The Headmasters and Targetmasters were the reasons I had any interest in the Transformers in 1987.

Ken, once you had said that you received a headmaster as a child in kindergarten I got a little sad. Not for you of course, but for me as you just reminded me of how old I really am. As the headmasters were released it was just about the end of my G1 collecting...I was on my way to HS at that point. In fact, my last G1 transformers purchased at the end of my childhood collecting were Hardhead and I believe one or two of the Seacons. I had a complete G1 collection at that time up to those characters when I stopped.
Of course we are all grown up and can continue our collections. So, most of the headmasters and characters going forward are new to me!
You got really deep in this video and well beyond what I knew. I appreciate it and this is a great resource video!

Very interesting look back at the 87 TF lineup. My G1 collection mainly occupies the 84-86 time period so it's nice to learn a bit more about what came after.

Great video! The 1987 characters are heavily represented in my current Generations collection with the Monsterbots, Terrorcon and Decepticon Headmasters. I do love Cybertronian monsters.

This was a solid good video sir- thanks for doing it! I was fortunate to get a boxed Raiden back in the late 1990s & man is he sweet! Once I had a lead on some of those exclusive headmasters heads, but if I bought any they were sold or stolen.

Thx for watching. Raiden is indeed a gem among gems!

I’m a fan of gimmick transformers as long as said gimmick is integrated well into the toy and doesn’t feel slapped on or at the very least feels fun. For example the head and target masters or a personal favorite of mine the double spy counter punch.

I think 87 was a rough year for TF fans in North America. The new cast by itself made for decent enough toys....but the entertainment connection was just not as palatable for me.

The Headmaster characters remind me a little bit of some of the Diaclone models... Any relation?
