    I learned on one of these on my grandfather's farm - well second bike I ever rode while learning. It was a handful! Not ideal for a first timer at all, but it sure taught me some riding skills. Big tyres were outstanding in mud.

    Whoa!!!!! I'm class of 84.... 55 years old... when I was a kid.
    I had a 4 different Honda 3 wheelers... a 110, 200, a Big Red and the best of all a 250R.. then I had a bunch of four wheelers and motorcycles... never a fat tire, but I have ridden on a couple...

    Love these bikes. My parents have 2 of them. Mom wanted to sell hers. Told her she can only sell it to me. Now she doesn't want to get rid of it. Ill inherit them one day. So many good memories. Used to love finding a hill in the woods and ripping up them or flying through the field and trying to get air at the top of a hill. Get this bike 3 inches off the ground and it feels like 3 feet. Also cool because they do pretty well on packed down snow on snowmobile trails. Just don't drive it through puddles or mud! Great video!

    I still own my Fat Cat that I bought new in 1986. Has a bunch of oem accessories on it since new. Just Don’t remember any oem Hondaline TR200 accessories coming in blue other than the optional handlebar pouch in the 86 catalog. A few aftermarket’s were made and powder coated and sold on eBay though.I still have the title,manual,bill of sale, brochure and shop manual,tool kit and dealer key chain and keys. I buzz around a few times a year with it and still runs new. I’m In upstate New York as well. Need to do an upstate 3 wheeler meet n greet! Lol! Great collection you have. 👍

    I have found that the TLR200 is also pretty dangerous, with how all of the riders' weight is on the back wheel and the front wheel doesn't really get any traction at all. I've landed on my face (literally... and seriously) because my TLR has the tendency to absolutely disappear out from under me and lay its'-self down pretty randomly. I would trade my TLR200 for an XL200 in decent condition if the TLR wasn't something that I got from a friend after he died.

Goes more places than all my buddies on big 4x4 quads, especially in deep snow (the quads high centre). I took my fatcat to the sand dunes in Oregon several years ago. By design a long wheelbase sounds safe but isn't, the front wheel doesn't have enough weight over it, too much rake to the fork and forks should be a tad shorter.

    This is by far and unargumentatively where Yamaha actually built something like Honda and completely got it right. The Yamaha BW was engineered and built very well and the Fat Cat while is good for just putt putt putting around the woods slowly anything more than that and it's a death trap. But hey,, the Honda still looks better LOL. This is all coming from a Yamaha guy. Honestly though if it has an engine and two, three, or a quad I like it. I'm trying to like side by sides but there's too much like automobiles. Now if we're talking about a last year Odyssey or a Honda Pilot then we have something I've always dreamed about having!

    Probably before your time, but Honda use to make ATCs. Like modern day quads, but with only 3 wheels. They were so dangerous the federal government actually banned them. Google it sometime.

      Three wheel ATVs suffered from a conundrum, folks let their children roam on them, often unsupervised. There was an incentive to blame the manufacturer rather than poor choices.
      I loved these machines back in the day, pushed their limits. A major limitation was apparent to any skilled rider. On deceleration, making a hard turn had one normal result, they overturned. Duh.

    • @DougFLTRX
      @DougFLTRX 2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @rolandedrummer9723

    So why are these dangerous? Never really covered that. Remember the three wheelers being flipped back in the day but never heard much about these.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm really just joking about all that. They're a little squirrely at times, but not really dangerous. Everything has some degree of risk/danger involved. The three wheelers definitely were the sacrificial lamb when it comes to that topic. But the "Fat Cats being dangerous" is mainly a running joke with me and some of my buddies.

    • @ThisOldTrike
      @ThisOldTrike  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. When I was 14 I had a blue/white 1991... so I had a soft spot for that particular machine. I found a 1992 a couple years back and bought that... would have preferred a 91 like I had, but I was happy to have it. Then... I did find a 91, but I thought it was cool having both the blue years that I hung on to the 92 also. I've thought about tracking down an 87 & 88, but I was focused on finishing off the three wheeler collection first.

    You are dead wrong I had 2 Honda fat cats , Yam bw200 and tw200 the easies 2 wheeler vehicles to ever ride . They are better rocks , sand , hill climbing than a dirt bike any day . You have to be a much more experience dirt biker to be safer in the same terrain . The three wheelers got all the law suits and because the fat cats had fat tires they drop it to . They just over reacted . I'am now looking for a Yam bw350 it should be perfect with more power .
