    First of all thanx for making the video, and i think what will help me (gonna go try it out tomorrow) is the part when you told Joey to hold the lead line once the net is thrown, I think i been letting everything go all together.

    After watching numerous videos on how to cast my 12 foot net and fail after fail, THIS ONE DID IT FOR ME! I can throw nice circles every attempt now. Thanks for the excellent video and demonstrations.

    I've been throwing 14' for years. 1/4" mesh and 1.5 lbs became too heavy for me. Went to a 10' net and tried some different technical ways to throw it. I must of watched a hundred of these demonstrations. This is by far the best. Really easy and you even show the thumb being used instead of the teeth. I've been using my teeth for years but are now going to try and go the thumb method. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it and learned a bunch......

    Frank - I was so intrigued by your video and the logic of the attributes of a sinking net and how it acts in the water I rush ordered a 10ft from Amazon - it arrived today. I went out to my driveway and on my third throw using your technique, threw an almost 100% pancake spread!!! Kept going of course and all my other throws were never less the 75% open. Not holding the net long enough with the pinky is always the variable that keep it from fully opening as you stated many times. Thank you for the GREAT video and engaging explanation.

    Dear Captain Frank:
    You are truly a genius. Such a simple, quick way to throw the net! I've been cast netting for years and can cast pretty good however using your method, the net opens EACH AND EVERY TIME!!! I enjoy throwing the net and have watched many videos, but your video gets an A+++++, Thank you so much for such a GREAT video!! I really appreciate it!!
    Thanks again,
    Bob
    Post Note: I noticed you have to be careful about using 1/2 the net in the right hand. if you use more than half, the net opens but only on 1 side. If you use 1/2 the net in the right hand, no more no less, it opens up completely,

    Captain Frank - again I took a break, went back out and frankly, I need some syrup and butter now. I threw so many pancakes, I need to feed a crowd. LOL, thank you so much for the instruction. I also threw my 5' and 7' to compare, and you are soooo right on the 10' being superior on pure coverage and net in the water.

    I have an 8' net that I usually do pretty well with. I've yet to try it from my kayak but will be soon. I'm hoping it's even possible. Hopefully one of the two ways will work well from the Yak. I'll let you know after the first time I attempt it which will probably be sometime over the next few weeks. Tomorrow night I am finishing my outrigger system which will dramatically increase my stability on the water. I have fallen out twice now this year and it was not pretty.

    I bought a brand new 8-foot last year. unable to finish last year because of work-related issues and time as well. the first time I throw a cast net was a disaster. all I could do after that was laugh. I realize that it's a lot harder than What It Seems. this fishing season I will have it down. practice. and then more practice.

    I have two different size Cast nets when is 8 ft 38 mess and 10 ft 3 in a quarter mess. I have more than enough to catch bait with these to cast nets. They're made by Black Pearl company. They are the best castnets I've ever have. They're light and they're open up like a pancake each cast!

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the net in the video is 12ft (24ft diameter). The net is Frank's own design, he sells them. They are unique because he has hard plastic spacers between the lead weights that help stiffen it slightly to assist with opening.
      There are many ways to throw a cast net, everyone needs to find what works best for them. This is one, very solid option. I am glad you enjoyed the video.

  • @walkman88us1
    @walkman88us1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    FLI...I have tried a hundred methods and still not getting good results. Tried this one. Have a few questions. I assume you are left handed??? When spreading the net, you place the front part that you spread in your right hand and eventually grab with you right hand pinkie and gather the spreaded part. All in your right. Since you are holding with your right pinkie am I to assume the front or part your throw first would be your left then hang on with the right pinkie? Would it be opposite for a righty? Thanks

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am right-handed...and I believe Frank and Joey are as well. Your grabbing the net with your right hand. You are throwing the net predominately with the right hand. The key is, you have the back of the net hooked into the right hand pinky. So when you use your right hand to throw the net, the back end of the net gets held back or delayed for a moment, . That seems to be what helps the net to open. It's kind of a cheat, but it helps. Watch at 5:10 how frank uses the pinky to hold the back of the net.

    • @walkman88us1
      @walkman88us1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, I see. He is throwing with his right hand like a frisbee and holding with his pinkie on the same hand. Gonna take some practice. Thanks!

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow..lol..I was afraid I didn't explain that well. I am glad you got it!
      It sounded a little awkward when Frank explained it to me. But then on the second cast it worked. Is this the BEST method for casting a net? I have no clue, but it worked for me and was to difficult to remember after you did it a couple of times. I am sure for some people, other methods might work better.
      Remember, even the pro's have an off day! th-cam.com/video/9_9AfafCoYw/w-d-xo.html

    • @walkman88us1
      @walkman88us1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, one more question if you don't mind. I have it opening an opening well but only the right half. I am placing the line in my left thumb then gathering the right half with my right and holding the right pinkie. Am I suppose to hold on to the left thumb as well as the right pinkie? Thanks!

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am no expert, as I only had the chance to try Frank's method a few times. But it seems to me, as you are throwing it with the right hand, the left hand is also moving to the left to help spread it open 3:33. Frank engaged the thumb on the left hand, but had me use my teeth instead as it is a little simpler. But that is just my impression.

    Right, I'm going to put a wet, possibly muddy net in my mouth. After the first throw, this technique is for the birds.

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ironically, most techniques (not all) for throwing cast nets involve holding the edge of the net in your teeth. Using Frank's method does not require you to do so, it just makes it easier for most people. At 3:44 Frank explains that you can use your thumb instead. In fact, that is how he demonstrates the throw, he does not use his teeth..
      I try to close my net before it hits the bottom, or else you pick up all sorts of junk. I never had any "mud" in my mouth. And a little saltwater doesn't bother me.
      Regardless, I can only suggest you use whatever method works best for you. Obviously, this is not the one.

      +Fishing Long Island that's what she said, but what the hell does temp has to do with anything. If u want excuse, the only way the net would get stiff is by not rising it with fresh water after usages for months. This is a brand new net. I just got home from castneting for 5+ hours and come home with this bs excuse. LoL talking about pussified generation.

    • @derpherpp
      @derpherpp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fishing Long Island and yes I actually tried this technique. you will get less messy but doesn't open all the way. It's because the net easily get tangled baile lines inside since it's on the ground and he lines crossed, and the other half they he didn't sort on the left is most likely tangled, so you're ended up throwing tangled or uneven net that never open all the way. This is why he's the only that use this, or maybe couple other. LoL u won't see fishermen use this for sure.

    • @FishingLongIsland
      @FishingLongIsland 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dude I am just saying maybe being indoors is harder to get a full swing on the net. I never said the net was harder. No need to get all pumped up. I hate when guys get all tough behind a computer screen. Come fishing with me one day and toss all ya like. Frank has his techniques as I have mine which are both different. Plain and simple, if you do not like a video just move on.

    • @chasintailtv
      @chasintailtv  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Frank mentions in the video (4:02) that he feels it s better to have a large net open only partially, rather than a little net open fully. That was part of his demonstration.
      I never thew a cast net before in my life, using his technique I was able to almost fully open a 10' net on my second try in the video. The key was holding back that pinky finger.
      Frank's nets are unique. He has plastic stiffeners around the whole outer rim of the net, I am sure that helps. As soon as I have a few extra bucks, I am planning to buy one.
      That said, if his technique was not useful to you, so be it. There are plenty of other methods you can try.
