    I just want to give my opinion about performance. I'm still using OG pixel xl, 2016. All I can say is, day to day task is flawless, browsing, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp, etc. That's a 4 years old phone. Snapdragon 730 is 19% faster/better performance than Snapdragon 821 which OG pixel xl has. I think Pixel 4a can handle 3-4 years without a noticeable hiccup

    • @OfficialFedHater
      @OfficialFedHater 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's similar to the processor in my 2XL in performance, and I have zero issues with mine.
      But on top of having a slight performance upgrade in a few areas, the chip is way better on power usage which is the biggest upgrade imo.

    • @5131992patrick
      @5131992patrick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I 100% agree, the Snapdragon 730G is actually a high end mid tier processor tuned towards good performance overall. It might not be able to hold its own againt the newer 8 series chips, but it can definitely hit well above many old 8 series chips. I've been using the 730G in Poco X2 for quite sometime now, and it can easily punch in 120hz with ease in all supported apps and games ( not many are there though). In the pixels case, it doesn't even have to push that many frames per second!! So it will be more than capable for atleast an year

      It's not just the processor/chipset performance which will benefit 4a compared to its predecessors, it's the storage as well. 4a's storage is UFS 2.1 which is considerably faster than eMMC. Analogy: 2 PCs having same processor but one with HDD n the other with SSD, u will see a world of difference.

      10000%. I destroyed my pixel 2 and have been temporarily using an iphone to see if i can switch - nope. Hate it. One of the reasons is the facial recognition and the lack of fingerprint reader. Even before we had to wear masks / when im at home its so frustrating; i could pick up my pixel from any angle with any finger on the back. I have to look at my iphone 3 times to unlock it.

    My new Pixel 4a arrived on August 21, and I am really thrilled with it.
    While setting up a new phone can be a total PIA logging into many apps, and trying to recall user names and passwords, I am already impressed with the speed and ease of use compared to the Galaxy s7 it's replacing. The absence of bloatware is refreshing, it reminds me of my Motorola Moto X 2nd generation (it's still in my desk drawer), which used almost pure Android.
    I like that it has the same overall dimensions as the Galaxy s7, and fits nicely in a shirt pocket. If I need a larger screen, I can pick up my tablet.
    Another feature that works great is the fingerprint sensor. It's crazy good and repeatable. A single fingerprint registered on the Pixel is way better than the sensor on the S7, which was very hit and miss even with multiple fingerprints of the same finger registered.
    A new feature for me is Google lens. My wife is always sending me out to the garden for herbs which I will never learn to identify. She said "use your new phone," which I did, took a photo of what I thought was the correct plant using Google lens, and it identified it as "basil," how cool is that?
    I have been getting well over 7 hours of screen time, with about 25% battery remaining, and have never run out of battery.
    I will admit that the screen could be a bit brighter outdoors in the sun, but I didn't really have any major issues with it.
    I thought I would miss wireless charging, but the USB C port makes it easy to insert a plug even in the dark. It charges very fast, and considering that the battery has been lasting me a full day, I am ok without wireless charging.
    The call screening function is a great feature making unwanted callers go away.
    There are two things I wish it had. First is an IP rating. My Galaxy S7 has it, and I remember spilling wine all over it a few years ago, and washing it out in the kitchen sink. The S7 never skipped a beat.
    The second is when using the camera on the S7, all I needed to do was say "shoot," and it took a photo. None of that "hey Google" stuff. That feature on the S7 is really convenient and fast when holding the phone at awkward angles, and I miss it a lot.
    Another nit to pick is the pixel does not appear to fast charge with my many Qualcomm compatible fast chargers of which I have a bunch. This really sucks.
    After cracking the screen on my S7, I bought a tempered glass screen protector, and what has to be the slickest best fitting case I have ever run across. It's a Caseology Parallax, and I will never use any other case going forward. The way the case fits puts it in a class by itself.
    As many reviews have said, it's a basic phone with everything you need, and devoid of the many frills most folks seldom use, and with the few exceptions mentioned above, that works for me.

I only need a good enough battery, a headphone jack and some decent and easy software experience. Currently have a Huawei P20 Pro and love it but at over 2 years old I am feeling it is time for a change, however I can't forego google services and don't want to have to side load all of those apps, I want them native to the device. As such, Huawei is now unfortunately off the table. (Real shame as they are cracking devices - we have had 6 in our house in total)
    iphone... I'll never willingly buy or use an apple device.
    I really like the Nord, however too many people are complaining about colour/tinting issues with the display, so don't want to risk that.
    After looking at the pixel 4a reviews A LOT in the last week or so, my name is now on the list to be notified when stock is available and I REALLY hope I can bag one before they sell out!
    Plastic (actually, polycarbonate - certainly not just "plastic") construction is absolutely not a problem for me. Probably way more durable than the fancy materials on high end devices.
    Mid range chipset? Not one reviewer has provided any real negatives about the phone in day to day use. You don't actually NEED all the power in the high end chipsets.
    The camera is a little disappointing in that I really wanted a wide angle option on my next device, however, the positives of the pixel camera more than make up for it. On the odd occasion I want wide angle, I'll just have to hope that I remembered my little wide lens adoptor!
    Pixel 4a - I'm in!

So talking about a new phone like the 4a that might not make the cut in several years means you are not talking to those of us that are like me. The 4a could very well be my phone for 6 to 8 years, you see a phone to many is like a tool that's used only when needed, I have several hammers but don't go around hitting stuff all day long with them, I only use them when they are needed not when I have nothing else to do, just saying. who doesn't have wireless headphones these days? just get some at wallmart. even if you have some 1000$ headphones with wire that you don't want to replace, the convenience of not having to always put in the thing into the phone and not having some long ass wire dangling around is just such a superior experience.

    I have a 2.5 years old Xiaomi Mi A1 that stills hold up quite well. It has a Snapdragon 625 chipset which was kind of a mid range chipset at the time (I consider 730 upper mid range chip which was not the case for 625 at the time). My phone still works fast enough for social media apps, email clients, web browsing etc. I'm sure that latest flagships open those apps noticeably faster but in the grand scheme of things you're not really saving a lot of time if it's a matter of second or two difference at worse. My point is, most popular apps are very optimised and mid range chipsets passed the point of critical performance level for these apps a few years ago. I don't think that 730 chipset/performance will be the problem in 4 years. I think that Google stopping updates is the bigger concern, regardless of their generally good track record with providing updates to their phones.

    I would go with the Pixel 4a. It is only gotten more improved from the Pixel 3a, which I wanted at the time. Anyway, I decided to still keep on using my iPhone 6S until it broke. From there, I got an iPhone 8. By this time, I wanted something cheap, but I wanted a new phone. There were rumors that the Pixel 4a was going to be released soon. Keep in mind, this was in May! I did not want to get an old phone if a new one was coming out soon. This was also before the iPhone SE came out and the OnePlus Nord! Aaaah! Since I did not want to wait for a long period of time without a phone, so I would be able to reach my friends and more importantly my family, especially parents, I bought a phone released 2 years ago, because that was quite frankly, the only significantly cheap option on the market, was from a company I trusted and was not preposterously big in size. (More than 6 1/4 in. of screen or too small like below 4 3/4 inches!) HAHA
    I know, this is really specific, but I am very cautious about the investments I make, because typically I will hold on them for anywhere from 2 - 6 years! Seeing the Pixel 4a, in all its glory, it is annoying, plus with the accompaniment of the iPhone SE, it made me regret my decisions, but here we are. Also, the OnePlus Nord is not available in the U.S.A., so yeah.

    people have said this phone's cpu is approx ~19% stronger than the older flagship snapdragon 820 which can certainly still get the job done. It's actually stronger in single core vs the snapdragon 845 I've read too. Weaker gpu vs the flagship cpu's is the big deal with the 730 cpu in this phone. As someone who genuinely doesn't game and doesn't foresee myself being a serious mobile gamer, I don't need a mobile bleeding edge gpu. I honestly only care about good looking point and shoot pictures/selfies, which this phone does amazing. Truth be told, I would go iphone but the SE doesn't have night mode on the camera where the pixel does, that was actually more of a deciding factor for me than price/storage/headphone jack. A close friend irl uses a cheap Xiaomi ~$200 phone with a snapdragon 660, 64gb storage, 4gb ram and heavily games and streams music/does social media/multitasks and that phone I dare say was smoother in irl usage than my flagship LG V35 with snapdragon 845, 64gb storage, and 6gb ram, and when I taught them about going to dev options to turn animation scale, etc to 0.5x speed they said the phone became TOO fast LOL, so if a 660 cpu is that good, this 730 certainly can be.

Had a Samsung prior and it went downhill within months. My biggest concern with the 4a is battery life over time, given that the battery is fairly small. Still, my low to mid range options are limited in Canada. I'll probably get the 4a when it launches, you couldn't pay me to switch to Apple lol

    People in India would straight forward to Pixel 4a just if they could get the pricing checked here as iPhone and Pixel once imported to India has to face heavy taxes they eventually enter the premium price. iPhone for say costs whopping 42500 Rupees which is a premium price and same would happen with Pixel 4a too, now the price of Nord will eventually be beneficial as it's 28000 Rupees but at the core no one wants to buy the Chinese phones anymore in India.

    I cancelled my order of the 4a after having the 3a for over a year. Towards that last month of use after a year it was noticably slower than other phones I was around. I would do simple things like check my email and that took an extra second, then spotify an extra second, then maps an extra second. Take a picture 3 seconds. All this slowness after a year. I picked up the OnePlus 8 and it's speed just blew me away. I know they aren't in the same bracket competing but going back to a slug after holding speed I coughed up the extra cash.
