Hey guys after playing all the games again i just wanted to make this video quick. its just an opinion so if you disagree its cool lmk what area you like more. #pikmin #review
Fun fact; the forest navel is, together with the impact site, the only 2 areas in all of mainline pikmin that do not feature a single grub-dog enemy. P.D: Blossoming arcadia doesn't feature grub-dogs in the overworld, but they are all chilling in their cave so whatever.
I really the forest of hope from Pikmin 3, because the second half opens up and becomes a completely new level with the water area. Same with the valley of repose. I do really like the idea of the twilight river, with the river changing the level, and I do find unlocking a second area to be a cool idea, but I agree that the execution isn’t the best. The snowy area in Pikmin 3 is really strong in the beginning (my favourite part of the game), where you have to join Alph and Britney, but the cave area makes it waaay to big later on.
Interesting opinions, but I like the presentation, and I find it generally understandable most of the time, so, good work, hope the video gets more attention. And, personally, I don’t really dislike any of the areas in the main series (I played Hey Pikmin only once), so, it's really about picking my least favorite to explore or something when it comes to that.
@displayland1988 You're welcome. And, fair enough, if I had to say my favorites and least favorites from the top of my head, it'd probably be like Pikmin 1 Best: Forest of Hope Worst: The Final Trial Pikmin 2 Best: Awakening Wood Worst: Valley of Repose Pikmin 3 Best: Tropical Wilds Worst: Formidable Oak(???) (Pikmin 3 is hard to pick for.) Pikmin 4 Best: Serene Shores Worst: Primordial Thicket As said, don't even dislike any of the areas.
Pikmin 1: My most favorite is the Forest Naval. It has a great ominous vibe, my favorite of all the bosses, and great music. Not a lot to complain about. My least favorite is the Distant Spring. Trying to navigate this area with any squad that isn't entirely composed of blues feels cramped as hell because of how much water there is. Pikmin 2: My most favorite is the Valley of Repose. You do have to open the area up with blues first, but when you do, it feels very open and rewarding to explore. My least favorite is the caves. Not only are less than 1/3rd of them fun to explore, but they almost single-handedly represent everything I despise about playing Pikmin 2. If I had to pick just one cave as my least favorite, then I'd probably choose the Dream Den, although both the Subterranean Complex and the Hole of Heroes come very close to usurping that title. Pikmin 3: My most favorite is the Twilight River. Love the autumn vibes it gives off, it feel rewarding to master dandori in this area in particular, and the go here function largely mitigates the waiting. My least favorite is the Formidable Oak because it is the shortest area in a game where none of the areas have any significant problems in my opinion. Pikmin 4: To be honest, I just straight up agree with what was said in the video. No extra notes.
Yea i always like when pikmin games ad autumn vibe maps that's definitely a cool part of twilight river also having 3 captains makes the waiting not as bad
Here are my favorite and least favorite areas in each pikmin game Pikmin 1 Best: Forest Navel. The music and atmosphere is really unique and I enjoy trying to find out when to use bombs and which areas and shortcuts to open up first. Worst: Impact Site. This is a very obvious choice, I don't hate the impact site but it's just so small and shallow that it's hard to like it. Pikmin 2 Best: Perplexing Pool. Again the music and atmosphere really sells this areas environment, but what really elevate this to top tier status is the amazing cave selection. Worst: Valley of Repose. This is definitely my favorite least favorite area, and it was close between this and the awakening wood. But this area suffers from taking a long time for your pikmin to open up the rest of the area, as well as it being a long walk to the caves. I do enjoy said caves though. Pikmin 3 Best: Formidable Oak. Cry about it. Going through this area quickly is a blast and it's interesting trying to work out when to grab bomb rocks to delete the final boss. Also again the music and atmosphere is really strong. Worst: Twilight River. I despise the lily pads, and the way the area is structured makes trying to blitz through it a nightmare. The only reason I don't completely hate this area is yet again the music and atmosphere. Why does it keep coming back... Pikmin 4 (base game) Best: Serene Shores. It has a unique gimmick that doesn't make me want to eat bomb rocks, and has the best cave selection in the game. Worst: Sun-Speckled Terrace. It is very boring and generic, has no good caves, and feels sluggish to get through because of baby oatchi. Pikmin 4 (shipwreck tale) Best: Blossoming Arcadia. It has a strong identity with its heavy use of fire starters and moss, and has the best song in all of pikmin 4. Worst: Hero's Hideaway. The Gildemander really ruins the flow of this area.
My brief review of every area in 1-3: Pikmin 1: Impact Site: Actually a really well done tutorial, and having to come back to it later is the game's way of making you take a breather. I like it. Forest of Hope: Super fun to do blueless. Great area, good at easing you in. Forest Navel (Best): Knowing what walls are worth breaking is a great skill check. Great music, two cool bosses, the Libra puzzle, taking on the breadbug while getting blues... My favorite area in the series. Distant Spring: Ok in the Switch version, hate it in the others because the Bulbears push so many Pikmin through the floor. The enemies aren't fun to fight. Low-mid. Final Trial (Worst): The lead up to the boss is really simple. The boss sucks in every version outside the original GCN release. Yellows don't drop their bombs when whistled anymore so you have to either sacrifice them or count on their AI to time throwing the bomb correctly. Gross. Pikmin 2: Valley of Repose (Best): Flawed layout, the base is too far away from the real meat of the area, the other side of the bridge. You spend too much time walking. But, planning around this and completing the revisit in one day is a blast. I like it overall. Awakening Wood: It's fine. Perplexing Pool: It's also fine. Glutton's Kitchen and Submerged Castle are the most inspired caves in the game. Overworld is nothing special. Wistful Wild (Worst): High highs and low lows. Love the caves; I've played the game so many times that they're the only ones that really challenge me anymore. Overworld has fantastic music/atmosphere. Overworld is also small and too quick and easy to clear out, except for... the Doomsday Apparatus. This thing is the single worst part of Pikmin 2, it warps the game around its existence by making you hoard and farm purples. Screw this thing, it absolutely tanks an otherwose pretty good area. Pikmin 3: Tropical Wilds (Best): Great vibe, great music, collecting all the fruit quickly is a lot of fun. Solid. Garden of Hope: It's good, but I personally don't like fighting the Mireclops. Being separated into two parts makes it feel a bit incohesive. Distant Tundra: I love the part where Alph and Brittany are split up. Mid after that. Twilight River: I can see why people don't like the lily pads, but I don't really mind them. I think they're interesting and make the area feel unique. It's a charming area, dull boss though. Formidable Oak (Worst): You either love it or you hate it. I hate it. No 4 rankings atm
I would mostly agree with you here except for I like the distant tundra more than the garden of hope (it’s very close) and I really like the primordial thicket it is one of my favorites. Giants hearth is ok but I think the least fun is the first one because unlike the others it has no unique setting it’s just dirt and some hills and cans and pots.
Here's mine: Pikmin 1 Best - Forest Naval - Love the unique vibe it gives off, feels ominous but entirely manageable and the music here is by far the best theme in the whole game. Worst - Distant Spring - Always dread this area because of how big it is and how spread out everything is. Lots of tough enemies to work through make it a bit of a slog. Pikmin 2 Best - Wistful Wild - Love the vibe, love that it's a challenging area and truly embodies that "final area" feel. Worst - Perplexing Pool - Hate this area. It's never fun to explore, and the caves here in particular are some of the most tedious. Pikmin 3 Best - Twilight River - Again, I like the autumnal vibe, and it has a fair bit going on that you have to work around. Feels very lively. Worst - Formidable Oak - Absolutely HATE this area. It's a miserable slog to go through if you do it the intended way, and the whole gimmick of this place is just plain obnoxious. I never play this area the intended way because of how miserable it is. If this area had an actual buildup to the boss chase, it might have been better, but because it's just the chase sequence, it honestly sucks as a final area. Pikmin 4 Best - Primordial Thicket - The autumnal vibes, mixed with an unsettling atmosphere makes me love this area. It's got alot going on, and truly feels like the most Pikmin area out of all the areas in the game. Worst - Sunspeckled Terrace - Mostly due to the fact that we saw so much of it during the demo of the game, this area has very few enemies, and just doesn't have much going on. It's the least interesting and least memorable place in the game.
@@displayland1988 Yeah, it's definitely the biggest area in the game. Ship parts are pretty spread out, and there's an abundance of enemies that make your expedition a bit trickier.
I totally agree with the primordial thicket being the worst area. All the obstacles feel really tedious to deal with, the enemies are just annoying, especially all the sticky mold. Also wasn't a fan of how the recommended pikmin for that area were the 3 that only do 0.5 damage. Also didn't love the aesthetic.
Personally I love heros hideaway as a concept, but level design wise it's kinda boring there's just not alot going on, way too much flat ground and the high places can be annoying to get to
I agree with you in Pikmin 2 and 4 areas, The Primordial Thicket is bullshit, however I disagree with you on the best area of Pikmin 2, I choose Perplexing Pool because of the music but I like also Valley of Repose
Pikmin 1 Favorite Forest of hope Least favorite impact site Pikmin 2 Favorite valley of repose Least favorite awakening wood Pikmin 3 Favorite tropical wilds Least favorite formidable oak Pikmin 4 Favorite Hero's hideaway Least favorite sun speckled terrace
FINALLY! Someone who actually acknowledges Hey! Pikmin! You sir, are a TRUE pikmin fan!
I always thought this game got to much hate it's solid for what it is

Finally someone that agrees about the valley of repose its also my favorite from pik2
