I would definitely have the Mx5 but the corvette was sandbagging the whole race; hardly revving it at all.

I know it's an old video however I have to say great car & beautifully driven - kudos 👍. It's really good your friend in the Corvette filmed you for a lap. Your on board uncut video is impressive however seeing you attack each corner apex & watching the car squirm around from the Corvette camera was fantastic!

I believe that there is too much traffic on the track. Less cars - better times...
the mx5 is quick and has sick mods but the c6 remains superior in almost every aspect except the light weight feel. the chassis is pretty advanced, very well designed, all aluminium, better stability at high speed, engine is naturally aspirated so better throttle feel, very good sounding exhaust, the exterior design is much better imo, probably more reliable as it is since turbocharging puts more stress on components, strong chassis, safer and no rust issues.
mx5 is still very good, with exceptional handling and easier to maintain.
yeah i know they drive lik a dream i own one but shes kinda sad right now i bought it for $600 not knowing if it ran (yes it was stupid i know) had some soft top, paint and body damage light body just minor hail storm caused it and now come to find out its got the FACTORY shocks i asked him after i found out he said "they never felt bad so i didnt have them done" the thing bounces down the road lol but it still handles decent oh and its got 185K miles but its getting changed in a week
well kinda shitty story bout it we had a horrible storm blow in about 2 months ago and caused a 70 foot pine tree to land on it insurance ended up getting me another one with less miles than the previous and is in better condition not much was lost in the last one just my hard dog that i got on craigslist for 150 bucks
most car newbies on youtube need to watch this race when they talk about how "fast" one car is than another. depends if there are turns or straights and the tuning, maybe a mix inbetween, depends on the track or the tasks the car needs to accomplish. I see too many comments about shit that dont even know what kinda fast their talking about. nooobs

The miata driver seems to be a little bit too aggressive on the turn in. It looks like the balance of the car gets upset. But then again with a car with such a short wheelbase. needs to hit the apex late so it can get the power down on the exit.

funny, the mx-5 is the best selling sportscar of all time. And Top Gear named it one of the best handling cars of all time, and i've never met anyone, besides you, to be stupid enough to say that it is a bad car. i bet you've never even driven one

Not knowing the Nurburgring is like having no clue of racing.
He could have easily wiped 10 seconds off this time had he not had to slow for traffic and the workmen at the beginning. Great little car and very well driven, I thought. Bought my own very tidy and rust free mk1 MX5 for £600 as a result of this video...absolutely love it. Much better than my Caterham and a twentieth of the price!

168,000 miles! 2004 Miata Mazdaspeed! Burn rubber every day! 9 states Auto X, 5 states Drags! Every day I pop clutch 2 burn and to chirp break. Drag Race 1/8 & 1/4 mile 2-4 days a month. Only 2 clutches & 2 sets of brake pads and 3 cracked windshields and 21 sets of tires!
Driver of that MX5 couldn't handle a stock 1.6 without being too jarring. He needs much more training in that chassis.
Agree anything can race anything its called putting money into the lesser vehicle. But in this video that vette driver wasn't even trying every time the vette willingly reeled in the miata he laid off. That vette coulda over taken that miata a hundred times and when he did he gave it back. The second lap if shown woulda been different 10:50 on that vette poured it on like it shoulda at 9:20 the vette was tracking the miata warmin up for lap 2. Rewatch it an pay attention please?
Don´t be an ass. Anyone can see the corvette is going of the gas all the time, including the poster of the question you answered.
If a 20 year newer car, with a hard roof and 400 more horses under the bonnet can´t easily beat a miata, the law of physics and evolution have stopped working.
The impressive thing is that the old mx5, with a suspension from today, keeps up on the twisty stuff, and maybe even gains a little.
I got mine for about $400 almost no rust. It started kicking out blue smoke out the tail pipe, so the owner was about to junk it. So i took it off his hands not knowing what was actually wrong with it. I figured I would have to replace the engine. But after I got it back to my house. Closer inspection revealed all it needed was a valve cover gasket =) Im currently building it up now. Should have a worthy canon carver/track day car by spring! Let me know the progress on your mx5!
on race tires, you can run a lower pressure for more grip.
the 32psi rating is for daily driving tires which sacrifice performance for economy.
I run 12psi on my drag car..... should i run 32psi on my slicks? Would that get me better than a 1.5 second 60foot time? or 0-60mph faster than 2 seconds?
For you all that think this was a race, read the description of the video right below the video. The Corvette was following most the time. This Corvette does the ring in low 7 seconds while the Mazda does it in the low 8 seconds. This was more like a video shoot and not a race.
Oooh, that looks twitchy as anything. I'm in two minds about FI in a '5. On the one hand, its fun as it is. On the other hand it would be faster... but somehow more serious. I don't image you could take as many liberties with it when bombing around at 100+!
And who cares about laptimes in a MX5, anyways? If it takes you ten minutes to do a lap at the Nordschleife, it only means you get two and a half extra minutes of fun for the same price of the guy in the Corvette.
I'm actually surprised how well was the corvette keeping up in the corners! The mx5 was on toyos R888s as well?
Hahaha that makes sense. I was about to say I kno those things can fly through the turns. I've found with some standard tires at the 32psi rather than 35 psi they get a little bit of tire roll (it feels like) but it just sticks the turns, over and over. There is a reason the mx-5 gets the #1 spot for thrills per bills every year!
Most important thing to running that car better(can tell by listening) put the 32psi like it says in the book, in those tires!!! Don't listen to the tires...
There is another video of a so called stocked Miata doing this track in 7 minutes and 58 seconds. What's the deal there?
stock-ish power mk3 stripped to the bone... great car with öhlins that costs more than my whole turbo mk1 and semi-slick tyres and racing brakes and a driver who is paid to performance test koenigseggs from monday to friday.

@The2001cobra and noticed that the miata only has 180hp and some cheap mods to suspension according to the owner, it has the potential to race against corvette.

Every year! I love the little thing(99' miata US). I'm 6'3" so I have to drive with the top down but besides that ya can't go wrong. If I had the money I would rent her around the track for a day.
