The Shure SM7B is a notoriously gain hungry mic. A low waveform is perfectly normal. An in-line amp like the Cloud Lifter is considered standard equipment now for the SM7B, and they bring OOMPH to any dynamic.
I had this problem a year ago I realized it can be simply me not speaking loud enough into the mic, not adding enough gain into the interface, or I need a cloudlifter or a fethead for extra gain (I didn't need this as I bought the minifuse 1 which is powerful to run the sm7b). I'm glad that you're making a video on this because while I don't need it a video like this would have made learning this stuff so much easier
I remember starting out like that 25 years ago. I said: "I just want a mic", they said: "What for", me: "to record me into the computer". Then it was harder, now it is easy, but you still need to know stuff about the options, and what they sound like with your voice. I gave up many times on this because I was too impatient enough to learn and experiment. TH-cam has made it much easier, and much more complicated at the same time.
I have the sm7b and I have the cloud lifter. I use logic when I record I can hear it just fine. its not to quiet. but my waveform is still very small or even just a line. how would you suggest fixing this
So I'm using a Condenser mic Audio technica with a Scarlett interface and if i gain to the desired level i get a lot of room noise. My recording space isn't ideal. Is there another approach you recommend for my situation? @@DarkCornerStudios
Lol. Interesting topic and take on it. I personally have an SM58 plugged straight into a Scarlett Solo (gain ~90% or so - still a bit of headroom) and I can comfortably scream at around -18 db to -12 db as read by Reaper which I find to be plenty loud. If I'm going to mix my voice, I'll add a bit of light compression (~3:1) and maybe layer it, but not necessarily. PS: scream as in the vocal style, not the volume. I know -18 db doesn't qualify as screaming, but it sounds cool.
I stumbled upon this video because I switched from GoPro to Insta360 Ace Pro. I'm using the same microphone that was inside my motorcycle helmet (Movo). The Waveforms on GoPro were great and I could easily distinguish motor noise versus me talking. Now with Ace Pro, everything is just like a small solid line. It's very annoying. I increased gain all the way up. No difference.
Just purchased an nt1a mic along with the focus rite solo... I have tried everything over and over and it does record vocals fine but the waveform is basically a line. Can't seem to figure out what's the issue
I have the nt1 and have the same problem, when u normalize the vocals it gets bigger but sometimes it records really small other times it records normal
I have a condenser mic, an audiotechnica 2035 and no matter what I do, it's crazy quiet. I turned the gain up until it was just below the redline, but even still, I have to be practically trying to eat the mic to get anything on the other end. Any advice for those of us with condenser mics?
Help!!!!! I have a rode nt1 and it’s a condenser and my audio is still practically a line unless I put gain on way to high and then it picks up to much
My vocals don't even have any visibile waveform until i normalize them someone help please and my mic picks up soooo much static noise for some reason I don't get it my interface mic gain is -10db and my microphone input settings is like 15 it's so strange
There is one thing you missed: if you're on a macbook ie. you'll need a extender to connect regular usb's. When connecting via an extension like that the gain is lost 10x. This was the case for me. When I connected via direct cable it worked flawlessly and less noise as well.
I bought condenser mic, NEUMANN TLM 102 gave it back at service and they say thats all is ok. While waveform look like this what u showed.. Idk whats now
Ok, that's funny. Poop sausage. Nice.
POOP FROM THE BOOTH

Dammit, man. Your content just keeps getting better. Love how you try to head the haters off at the (high) pass (filter) too...

It's that mix of entertainment and info...it can be a hard line to tread when talking tech...
Best if you add saturation

no solutions yet?

@@Hussle4life only solution I’ve found is normalize the audio but that doesn’t help when actually recording

I'm with a mini-fuse 1 Arturia with an AKG P120, see that small waveform, home recording. what do you suggest?

Scarlett never, Tascam always.
All this time, I thought it was spelled 'Delgadio." Talk about a self-Mandela effect.
DAMN HE REALLY HAS AUDIO IN HIS NAME.
