Non-Destructive Landscape tools in UE4 (Spline Actor)

  • In this video I show how to create a spline road to use in Unreal Engine (4.24 and above) which will non-destructively deform the landscape to conform to the road.
    Because TH-cam does not allow Annotations anymore, I wasn't able to correct something I said in the video. When I create the last segment of the spline, I meant to say ctrl click on the first spline point, not right click.

    I've been scratching my head as to how make landscape splines work for a while now (still a newbie) and you've just made this so acutely clear. Enable edit layers - I was missing this step. Thank you!!

    I was so consumed by the graphics improvement that I totally overlooked this new feature. Thanks for showing it. Also I love videos like this, no nonsense straight to the point.

    How do you fill-up the gap between the ground and the Spine? I have tried EVERYTHING and can not get it to work. Since I am a beginner (beginner's Beginner) please provide every detail - including how you fill up "Editing Landscapes" with mud, grass, snow, etc. Thank you - I really need this.

    Is there a way that I can make a realistic intersection? Like there are left and right turn lanes and changing the textures at the end of the roads?

    • @Pixelfondue
      @Pixelfondue  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are some kits out there on the market place that will allow you to create simple intersections but if you really want realistic roads and intersections, you're best off creating your own custom static meshes.

      The road mesh came from one of poly pixels asset packs on the Unreal Marketplace. Believe its called industrial city but any mesh with a tilable texture will work.

    apparently layer edits still has bugs as soon as i enable layer editing...my landscape acts all weird like some parts of it broken as if theres camera clipping. Didnt see any kind of settings that refer to those possibly bugs

  • @lordsombo

    I'm not sure why but it doesn't deform the landscape for me, the road either floats above the land or goes below it at different points

      Click "Segments" on the right so it selects all of the road segments at once and then go to the far left of screen and click "Only Selected".

    why you write spline actor?? you use engine spline lool you dont need to enable layer edit like this only if you creat actor with spline
