    I know this video is a couple of years old, but if you still come back to read the comments once in a while I wanted to let you know that I've been throwing a cast net for about 15 years, with the old net in mouth, tossing net over the shoulder & getting all wet technique.
    I've watched 10 -12 different videos by different people, and out of all the ones I've seen yours are the simplest, easiest, & best.
    Always hated putting it in my teeth & getting soaking wet, thank you very much. Liked both your videos & subscribed.

    Dude, I gotta tell you. I have been struggling with a net for years, literally years of half moons and bananas. Watched this video three times, went out in the yard and fourth cast... pancake. Thought I just got lucky so I loaded up and... pancake. Tried long toss... pancake. Tried short toss at my feet... pancake. I am sold on your method. Thanks for the video. Now to go get some shrimp...
    Looking forward to trying this method on my 12 ft net...

    I recently bought an 8ft Ultra Spreader (like yours). I get full circle flat spreads with my 4 and 6 foot nets but have had a devil of a time spreading the 8ft. I've tried so many techniques that wouldn't work for me. I'm 80 years old and very thin so strength isn't my strong point. Your way did it for me. After 3 or 4 practice tries I'm throwing consistent pancakes with it now. Thanks loads.

      I found a video a month ago, I'm now able to throw a 10ft net and opens fully every time. All the videos I have ever watched are about technique, the one I found a month ago is the most simple you dont have to have technique you just toss it.. most important is how its held. One of the best instructors and using much simpler methods than others. Two points: 1. It would be better if your camera were a little further back so I can see ALL the lead line. 2.. Using the "like a frisbee throw" is confusing. 99% of frisbee throwing is an underhanded, palm up, from the chest out, throw. You are referring to the outside, palm down long distance frisbee throw done only by serious frisbee throwers. This is confusing to the audience. Otherwise, one of the best instructions I've seen.

    • @AnglingWithAlex
      @AnglingWithAlex  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not 100% sure what your asking specifically here so I'll guess what your asking and try to answer. As long as the lead isn't interfering with the main part of the net coming out of your hand you should be fine.

    Question. At 7:20 he grabs one lead line and puts it in his rt. hand. Then he grabs one far one and then one near one. At 5:01 he grabs the NEAR one and then the far one. Both net throws made a reasonable circle when it landed. Which method is the best? I've tried it both ways and I'm still doing something wrong. Which is best? The near one then the far one or far one and then the near one?

    • @AnglingWithAlex
      @AnglingWithAlex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually start with near. I realize I did it both ways in this video and it actually won't affect the throw either way. You are still grabbing the same amount of net. It shouldn't matter on the throw though - I've done it both ways with success. Hope it pulls through for you! - Let me know if you have other questions.

    So for best results to do you throw fish feed first to 'chum the water' or do you just cast and hope for a little luck?

    • @AnglingWithAlex
      @AnglingWithAlex  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can do both - depending on what you are trying to catch. Most bait fish like Shad, Herring, Pilchards and other silver sided baitfish can't really be chummed. They are either sight casted to, caught in waters where they are known to be, or marked on a depth finder and then caught that way. Fish like sunfish, bluegill, and shiners can be attracted in with bread and other chums. This is a short list of course but an example none-the-less.

      You can potentially use this with a 10 foot net but I wouldn't recommend it. There are some other better methods for very large nets like these that I dont have much experience with. Unless your netting commercially or for food purposes you dont usually need a 10 ft+ net. Sorry I can't be more help in that regard. I've never needed a net that large so I never learned it.

    I think your method is good. However, one time you say to take the line closet to your body first and then you say take the line furthest from you first.....which is correct?
    Thank you

    I am confused. Nobody noticed a contradiction? At the 5:05 video you say: grab the close line first, the father line next. At 7:22 video you say vice versa: fold the far line first, then do the close line. Which one is correct?

      Several comments have picked up on this. Sorry for not being clear but it actually wont matter which you do - which I failed to specify. Try both and see which works best for you and let me know!

    I noticed that in one throw you grab the front lead first then the back lead. Then in another section, you do the opposite and wondering if the order really makes a difference?

    I had a net I couldn't throw. Did you method and still couldn't throw it. I looked at the guy lines and they were all jumbled up when the net was hanging straight. Pulled the guy lines tight and squeezed the net had so they had tension on them. Then followed the instructions. I watched a lot of videos, Everyone says to make sure the lines aren't tangled but not say to make them hang straight.

      @@AnglingWithAlex I get the technique, but I get confused close or far, and how many times so was paying close attention.
      At 4:50, "gonna grab closet, then far - then make bundle
      "
      7:25, you say "far one in hand, close one in hand, then make bundle
      "
      Which is it?

      @AnglingWithAlex  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisntab Ah I think I see what you are saying. It actually doesn't matter the order for this part. You can do either of these 2 thing for example:
      1. Close
      2. Far
      3. Bundle of Close
      or
      1. Far
      2. Close
      3. Bundle of Close.
      Sorry if that was confusing. Either method will work exactly the same. Hope that helps!

    It's a 6ft walmart net . They never open fully because of the poor quality and diameter of the lead line . What I see with them is most people I mean adults is they over power the net when they throw making the net start closing before it gets to the water . Simply because the lead line diameter is to small . Making it to weak to hold the net open long enough to get to the water .

    • @AnglingWithAlex
      @AnglingWithAlex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I see people over throwing way too much. Let the leads do the work - not your arm!
