- James O'Brien reconnects with Shah, a caller he first spoke to seven years ago in the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy.
Shah had been on the phone with his trapped mother when she tragically succumbed to the fumes during the Grenfell Tower fire.
You can watch the moment when James hosted his show live from the shadow of the Grenfell Tower, as he and Shah listened back to that emotional call.
In their latest conversation, James and Shah reflect on the recent inquiry's damning final report, which highlighted 'decades of failure' by the government and others involved.
The inquiry also found that organisations who made and sold the products, used on Grenfell Tower, were “deliberately dishonest”, with one firm - Celotex - said to have manipulated a test on its insulation to “mislead the market”.
Another company - Arconic Architectural Products - which was responsible for manufacturing the cladding panels, was found to have been “determined to exploit weak regulation in the UK” despite recognising the danger they posed.

Wrong. It’s not the system, it’s the culture. There’s a culture of wealth above human life. This is the mindset that the system was born out of.
The dismissal of proven dangers by a certain individual in one of the two cladding manufacturers is WHERE LIABILITY lies. As was made clear in the R4 doc last week - to the effect of 'd'you think I give a flying f'.
I remember listening to the original call and crying in my car. I never forgot the raw pain in Shah’s voice. My mother died in hospital last year and I thought that was the worst pain I could ever feel - but she died in a bed, with her family nearby. I’m not sure I could carry the grief of losing her like Shah lost his mother and aunt.
Shah, you’re a credit to your family. They deserved so much better and I’m so sorry.
We have a system designed to maximise profits. Profits which cost lives.
But that capitalism for you. Everything is a commodity to capitalists. I get the need for money for commodities, but "profit at all costs" is how you make human rights and needs a commodity. Food isn't a commodity, but chocolate is, if you know what I mean.

There won't be any true justice for the victims. The developers, contractors and architects won't be held to account, the money men behind the scenes won't be held to account and you can be sure as sugar that no politicians will be held to account.
The best we can do is carry on the fight, never stop talking about the victims and what they had to endure.
Hearing Shah's original call makes me furious.
We have all become vassals of corporate greed .

Shah's 2017 call to L.B.C about the death of his mother in the Grenfell Tower fire was truly heartbreaking, I listened to it being replayed on the L.B.C James o Brian radio show a few days ago with tears in my eyes.

When profits are at the top of the tree, the little people are at the bottom. I very much doubt, am even sure, those responsible will not face any legal action; probably just some scapegoat the companies drag into the arena.

If the building in slough hadn't also caught fire a few weeks ago would this inquiry even have happened? Or were they scampering to find answers to display to the public before the public started asking real questions about the safety of buildings all around the UK?
Now people aren't horrified about slough. They're not focused on those 300 residents that were displaced and put into the care of a council that is bankrupt. They're focused on a frankly underwhelming inquiry into Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Say the word. Corruption is the word and London is the most corrupt city in the world. That's saying something but it's true and it helps to explain the utter shambles that exists in the UK. It will not change without some kind of revolution.
