- Can this Greatsword main learn the Switch Axe in 5 difficult hunts? Each hunt will feature a poll, where my VIEWERS will be deciding which monster I hunt! Will they have mercy, or will they make me suffer? My fate is in their hands!

seeing someone who never uses the weapon use it is so entertaining. it reminds me of when i was first lesrning switch axe. a quick tip though, if you want to reload quickly, if you like reloading in general, press right trigger after rolling/jumping of a ledge or jumping out of a slide. itll do a quick reload right into the availability of sword mode

- You're forced into a recharge if your Energy is bellow 30% and try to Morph (it turns purple and the icon turns into an Axe), but you can do it quicker if you do it in the air, or if you time it with a monster roar or anything that flinches or knocks you back (the recharge occurs very early in the animation, the rest is just fluff).
- Morph attacks from Sword to Axe recharge a lil bit of your gauge, so you can regain all your energy by just spamming Morph attacks into Morph attacks. It's not very good dps wise, you're expected to do more Morphs during your combos and move around in Axe Mode for the auto-recharge.
- Elemental Discharges, and in consequence ZSDs, start quicker after any horizontal attack (Circle attacks in Sword Mode).
- Maybe you know, maybe you don't, but Power Axe (Red aura after Heavy Slam) increases partbreak and tripping damage, but not actual damage. It's stupid, I know. But it's useful for cutting tails as the Axe can reach pretty far away with its vertical attacks. I also like mounting with Axe more.
- The first hit of a Vertical Sword attack (Triangle), that overhead slash, can move you forwards slightly if you hold your movement stick while doing the command. You stay practically still for every other attack if you don't.
- Slinger Bursts can be done after almost any Axe attack and it aims wherever you point your Left Stick torwards, and you can continue attacking afterwards, so you can do 180ºs with stones or whatever else without needing to stop attacking. Do it in midst a Wild Swing (Circle Spam infinite attack) and you'll be thrown way back, but still be able to do that spinning Morph Slash to get back.
- After any Axe attack besides Wild Swing, you can hold Back and Press Circle and you do a big ass leap backwards. It's very useful to get out of sudden attacks you might not be able to evade from, or when you get pushed out of a place you want to hit because that STUPID ASS DRAGON DOESN'T STOP MOVING IT'S FREAKING HEAD WHEN IT'S DOWN!
- Hold Back and Morph from Sword into Axe and you get this big sweep with some movement backwards. It's the furtherst you're gonna travel during Sword Mode. Still counts as an Axe attack, so no Mind's Eye+Phial+Amped shenanigans.
- And this I'm not sure, but I think you can still do a ZSD if you clutch into a monster while you have Amped mode but not enough Energy to Morph. I tend not to spam ZSD or have my Energy at near 0 so it could've been just a coincidence.
For some more opiniated commentary:
- Rise/Sunbreak reuses practically the entire World/Iceborne moveset aside from Clutch and Slinger attacks, but overall controls better and has a way more balanced Amped mode that not only amplifies Axe now, but also changes the speed in which you gain and lose it based on Phial type. So the OP Power Phials take a long time and last little, and those shitty Paralysis, Exhaust, Dragon and the somewhat good Elemental Phials recharge much quicker and last longer. There's also new, extremely strong Morph attacks that get even stronger and faster with Quick Morph (what a Godsend of a skill for SA).
- 5th Gen SA is NOTHING like 3rd and 4th Gen SA. While Axe attacks were kinda just rearranged in base World, Sword Mode became completely different. There was no Amped State, no Heavenward Flurry bs (which I swear only serves to lock you into a long, weak attack in trade of some extra Amped gauge), no ZSD, and there were exactly 2 very precise vertical attacks and 2 horizontal that you could infinitely chain together however you wanted (these attacks were soft reworked in 4th Gen, with the addition of the Double Slash, still very precise)
- And regardless of which game you're in, Evade Distance and Evade Extender are amazing skills to have. Specially in 5th Gen as they decided to nerf the already short Sword Mode dodges. Ev. Distance is more for an easier time moving and it's fun to use in SA. Extender is where it's at.

I've been playing more SA since this video, and have gotten way more competent at it. I love doing Axe Mode shenanigans for that extra breaking power + tripping damage. It's a lot more fun when you mix it up like that, even if ZSD is the best dps-wise.

I sometimes think about recommending the weapon to my friends because "it's easy", but when I think about it there's so many little details tucked into the deceivingly simple moveset. Basically a not very difficult weapon to learn all commands, but there's so much going on in execution.
You can get away by spamming Double Slashes into ZSD in World/Borne, but it's such a terrific feeling face-gluing onto a monster, completely defenceless with a big hulking weapon and just dancing out of attacks while also attacking back as if you're made of adrenaline and gas.
Honestly Rise lowkey fixed SwAxe.
Rapid morph, 2 stage slash, Foward Slash and just better controls.

It is not, for me at least.
For jho tender the belly, claw on to the legs so your zsd does damage to the belly.
You can break the head of Shara with power axe mod easily, just up swing. Be sure that the head is tender, too!

if he knew you could brace/jump around the monster during a mount so your stamina doesnt go down as fast he probably couldve downed the deviljho 😭
Some monsters have moves that requires you to brace instead of jump, and if you read the situation wrong and jump when you have to brace, you're gauranteed a crap ton of stamina loss XD

Your not the only one that find this weapon hard to use. Iv tried it all the games cause it looks dope but iv never gelled with it. Even with evade extender it feels so cluncky
It was really weird - it felt very clunky at first, like in this video, but then one day it suddenly "clicked" out of nowhere, and began feeling like a totally different weapon to me.
I don't know what the heck happened - it was a VERY sudden change, like over the course of a single Tempered Brachy hunt I did off-stream. But I've been enjoying Swaxe a lot more since then lol
Did you tried on Rise? You should, the weapon is much better there with Rapid Morph.

Anyways, i remembered (somehow) that deviljho could carry anjanath with it's mouth, but i want someone to confirm if this was or not (i remembered it from the deviljho and anjanath encounter)
