- This weekend we are replacing the engine on a 2015 Kia Optima SX turbo
2 years ago the customer brought his car in to 771 Motorsports because his engine wouldn't run right - it was stuck in limp mode without any power. The Kia dealership diagnosed it as a blown engine and gave him a quote for $9000 for the repair
We diagnosed it as a seized turbo - we found the turbine in the exhaust...
We replaced the turbo and oil feed line (which was plugged with solidified oil) and the car was back to running like a top
Fast forward 40,000kms later and the customer came back with the engine knocking and sounding like a bag of hammers
We were able to find a good replacement engine with low mileage and got the job done in 2 days - 1 day to remove the old engine, 1 day to install the new one
The car now runs better than ever and the customer couldn't be happier - which is the most important part
Enjoy this video as we vlog and go through the whole process

Thanks! I was using the Canon RP for this shoot
10:26 Did you spin the crankshaft COUNTER-clockwise??????????😢😢😢😢
Can we change 2011 gdi engine to turbo engine 2016 Kia Optima
If you’re looking to replace a non turbo engine with a turbo engine, there will be lots of other things to swap over rather than just the engine. I am not sure what that will take to complete
@@paulyplewa thanks mate yea i am thinking non turbo to turbo
@@raghwindersingh2437 yeah that will be quite the big swap. The ECU will be different, headers and intake, as well as the inter cooler. It can be done but it will be a lot of work and quite possibly some custom fabrication
How much would a motor like that cost?
It all depends where your from and what the local market is like. This engine cost about $1500 CAD at the time. But they range anywhere from $1000 to $4000
Where you guys located
Ontario Canada
Dude looks like Mike Posners Doppler ganger fa real
My kia went at 80k with no turbo 😢
Oh no! I hope you were able to get it fixed up or replaced!
My 2012 SX Turbo motor seized at 112k.. getting mine replaced by Kia for free. It’s a shame because this car is damn fast. But at least my car will last me another 10 years.
Make sure you use good oil and change it regularly! That is why the engine failed for this customer. Best of luck with you SX Turbo!
I thought it was only a 100k/10yr at warranty
@@HernanHH95 I bought the car from a Ford dealership in my hometown at 64k mileage. Received a recall list in the mail a month after I bought the car but threw it away because I didn’t think I would need it. I towed it myself to Kia after the motor gave up and they replaced it for free saying it was on there end. I change my oil every 7,000 miles and use Moble One synthetic every time. Never have used anything different.. been using Mobile One for 5 years now. Don’t know anything about 100k/10yr warranty. And would be kinda dumb considering your engine shouldn’t blow up before reaching 100k mileage.
@@paulyplewa I’ve used Mobile One for years.. haven’t had any problems until the engine blew but that was on Kia’s end. Any recommendations?
@@ryancarlucci7664 I think Mobil one is good oil, as long as you use synthetic. I believe they reccomend using 5W30, you could use 5W40 so that it breaks down less in the heat from the turbo. I would also change the oil more frequently than 7000 miles. In my opinion thats too long between changes. In all my turbo vehicles, or vehicles with modified engines, I change my oil every 3000-3300 miles. Another thing to keep in mind is to give your turbo engine time to cool down before shutting off, so that the turbo and oil feed line to the turbo has enough time to cool down so that the oil isn't sitting in one spot while being burning hot. If you are boosting and coming home hot hot hot then you run the risk or solidifying the oil in the turbo feed line and that will starve your turbo of oil
Dope
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
@@paulyplewa no problem. Just had issues with my kia definitely learned alot from your vid and others. Im a keep my car now lol.
@@IMf410 glad to hear you learned some things, that was the purpose of my video. To share my experience working on this Kia and what it takes to fix it
Both the YF Sonata and this here model are sexy looking sporters, shame they have shit engines .. I bought my sonata 2.0 practically brand new and have had nonstop probs and recalls ever since. But I babied my sonata to the "T", down to her engine bay sparkling clean. I had the plastic on the carpets from dealership and just barely ripped them out like a year ago but she's just a shit curse of a car I tell ya
Its too bad Kia has unlimited mileage replacement on these
In Canada there is no unlimited mileage replacement on these engines unfortunately
The guy who owns this car has no idea how to take car for a turbocharged car
Agreed! 👍
9:23 what a silly guy
Very silly!
