      We are going to try the nail glue
      Is that the same as super glue ?

    Those lures are AWESOME! Whats even better, the lack of over explaining, the absence of annoying noise that some people call “music”, the choice to play natural waves made this video worth watching to the end!!

    As an educator, I plan on using this in the classroom. In Texas, fourth graders are taught how structures and functions enable organisms to survive in their environment. In the case of this bait, SolarBaits uses the structure (form) of an actual prey fish in the construction of the lure that acts (function) like that fish when pulled through the water.
    It's quiet interesting to me how the evolutionary data contained in the shape of a fish can be adopted by humans to catch their predators. Fascinating to consider, and a great summer find for a teacher getting ready for the next school year. Great job SolarBaits, and thank you.

    If you want to use pine tar, you need to process it into pine pitch with some charcoal. It was used on boats and arrows as a waterproof binder so it should work for lures. I'm surrounded by pines and have made some fireproof camp matches with the stuff, it is very sturdy stuff.

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did excatly that in my test and precessed it the way you discribed it. Its an old trick that works for certain stuff but like i mentined in the video i did not think its strong enough lol i guess im paranoid that way

    For future reference, if you mix charcoal with pine resin it will make an extremely strong adhesive. Native Americans used it as a way to secure arrowheads, so it should be more than enough for fishing lures.

    Beautiful work. I love the colors you chose. Something to possibly consider for a deep dive into the genre would be to use natural silver pheasant or undyed mallard or teal... these are all silver/white based. Mid coat the whole bait, then use that as a base for airbrushing..?

    Great idea about the pine bark and feathers , Mikko , .......also enjoyed the bit of information about Finnish lure history .
    Years ago I had also made a few lures sporting those Finnish saddle lips , I had pre-cut the slot also with a saw , but then widenened and deepened the straight slots with a 1,5mm Dremel router bit exactly according to the inner outline and curvature of the lip , this way the lips came to sit quite snug even without beeing finally glued in .
    Best greetings , Dieter

      Hey , Mikko , .....sorry , but I do not think , that I would put up any more videos . I had quit on making lures for quite a while now , because I've lost my enthusiasm somehow .
      Me and my wife went through some hard times during past years having to take care of some seniors in my family that sufferd from dementia , had to live in nursing homes and by now both passed away , .....these were my aunt and my father , both reached their high 80s .
      These headaches obviously left deep scars on our mental well-being , also because we barely received assistance from other family members .
      Also the present political and social situation in Germany and in Europe has taken away my carefreeness of former years , somehow disallowing me to carry on business as usual and focus my personal attention on different things today , ...I simply can't sleep anymore , while my bed(my fatherland) is burning , so to speak .
      Thanks for asking , anyway , since I have not entirely lost my interest in fishing and luremaking , though , I'm still spending my leisure time at the water's edge .

    Hello Mikko, greetings from Peru...it has passed a lot of time since our last chat.... first at all congratulations for your extraordinary work. Even though it was a 40min video it was very fun to watch it end to end. I wish to have some of those pines woods near to Lima where I live, but I don’t 😔...it was incredible what you did with that tree bark. Since I saw you for the first time working with tree bark many videos ago, I always review trees where I go, but I haven’t found yet what you get. Please tell me what kind of sealer are you using? Did you replaced at all the epoxy coating by the one you used with these lures? Last, don’t you think would be good to add a little weight to give some more action and deeper swimming to the lure?...before to say bye, for the last two years and a little more, I was far away from my fishing hobbies, now I’m trying to re-engage again to work in my home shop and follow Masters like you. Well, thanks a lot for sharing your work and tips, I’m going to r3view and watch all your videos that you were posting along these last two years. Cheers 👋👋👋

      its a shame you guys dont have pine but you could always just use balsa, they have kinda similar properties, altough i think that balsa is little bit more boyant. The lure varnish is on the list i pinnet as a top comment, i still use epoxies but didnt think i needed any for these since the species i was after is not very brutal on the lures, zander kinda gives up fighting really fast, so its not the greatest sport fish but it makes up it in tastyness. I know it does not look it but these lures actually dive pretty deep because of the curved lip i guess, depending on the lenght of line i have out im hitting the bottom at 4meters and actually broke off a lip from one of these. like always thanks for watching Antonio.

    • @antonio999us
      @antonio999us 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Mikko, thanks for answer me... I love your work!!!... I use Balsa wood for my lures and as you state, it is very boyancy. Therefore, weighting it is the way. Given that I don't catch species with long teeth, I will try to use some varnish. I¿m not sure what kind, but I will investigate. Last week I bought Polyurethane. I will try with it. Thanks again, let's keep in touch.

    When we adjusted the bait, did we bend the eye or try and wiggle the lip barely?

    Excellent job. Thank you for sharing. 25 degree is really hot? Haha. It's a nice, cool day where I'm at. Did you ever consider getting a trolling motor for your little boat?

    Beautiful. What kind of weight did you use? Pike taste good too.

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      those weights that i used are the kind where you have 2 prongs that have have plastic sleeve on them and you just pin your line between the prongs, i dont know if there is any spesific name for these type of weights, my brother bought a big batch of these from a guy who makes these in his garage.

    Ceao.Idea with feathers are brilliant. I have a question: where to find the lips for lures (scatter lips). Thanks.

    • @SolarfallBaits
      @SolarfallBaits  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can find saddle lips in pretty much every fishing store here in Finland i dont know if any of them ship outside of finland. Samfishing and Vaapputarvike have a good selection of different lips, you could always ask them.
