    Id bump that needle clip up one position. Might get rid of the midrange bog. Try it out! Get some new fork sleeves and swingarm stickers and and bike will look even better!

    Quick tip, never adjust ur idle with the throttle, always adjust it thru the idle screw on the carb, that's why it's always idling high.

    I love that bike. '85 was my junior year of high school, and I always used to go into the Honda showrooms and drool over the '85 CRs. Those bikes are IMO the most beautiful MXers ever made. Yours sounds really happy with that Pro Circuit pipe and 170 main.

    I just sold my 85, it was 100 % non molested, and fully correct. Had a alternator issue, so I sold it cheap. It was a beast, the 85 500 was even more brutal, I enjoyed riding/racing both!

    I love your channel..I always learn some new.I have a couple of suggestions. Get a small gas tank that you can hang from the ceiling with a shut off so you can run things with out the gas tank in the way.for rusty tanks place a good magnet under the tank on the outside by the peacock to keep rust out of the carb and lastly try using pematex the right stuff instead of silicone..works great for cracked carb boots and everything else..it’s like liquid rubber

  • @vwsandvettes3253
    @vwsandvettes3253 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I heard the best way to get a good plug reading for the main is to put it under load then hit the kill switch at high rpm and check the plug. If you allow it to idle down the pilot takes over and the plug may give a false reading.

    A tip for doing seat covers. Let the cover lay outside in the sun on some hot blacktop for an hour before installing. Makes it nice and pliable.

    Your learning kid. I remember watching some of your videos a year or so ago and you were pretty green. I would sit there shaking my head but I know the deal. You're putting in the work for sure and good content. I've worked on and raced all these types of bikes and quads since the 80's. I actually raced this exact bike pro in California when I was 22. I am restoring another one right now, nestalgia. Anyway, keep in mind just because Pro Circuit or whoever recommends jetting and such they are assuming you have a perfect and fresh top end. When motors get weak jetting changes. In other words, what might have been right with proper compression is no longer right with 40 psi less. You would need to lean out a bit. It's easy to jet those carbs just main jet er till she pukes (riding wide open) then back er down a size. Watch the plug...

    Maybe it’s just esthetically pleasing, but the seat cover really made a difference in making the bike look very nice! Also I saw this on another you tubers channel called time machines, use a magic eraser on the plastics it was impressive! Bike looks great, couple tiny details and it would look immaculate

You ever count how many units you've owned? I'm not easily impressed but iv watch you littering go from a boy to what you are now...Your out here doing it while the rest of the world is talking about it! You do EVERYTHING by yourself to...TH-cam is a full time job alone! Much Respect to you Brother ☝️ ......I had 7-8 employees at one time...18 years later I work by my self in a beautiful shop (I have guys that help when really need them) and hand pick the jobs I want! If I went WOT on pavement with my 79 YZ250 , (I've got a 520A Shinko tire on the rear), I'd be over backwards in an instant. I went up to a 400 main jet and it still wasn't enough, finally bought a new Lectron carb and it runs like brand new and will probably kick anything's but if it would actually hook up and quit spinning the tire! It is literally crazy scary insane...

    That bike hauls some a$$ for sure! The leanness you hear when chopping the throttle can be easily cured by closing the air screw about 1/2 turn or so and drop the idle speed a taste. Your mainjet passes are smooth and sound crisp.

    What happened to the actual CR blue seat that was correct for it? last 5 videos on this it had it and now it has some seat that doesn't even seem to be correct for the bike..haven't even watched much of it yet..I'll bet you still haven't loosened the throttle cable so the choke is probably still open as well as not adjusting the idle on the actual choke on that carb?

    Just some helpful info,but if you switch to ethanol free gas,you wouldn't have to worry about cleaning the carb. It's the ethanol in today's fuels that causes the fuel to go bad so quickly.

      A trick I do for mine is put 4/5$ worth in my car then put the proper amount in the gas jug of course running premium gas if you don’t put the little in your car the stuff in the hose will go into the gas can and most people run regular, stuff is straight shit and is a 2 smoke killer that stuff is

    • @sethnelson8698
      @sethnelson8698 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      personal I run vp or k&s 110 race fuel, because it's consistent. Buy fuel from a gas station is always gonna be different especially if u get ur fuel from different stations. Plus 110burns slower, so it lasts longer. And btw ethanol fuel does leave shit in the carb after sitting for long enough. One thing that u could do is either drain the fuel out of the carbs, or let the bike idle, turn the fuel off, let it run itself out of fuel, and thin ur good👍
