    You could try and make a normal swim bait by just putting a larg weighted hook in after you make the lure by cutting a slit and then reheating around the area so it bonds around it or by just heating up the hook and then putting it in

    if you use clear stickytape and tape the template over the shaped wood you can just cut through the template & tape on lines and transfer lines as cuts onto the wood without having to cut out and trace bit by bit

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that could work pretty well on a flatter surfaces. Bait that has contours like mine it might be tricky to get it on without any wriggles and you would have to make 2 of them for both sides. Also i have a feeling that cutting through paper and tape might not be very accurate as they might move and wringgle up when you cut through them.

      we have talked about several months ago but i havent been able to come up with a good collaboration lure that would be interesting for us to make or for you to watch us make. btw melting down plastic household items like bottle caps, milk jugs or soda bottles etc is not really possible as the plastic they are made from does not really like heat it seems. the few experiments i did so far ended with the plastic turning into vile smelling black goo lol

    • @NeoHeo
      @NeoHeo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SolarfallBaits you have to use plastic marked hdpe or with a recycle triangle marked with a 2 in the middle. Then heat it in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius. It won't melt to a running silicone like material it will be more like a thick dough. You then need to put it in a jig and press it really hard until it cools to make surfaces smooth and to get rid of air bubbles. Use that to press blanks that you can carve like hard wood. I'm on my way to try this, my first try was ok but not good enough to upload on youtube. Maybe soon

    Great work man! Can't believe you just cought pike with that bait! Makes you wonder if these sometimes horrendous prices like 30-40€ for a swimbait are really worth it...

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      30-40bucks is pretty reasonable still i think, especially if they are hand made, for chinafantastic lures its a different story.

    Could you skip the silicone and just imprint the lure into playdoh? And then just fill with hot glue and put them together

      I doubt it. But i haven't tried it so i dont know for sure.

    Maybe it would have a better swimming action if you cut the rest of the wire at 21:18, what do you think? Just my impression, I'm sure you have more knowledge on this subject than i do.
    I really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing them!
    Also, the "be free" reference from marling baits was awesome, hahaha!
    Edit: Greetings from Brazil!

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      the hot glue is pretty rigid as it is and the wire does not really have anything to do with the action as this is not a soft plastic bait whichs softness has alot to do with the action they have.
      I think the swimming action is pretty good, you kinda want to have that kind of lazy wobble action when waters start to cool down like they are at this time of the year hear in northern parts of Europe. The biggest impact on a semi rigid bait like this one is the weight, how much you put in and where you put it.

    awesome idea.. After you finish paint it.. did you apply any finish? clear coat, an epoxy finish?

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No i did not, there is no need since the soft plastic paints stick pretty well to the glue.

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@victorj.garcia9861 there is no water based paints for soft plastic painting that i know of. If it was water based it would disolve when i fished with the lures.
