Hi! Nice review. Bought this as my first Rolex in 2016, from official dealer. I had to wait for it a couple of weeks, but nothing like today. And I even got, something around 400euros discount, imagine that :D I was not THAT deep in the watches back then as I am now, so the ''hatred'' for this model in the watchcommunity came as a suprise to me back then. But, I could not care less if some, or most Rolex fans don't like it, or even hate it. The 116900 still has lot's of fans too, and for me, it's the perfect Rolex. They did many things right with the new Air-King, but at the same time it lost ''that something'' that made 116900 pretty unique. Well, enjoy yours with pride, I for sure will do that with mine ;)

I know the AirKing is a marmite watch and despite what people say about it especially rhe ref 116900, I do love mine and I actually bought mine after the 126900 was released, so I consciously chose the older one. Sure the lumed 369 is an improvement but I just love the elegant Milgauss case of the 116900 and also the 55-5 on the dial stay true to the dashboard instrument of the Bloodhound project car which was the original inspiration for the dial of this watch.
Everyone "wants" the new model. But the last time I checked Chrono24, the Series 11 was more expensive than the Series 12, despite both being brand new. I found this fact quite curious. Putting a 0 in front seems ridiculous to me. And abandoning the old case for the new one also seems like a step backward. I understand that the lume is better in the new one, but I love the shapes created at night by the triangle and the hands on the Series 11. If they don’t stop production of this version, the Series 11 will always be the first that came out. The price it had seems to me to be the most reasonable in the brand. And finally, I’ve never seen one on someone else’s wrist, and I doubt I ever will.

First I thought the Air-King was a replacement for my wish to own a 16570 Explorer II. Now I think it’s better to have this modern Rolex instead of the beautiful but „less well constructed“ old Explorer II. All the best!
I have both old and new one. Very hard to puck. Old one look more classy but new one look more sporty with crown guard that's all i can say. I like them both.
Funny, I'm actually thinking of trading my omega speedmaster 3861 for this Rolex Air-king, the omega has definitely went down in value but Rolex doesn't ever really seem to have that problem!!!
I ptefer the new one myslef , i did like the old one and still do before the new one came out though, many didnt. The new one should still use the milgaus case even though it doenst need it , i do prefer that case to the new one .

@@Eliehbk In my opinion it should still work fairly well. It may not be as elegant as a smaller diameter, but still look sporty and not oversized.
