    I really enjoy listening to your lives.I just raced my second young bird race after being out of birds for a couple decades. Starting out slow but man i can't understand how i stayed away for so long.I feel your system of care and feeding is working well for me so far.

      Hi Bruce, It is great to have you back. It is nice to win but the excitement of the pigeons returning from a race or even loft flying is also very special. You will do great and try not to make things too complicated. Have the birds work around your schedule.

    Bummed I missed the live! Great vid as always. Had great success using that LA-200 last week, had two birds with one-eyed colds and they both looked great again after two or three days. I have a hen that didn't produce any eggs since I got her and will not mate up, I know she was a good racer. I'm going to try the salmonella vaccine method you've described to see if I can get her feeling better.

    Hello Frank what are your thoughts on Dordin, Decroix, James Bond 007 and pigeons from the Ponderosa studs. Thanks plenty and all the best. You are a modern day mentor for us starting in the sport.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

      I am happy if I can help and be a bit of a mentor. Dordin and Decroix are old families and I guess the James Bond Pigeon my be the one from Smeulders that Eijerkamp owned. I visited Decroix many years ago and also handled James Bond. Dordin was before my time. I am sure they are still some good ones in those families. Buy close are around performance pigeons not just bloodlines. I have not looked at Ponderosa in many years.

    In answering questions about timing of training before the race season, please state the dates because we don't know when you made the video. So, when you say "now" or " next week," I don't know when that was in relation to the races.

    My dad was long distance flyer he use to graft flight feathers in when a race bird broke one he was so good you couldn't tell, he had a sack full of flight feathers he kept and he won 500 and 600 mile races all the time, half the time I was the one who held the bird while he grafted the flight feathers and was the one who ended up clocking those same birds while he was at work he finished his last season in 2014 winning the 600 miler 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and had the only day bird I believe he even beat the Salt Lake City guys as well 30 to 40 miles north of him

    Good afternoon a question on feeding my young bird team. When feeding 80% barley 20% grain do I slowly work my way up to that mix or can I just go to a 80/20 mix?
    I’m feeding 22.6 oz of feed to 72 birds that’s 2 coffee cans at 11.3 oz can once a day.
    Most days they eat it all and some days they leave very little barley
    Thanks for your time and help Mr. Frank

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just go right to the 80% 20%. If you feed once a day until they leave a little barley that is perfect for the young birds.

    • @sheltoncourville2331
      @sheltoncourville2331 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Frank. My young birds raced the whole season in northeast direction. Next year, I will be joining a different club, racing in the northwest direction. Is it ok to have my this year young birds (raced in northeast direction) to race as old birds next year in the northwest direction? Thanks for all the great advice.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will do just great. You must go slow and start a little earlier in the new direction. If you trained all directions last year you can train as normal. This does not effect them.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Frank, if one has 30 birds prepared and only send 20 to the race after they have had high-energy food on the Thursday of basketing for the Saturday race do you just go back to 80% mix on Friday or can one skip feeding on Friday altogether?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. You can feed the 80% barley mix on Friday to the pigeons that did not race and no need to feed a lot. You can also feed the birds that did not race on Saturday the 80% barley so they are not able to eat too much of the rich feed. You can also move the birds from the loft that did not race or take them on training on race day. No need to have the birds that did not race pig out on the rich feed.

    After a bird competes in OLR, what are they used for? They can no longer loft race right? Only breed if they are qualified?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are really only good for breeding. Some try to break and train the bird which is possible to race from a new location. Best to breed the bird if it was showing some promise in the season. To finish the series can show the bird has something.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว

      I never stock anything until the pigeon proves itself. If you pay a lot for a pigeon you can certainly try to breed from the young but for me the bird has to be good before I will breed from the youngsters.
