Chris this is not the ending music, even in vanilla.

28:00 I would say "modern" hard Celeste mods tend to explore mechanics, techs, and clever setups. The rooms are designed to maximize the adrenaline hit. Sure the techs might be hard to pull off but the inputs won't feel janky. D-sides are relatively light on the techs but the intricacy and fine movements are what make the rooms hard, it's like, "you need to tap a bit left here but not too much," "no you can't full send this jump," "here do a weird maneuver around these spinners while you're falling," and such. It's hard to get good at judging fine distance/cycles by eye, more so if the intended frame window is also really small, so the rooms are really hard to get consistent, making many of the rooms feeling like dice rolls all over the place. This might just be me getting skill issue'd but that's at least why I feel D-sides are "less fun to play" so to speak.

I feel like it's just a different difficulty style that less people enjoy. Personally I love the micro adjustments and fine control because it feels like most levels don't test you on that (or they do, but it's stuff like atone or moce, which are clearly different from the way the D Sides do it, because none of the precision in the D sides is really pixel/frame perfect)

7:16 I think that’s the idea - you do it once the hard way, and if you choke the ending, you get to do it in an easier way
It’s sorta like when you die at the very end of a room but you reach the change respawn trigger so you respawn at the end - you feel like you messed it up, but you get to then do a much easier thing the second time around

I get what you mean about finding some of the D-side gameplay not fun, and that's why I'm watching these videos instead of playing it myself!
It's true though, I can't quite put my finger on it either, something about the non-flowiness of it. I did play 1-8D and weirdly, I don't think 7D suffers from it as much which is why it's my favourite of the maps, and overall I did find 1-8D fun. I know there are some people that really really love 9D, and maybe the appeal itself is that the gameplay isn't quite "normal" or standard, so it has an extra layer of problem solving attached to it? That's my guess anyway.
Also dream hypers were taught in 2D and used in 7D too, so them appearing in 9D makes sense.

9d is also supposed to get better the further in you get.

I guess you are taught to dream hyper in 2D, but that's a long time ago.
For this keyhub room, I think the design is to have farewell theme + one of 1~8 chapter theme for each key, but I skipped some of this because 1. I have more keys than enough, 2. I really don't like some of the rooms.
