  • Hello guys, in this video we will create a simple road spline using the new landscape layer tools from Unreal Engine 4.24 We will create from scratch a simple road mesh and apply a Quixel Megascans texture to it. You can follow this tutorial to create any road, or path for your landscape. Just note you must be using Unreal Engine 4.24 or higher!

    Thanks for this. I was originally just brining in static meshes and duplicating them for a road. This simplifies that process immensely. Earned a sub. Thanks.

    Thanks by this video. Do you know if is possibile to construct an spline from a blueprint and use it to manke the landscape? I have some numeric points from an Excel table, dinamicaly I will generate the spline using blueprint to import the table and after I will construct my road, but I need that the landscap goes alingned to the road.

    Thank you so much! Firstly, I created another version of the road mesh on Maya but it didn't work, Idk why but it was too small for the material and it got mixed up with the material's direction. I was so frustrated. Only when I noticed you'd put a link to your road mesh version created on Blender that it worked for me. You've saved me a bunch of times. Please keep up the good work!

    I followed your tutorial step by step and thank you for that! But I am facing a horrible situation. There are gaps in the spline segments and it looks awful. I have done this over 10 times now and each time, I am facing the same thing. There are not many solutions on the internet and I found one where someone said the road mesh made in blender must have its origin at one end and not in the middle; I did that too but the result is the same. Can you kindly help me?

    • @Snowfly1
      @Snowfly1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He goes over it pretty quickly so its easy to miss but before you apply your mesh to the spline, make sure youve pressed segments. This is what lets you use the mesh as an array and automatically connects the ends. For reference i used a 2m x 2m road mesh and everything connects up nicely for me. I hope this was what was causing the issue for you.

    You avoided the hardest part in this which is realistic road intersections. No road in real world exist without intersections

    • @THEAETIK
      @THEAETIK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Every single tutorial in existence will avoid this section which I find infuriating. Junctions are pretty annoying to do out of the box even still on UE 4.25..
      There's a solution called "Modular Road Tool" made on 4.18 but user reported it still works on 4.25. Look it up on youtube, there's an epic thread too. Can't link to it, for some .. child(?) protection reasons TH-cam literally shadowbans comments with hyperlinks (you can see it, logoff and no one does).
      Another not as good solution : This month there's a featured (free) plugin called "Modular Snap System" that works with splines, problem is it's still regular splines instead of the landscape ones, so you'll need your own blueprint logic to match with the terrain.
      Worst solution: Manually place mesh junction and chew your lips away tryingto perfectly line everything like a maniac.
      The other road plugins are either outdated or extremely overpriced. The best software by far seems to be VectorZero's RoadRunner (seriously that thing is jaw dropping, I recommend looking it up just to flip your world upsidedown), but since it's for civil engineering. the thing probably costs +/- 8000 USD for one license. Sigh.
