I appreciate the time and effort you put into making these videos. It is always useful to watch and learn from how others do things. Merry Christmas to you two!
You are fantastic, fast, and fascinating. I wish you were closer to me so I could get my 39 Merc done the way I would like to see it finished. I have to many irons in the fire trying to finish the easy ones first .It's still nice to dream ,maybe one day down the road. In the mean time I'll be watching you. Happy New Year and God bless.
i am from the uk - Brilliant love the show cant get enough now searching youtube LOL down to earth , keeping it real its a privilige to leave a positive comment
iam a painter for 45 years still i enjoy watching body and paint work you are doing a good job please take care of your body and health and use guide coat it help your to locate the problem easier .keep up .
Chad i am watching you working on the fender skirt from your Bugatti . Got to admit your one heck of a car builder . im from LA my name is Tommy. Keep up your good work.
Hey chad there's been alot of talk about a mask listen, I am a 62 year old body collision tech, since I was quite young my dad was a body man . But now I fight with lung problems so please wear a mask! Respirator even better, but at least a mask! Happy holidays to you and jo.😎
I don't know how he can sand the filler while it is curing with the all the fumes it puts off. I had to end up using an air mask when I was doing it years ago or I was highed up all day and things would get very dangerous or should I say I would get very dangerous. lmfao You know Joline has got to love filming in there. I bet If an average person opened the door to walk in his shop they would pass out from the fumes. lol
I don't understand why all of you concern yourselves with his business. I wear a mask, you wear one, but he doesn't, his choice. Stop trying to be some great protector, worry about yourself.
Sie Bauen echt Cooole AUTOS ..ICH WÜNSCHE WEITER HIN VIEL ERFOLG..Ich schau mir ihre Serie immer an auf D max ..weiter so ..ich verpass keine Serie von ihnen...
You’re the best I’ve ever seen applying mud! Poetry in motion. Best explanations on TH-cam without a doubt. Could you guys do a video on the tools you use? Size of compressor, sanding disks, paint guns, type of bonds, fibreglass, etc.
BC you definitely inspire me and this ride your working on is what dreams are made of.You really got it brother.I been building cars since I was a kid but never built the way you do,but I want to build something super before I croak I'm 65 now but I still love my cars but you give me a new outlook at what is big time cool .Thanks bro,I also subbed your channel .I only pick the BEST channels and with personality and you got that too bro.Keep on doin' what your doin' Or you could end up disabled like me,But I still try I just move a lot slower.I won't give up on my dreams either.
I love this project, but I can’t believe that you’ve actually covered the whole car with body filler. Real coach builders file finish and lead fill small areas only where absolutely necessary.
Yes we do or at least I did for almost 50years. I remember my first time in a Canadian crash repair shop, back in the mid seventies and the owner didn’t know how to metal finish. Just rough it out & lay the Bondo on like plastering a wall. Needless to say he didn’t know about lead loading either. It was a real eye opener, but I have to say that the folks I met were the salt of the earth. In later years Bondo became widely used here in the U.K. , the “old ways” were no longer cost efficient in repair shops. Coach built vehicles are the opposite, quality costs money, lots of money 💴. Merry Christmas to all & if you’re going to be using stuff that’s a danger to your health -- wear a respirator.
This is a very high quality build! I‘m very impressed! Merry Christmas to you and Jolene! You two will love riding Around in this Bugatti after its all done! Can’t wait to see it then!😊👍
Great!!! I love the real time aspect of Jolene and your videos. I have a '46 Dodge WC that I can't wait to use your techniques on. Thank you so much from Long Island, NY. Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Hey Chad. Great video! You are very skilled and helping many people learn how to do the work. Question: how do you apply that primer that you showed. Is that a spray on only product or do you brush it on and then sand? Thank you.
Muy bueno el programa segui así yo soy hojalatero desde los 9 años años 48 años que tengo imagínate solo Construyo lo que sea pero son juguetes no de verdad como esos que construyes tu pero la pasión es la misma

I don't understand why all of you concern yourselves with his business. I wear a mask, you wear one, but he doesn't, his choice. Stop trying to be some great protector, worry about yourself.

Real talk, real techniques, real results, real deal.
Great job brother another engaging upload, hope you guys get to chill out tonight!
This is a very high quality build!
I‘m very impressed! Merry Christmas to you and Jolene! You two will love riding
Around in this Bugatti after its all done!
Can’t wait to see it then!😊👍
Jolene, good Christmas present for Chad, a ventilation system, a nice respirator and a box of dust masks!! Toxic dust not healthy!! ☮️❤️
Who cares, he doesn't wear one. Why do you all feel some paternal need to be a protector of everyone?
Great!!! I love the real time aspect of Jolene and your videos. I have a '46 Dodge WC that I can't wait to use your techniques on. Thank you so much from Long Island, NY. Merry Christmas!!!!!!
Primed by Christmas or fender skirts. Fender skirts 👍 Love y’all. Merry Christmas!
love the lines and Fibonacci proportion to the curves, beautiful.
Hey Chad. Great video! You are very skilled and helping many people learn how to do the work. Question: how do you apply that primer that you showed. Is that a spray on only product or do you brush it on and then sand? Thank you.
Bodywork skills are legit!
