Having taken a number of long trips, the 2.4 gallon tank is about perfect, because it makes you take a break every 1.5 hours or so. Those breaks are important for maintaining focus.
I carry a 1 liter camping fuel bottle full of gas. I put fuel stabilizer in the gas, and just put it under the seat and forget about it. On two occasions I couldn’t find a gas station when I needed it, and that 1 liter of gas was enough to keep me going long enough to re-fuel.

As for potholes and the 12" wheels, don't forget that the Vespa has a trailing link suspension, from Piaggio's WWII days manufacturing landing gear for airplanes that would sometimes land in grassy fields. The trailing link suspension pulls the front wheel, rather than pushing it; so it can more easily handle bumps and holes than bikes with larger diameter wheels.

The Real Vespas did anyway these modern ones are nowhere near as good as the real vespas from the 60's and definitely not compared to the original 40's models the best thing about the modern version of the Vespa is honestly the electrical and the 12" wheels.

Glad you like the Vespa. As a senior citizen, I am unable to wrestle a motorcycle, so scooters are the answer. Ten years ago, I got a deal on a used Honda 150i, and I love it! Smooth ride, very maneuverable, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled engine and auto tranny. Oh, it’s made in Italy! Safe riding!

I've got a Yamaha Smax (155cc scooter). It's surprisingly freeway capable for how small it is, and I've taken many multi hour trips on it. 11k miles later, still loving the bike. I've got a Burgman 650 for the bigger trips now, but the Smax never disappoints for its utility, speed capability, and ease of riding.

Great video. I have the GTS 300 HPE Supertech and have just completed a 1,500 km tour of the north Island of New Zealand. There were fantastic backroads as well as motorways to contend with and no problem at all with the 12" wheels. It felt stable and safe and I could easily cruise at 100-120kph....so, don't worry on that issue. I had a rack and a pretty big bag strapped to the back too. It makes a brilliant touring machine.

I can't wait to get this! My car lease ends mid-December '23, and I live in Southern California, where the weather is super conducive to 2-wheel transportation. Plus, lane splitting is legal, which is a HUGE luxury for dealing with our gridlock. And HOV access. I can't really see a downside.

Super little scooter and a great video too! Thanks for that! I named my Vespa GTS 300 "Hercules", because he's so big and strong. My wife and adult children think I'm nuts naming everything, cars, boats, bikes, etc. but that's just the way I do things. I've been riding motorcycles for 40 years, some big, some small, and my little 2021 Vespa GTS Super is the most fun of all! Your little bike is awesome and I love the classic red stripe! Safe riding. The new maxi scooters are very difficult to find, I was lucky to get the 2022 Suzuki Burgman 200, it’s a fantastic scooter with decent freeway speed. I was thinking about getting a Vespa 300 but the lighter weight and the smaller wheels were all concerns when traveling on the freeway, then there’s the cost. You have to be careful when considering a scooter for freeway travel, a big engine does not automatically equal safety. Also, due to speed limiters the Vespa 300 has a top speed of 85mph. I reached 75 on my Burgman 200, that’s all I attempted, it was very stable too.

If you're worried about losing the key, get a spare from Scooter West. Their video on how to "pair" or program the key is pretty straightforward and really well done. You can get the key cut at a good local locksmith for really cheap. Sure it's going to be a $50 spare, but better to lose the spare and keep the originals safe.

I just bought the exact same scooter you have. Same model etc 2 weeks ago. Just put over 100 miles on it learning to ride. I just turned 71, am 6'7", and weight 260 lbs. Never had a bike before. Because of the bottle neck with our economy right now I bought this because it happened to be in stock but the more I researched the scooter world I realized this was a gem and high quality. My 74 year old brother has a Piaggio BV 250 in Toronto for 14 years and still loves ridding frequently. I will say that the cost of ownership will be higher because of Vespa's more frequent maintenance schedules with more items at each iteration also. I added a matching top box when I bought mine here at the Downers Grove Illinois shop. That holds my full size helmet and more. Today I just installed a large windshield/windscreen for the fall season as we're getting cold around here in Illinois. Love the way it handles and keeps me warmer on the body and hands even with that large of an addition. Enjoy the ride and thanks for publishing this. I'm with ya!

If you’ve ever ridden away with the side stand down, you’ll discover it on your first left turn, just before you hit the pavement. Also the click sound on the Buddy scooters is terrific because leaving your turn signal on accidentally ( super easy with no audible feedback) is really dangerous because it can encourage other drivers to pull out in front of you, potentially leading to a crash. It’s amazing how many motorcycle review videos show the rider going straight down the road with his or her turn signal on. Both the side stand kill switch and blinker clicks actually can save you from a crash. I know this from many years of riding motorcycles that had neither. That’s an awesome looking Vespa!

Love your videos! So informative! I'm once again tossing idea around of buying a Vespa 300. Was going to buy one 5 years ago but spouse passed suddenly and well I had to adjust. Fast forward I'm back in market now! Live in rural area only 14 miles to work on highway. You give me hope! And I seem to be on track as I have scheduled a motorcycle course first, and have tried out the Vespa at dealership and in parking lot.
And like you the 12" wheels are my only concern.

I apologize for the delay here, but that’s so incredibly exciting!! When is your class scheduled? The more I ride the 300, the better I feel going anywhere on it! I do still avoid the interstate, but it’s the texters at high rates of speed that scare me much more than the tire size .

I switched from 11 inch wheel scooter to 16 inch because of pot holes.
I ride in all weather and at night too.
If you are riding mainly in good weather on good roads. 12 inch wheels won't be a problem, especially if you don't ride at night.
If you can see a hole, you can often avoid it or slow down or at least brace yourself (put pressure on your legs).
But at night and in heavy rain you often know about the hole when you hit it!
I think everyone should have a scooter, it's like a two wheeled car, particular if you get a screen. Good luck!

Congrats! Regarding opening the glove box, I don't know if this is something they have changed over the years, but I have a 2014 GTS and I don't have to have the key in the ignition to open the glove box. I can just push inward on the entire ignition mechanism with my finger and the glove box will open (as long as it's not in the "locked" position). Give it a try. And you're absolutely right, the underseat storage really should fit a full face helmet, especially for the size. The underseat on my teensy 2002 Yamaha Vino 50 fit a full face fercripessake! When you're ready to fork out even more ridiculous money for accessories, the large top case does comfortably fit a full face (mine has room left over for gloves , a cover, and a light rain jacket). And if you decide to go that route, I recommend removing the lock from the top case and taking it to a locksmith to have it rey-keyed so the ignition key will open it. It's definitely worth the $10. It'll save you having to carry around 2 keys for the next ten years.

I'm from France so there's a way bigger market scooters here but I encountered the same issue as you did. Being that if you want anything bigger than a 125cc you'll get into the maxi scooter category with the like of Yamaha Tmax, Honda Forza 750 and BMW C650 which are all land yacht compared to a traditional scooter like a Vespa.
Personally I have no interest in these and the Vespa 300 is appealing because it stands out without any competition. And you're absolutely right about having a rough idea about what you want to achieve with your next purchase.

Love this video! My bike is the same year racing green version of this model. When I heard your comment about you forgetting to cancel the turn signal, the mod that fixes that problem is the SignalMinder SM-2. I'm sure Scooterwest has them. It is an auto cancelling unit for the turn signal as well as giving you four way running lights and light flashing when the brake is applied. You have to modify the turn signal switch which is an easy mod, or Scooterwest will sell you a switch that is already modified to a momentary switch. I have it on my Racing Sixties and I love it. For storage for your helmet, just get the color matched top box that is made for that bike. Finally, for this bike the modified ABS sensor tone wheel is a must. The stock HPE's are speed limited and come from the factory with an inherent speedo error. The after market tone wheel simply replaces the stock one on the rear wheel, eliminates the speedo error and gives you 6 MPH more top end. Your Bianco White Racing Sixties is the bomb straight up!

At around the 9:10 mark I assume you're referring to the Rebel 1100 DCT. I can see how a 1000+ CC engine would seem a bit much especially for a new rider. I actually bought one within a few weeks of completing an MSF course and when first riding it I honestly thought I made a mistake. Fortunately there is a spacious parking lot near my home where I was able to get really familiar with the bike while practicing the low speed maneuvers learned at MSF. After spending about 30 minutes there I decided to just ride it around town even though I was still somewhat nervous. But riding it was an absolute blast!
A big plus, imho, when it comes to that bike is the 3 riding modes: standard, sport, and rain. Since buying it I've only had it on standard mode except the last time I rode when I had it on rain mode (least power, most braking ability and traction control). I enjoyed riding it this way because it felt easier to handle as opposed to standard mode, where the bike is still very much easy to handle. But for any beginner rider who ends up with the 1100 DCT, I would highly recommend using rain mode first because the power just in standard mode can be a bit overwhelming.

You can add aftermarket audible blinkers for the scooter so you can hear the blinking. You can also add a 12v power outlet and UBS power outlet if the scooter doesn't have them. All these 3 are very cheap and easy to install. Just search on Amazon. I installed a 12v power outlet and UBS so I can run a small air compressor that fits under the seat and keep my phone GPS charged. I also carry a tire patch kit. My full face helmet won't fit under my seat either, so I just use the top rack storage.
