"I play for the dubs," had me actually cackling. I do appreciate your perspective on Trials though. As a slightly below average at best Crucible sampler, I hated Trials. It was an exercise in getting my brains kicked in and a weekend of playing would net me a handful of guns and a full swear jar. With the revamp, even though the swear jar is still full and the personal mediocrity is still mediocre, at least walking away with some actual loot. That feels like a win.
@@DattoDoesDestiny When it comes to sniping tips the easiest way is to fake it till you make it. Go for each nasty flick you can go for and you'll soon find it in your muscle memory. I dropped a 20 win streak on trials yesterday and we ended the run because we were hungry.
With all you said, still I would say that the revamp of Trials is still making it more accesable for everytype of player. THAT is a good thing, though Freelance mode would make it the icing of the cake. Like everybody dont have a sponsor financed YT channel and streaming their Flawlessruns every weekend... I say: unmystify Trials and focus on mystifying the main storyline in Destiny again. Its rather the uninspiring main story every season and a bit DLC, thats taken the game to a level of casualFPS stat that its in rather than that Bungie are making PVP more casual....
The thing I learned from this revamp of Trials is you solo queue to just play and get round/game wins and not expecting flawless and you 3 stack to go for hardcore flawless. But at least they made it more open for others and thats fine enough
Same. Zero expectation from me as a solo player to go flawless but it was frustrating getting 0-5 losses over and over after a certain point. I know there must be a lot of other solo players this weekend so no idea how for 6-7 matches in a row I get lined up against stacks.
@@rollind2456 lol same i went 0-12 last night, after 0-6 i just turned off my brain and just played for fun and kind of made a game out of seeing how many times i could lose, i wasnt trying to lose, but i do suck at pvp lol
@@devenkingman9835 my conspiratorial brain had me thinking matchmaking was prioritizing stacks against solos after a certain point lol. Frustrating but I’ll still play future weekends for loot I wouldn’t normally get. Just not going to bang my head against a wall farming it
True that. I’ve been solo queuing and actually got my first few wins in trials but it’s just a pain with no communication and going against busted 3stacks with vex. The only weapons I’ve had luck running efficiently is ace with frozen orbit and chroma rush with null composure.
@@rollind2456 Friday there were more solo on solo matchups. Saturday the 1.4+ K/D players got tired of carrying solos so they started going into stacks and the only ones left solo matchmaking are the sub 1.0 players. The sub 1.4 players are gonna quit this again. I got over 10 engrams Friday solo queueing after 7 wins (no flawless), but since Saturday I have a 4-29 win rate solo queueing and only got the rank up engrams. My last win was after 13 straight losses and that was only because the other team lost a player. Trials bounties are good for XP though so there's that...
As an absolutely shitty pvp player, I’d say that this trials update has been overall really nice. I managed to get to 7 wins by banging my head against a wall but it was surprisingly more fun than I thought. The card based matchmaking is really noticeable, especially at 6-7 wins. It’s been nice to be able to fill out my collection (and finally get those sexy warlock robes) but I’m not sure if I’ll find myself back in the playlist outside of trying to farm good rolls on weapons.
This was my exact experience lol. I stayed on my warlock and managed to get the robes from my second engram. Then switched to hunter. And no, not shatterdive hunter. Skitter knife hunter lol. Wonderful map for it
I am also fairly bad at pvp, and I actually had quite the opposite reaction to trials. I got a seven win card, but it took four hours, with more than an hour spent trying to get that seventh win. I found that the card based matchmaking does not care at all whether you're flawless or not, just that you have six wins. As such, 80% percent of the teams I fought were three stacks, the majority of which went to the lighthouse. It was infuriating, and I did not enjoy really any match beyond my fourth win. That being said, four hours of play time gave me a full armor set (one of which had a good roll), and unlock reeds regret and the smg for focusing later this weekend
@@AlexMorales-qi1yo I didn't think to jump out of loading, but I queue dodge. As soon as I see the number of players in queue jump by 3 I'll leave and requeue. And I still saw mostly three stacks. Doesn't really matter though, since I don't think I'll be queuing solo again. It's just not worth it.
for weapon wise, at least on console/stadia, at least 90% of my games between solo and teams had at least one vex. get ready to fight against vex spam in the future
@@Sixdawg06 I went flawless back to back (thats 14 games won in a row) using nothing but Vex and the deep stone crypt slug shotty and reeds regret. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Vex with the Catalyst gives it crowd control. Vex has 100 aim assistance. Use it on a controller and you can shut down any good player.
@@WoozyBear yah it kinda does. Like it’s literally an event that’s available every week. And we are asking for MORE loot. Wish trials was a more rare event.
Having Rahool take your engrams gives you a chance of getting Trials stuff you haven't got. Ex: This morning I got Solas scar, as well as completing the Titan armor set.
Shout out to all the PVE brothers and sisters that managed to get those flawless, I'm terrible so never had a chance lol. But man I can grind those losses out and get those engrams and levels. Haha
I'm a pve bro. I went flawless with some friends. My advice is get a good sniper with snapshot. I was using an uzume adept and crimson, my friends were using messenger and shotguns, or fusions, practice in elimination with a sniper until you get more comfortable. It helped me a ton. I'm hitting some pretty crispy shots now
When you’re launching solo your goal isn’t going flawless. I’ve spent some weeks 18+hrs without a flawless and with a decent group. So for someone to que solo and actually get 7 wins in under 3 hours is huge and they are heavily rewarded for it. This has been the best trials has ever been in the history of Destiny
My first flawless first attempt was solo this week. Basically had to get every kill every game but it was something I was used to after soloing comp. if ur a solo quer and wanna go flawless u gotta be the hero otherwise u need a group.
Surprisingly I got flawless myself Under 2 hours. Games weren’t steam rolled but it was still good experience. I try my best to adapt to my team and figure out positioning to get the kills secured. I had a lot of fun and this is definitely better version of trials .
Trials solo has been interesting for me, on my fresh card I had probably 10 losses to get to 7 wins. My win/loss is probably the most horrendous ever, even though I have neither the matchmaking matches me with flawless and unbrokens only. Definitely going to try finding a team next week. The rewards are pretty nice though.
I, for one, would love a series of “Datto Gets Güd at Trials” where you team up with CammyCakes and he teaches you to pub stomp. That’d actually help the rest of us trash players learn a lot.
@@hedgehog6041 oh yeah, watching Datto rage in IB was actually pretty entertaining because I do the same. I rarely play PvP because most of the time, it’s ability and shot gun spam
@@JoshsTesla I don't mean to be the "git gud" guy, but the key to playing against shotties is watching your radar and staying out of shotty distance. Back pedaling with a side arm is basically all you have to do to counter a shotgun rusher.
Running Trials as a solo player and getting matched up against 3 stacks feels really bad. Hopefully they add a solo queue playlist. I would play that ish all day. Great content as always good sir 👍🏼
Yeah, I know that feeling. I didn’t do trials originally because I didn’t have a crew. But a freelance playlist is needed. Like once Iron Nanner got its freelance, I started tearing it up. I’m not a bad pvp player, I’m not a good one, I can hold my own. But against a stack, my odds drop considerably. I’m only still in it for the loot. Not to go flawless per say, but gather some fun guns. Got a good roll for Igneos, still farming for a messenger for cruc shenanigans, and a solas for Warmind Cellnanigans
I tried going flawless solo the whole day yesterday and the farthest I got was to 5 wins. After the 5 wins, I start getting matched against 3 stacks. Most of the time, I also get paired up with people who cannot seem to hold their own. Feels bad man.
I don’t think freelance would make sense in trials as trials is SUPPOSED to be the pinnacle of competitive gameplay in Destiny. Trials isn’t easy and was never meant to be so. And making it where the playlist is split would just put trials back in a spot that it had been seasons before.
I think the thing that resonated with me most was the part about expectations. Unless you're a top pvp player, solo flawless should NOT be an expectation. Those people are already playing with teams. As a very average pvp player, the goal was improve my small team engagement skills and earn some loot along the way. For everyone that fits into that category, I think that should be your goal too. Still aspire for flawless but get on comms with a group and focus up for that. But your game to game goal should be just that.
im a super low tier pvp player and i have high expectations to pull off a solo flawless. gone flawless once solo and once with a team so far and have been having a great time. almost anyone can go flawless now!

Use Le Monarque (hope I spelled that right) and arc souls or the arc soul exotic arm piece. (Source: I was slapped around by that combo when trying to use my Vex)
There is a massive difference between playing on Friday and over the weekend. It was VERY good at first, the pool was great, the games got progressively more challenging for me... managed to get it to game 7 twice totally solo without a loss, but always failed to finish it unfortunately. After that, playing on Saturday and Sunday was a horrible experience, as the more casual players stopped playing after completing their bounties and initial rewards from Saint14, and literally every game was against a 3stack and most games ended up in stompfests as usual.
@@dizznotdizzy Foolishly reset the 7 win farming card to give it a try.. after about 5 minutes wait for MM it is clear that only the boosting ppl are playing this early on the card now... yet again stomp stomp stomp
Man you talking about your PvP skill and desire for playing Trials hit me spot on. I got so excited seeing everyone talking about how they finally got their first flawless and the loot improvements. Then I got home from work and proceeded to queue up and get slapped around for a couple hours and I remembered "Oh yeah... I'm not good at this"
I'm glad people went flawless off me going 7-40+. I might have had one game where I had more than a 50% chance of winning but the vast majority of the games were 20-0% chance of winning. Trials isn't for me but I would like more rewards sent my way if I'm going there just to make up the numbers so other people can get better loot.
I was playing with one other person this weekend (As well as some solo rounds) and the joke we kept saying is "When you load into a match against three guys with matching outfits and Mythoclast you've hit the jackpot on the slot machine of having a bad time"
"Is trials too rewarding?" That depends entirely on who you ask. Good players who the changes don't really affect all that much might say yes because the loot may not be as meaningful to them. Others might say no because they are just happy to finally have access to trials loot.
I’ve been watching since before D1. This is easily one of your best videos, Datto. Wanting to win those close and competitive matches is what I want to do the most.

As someone who NEVER played trials I’m glad there is now a way for us “normies” to get trials gear, the trials pinnacle from 50 rounds & 7 wins without resetting your card is a huge incentive to tough it out and hopefully get better in the process. Personally it feels great getting trials gear for the first time ever! Eyes up guardians!
Props to Datto for being a streamer who is real about the streamer experience and being real about his skills. This is the first time I've heard a popular streamer readily admit that he can really only go flawless if he hops in the backpack of some true slayers and the vast majority of us just don't have that luxury. To hear him also admit that he doesn't really get anything out of it was so refreshing when a lot of streamers pretend they're that good and they don't actually need a carry.
Hope bungie adds freelance next week. It’s your rolling or getting rolled mostly by a stack and freelance can let the new players fight in solos and the stacks have a sweat festival each game
@@Unlimited-D-Works So everyone that doesn't have a team should just not play it at all? Trials needed a freelance on this first week to get more people in. Those new people then search for teams to go flawless and the game mode stays alive. They choked and half-baked it again. Trials will be dead again within a few weeks
@@Unlimited-D-Works Iron banner seems to be doing fine. If Bungie wants people to 3 stack than they should stop courting solo and pve players and be content with a small and sweaty trials population.

Bungie: Makes a million warlock exotics based on using rifts Datto: Why are there a bunch of Warlocks using rifts?!?!? Also Arc buddies are popular now because Bottom Stormcaller is in a really good spot and the buddy can help you in a solo engagement especially if your teammates are ass. Getaway Artist made solo queueing a much better experience.
I second and third and fourth everyone remarking about how great an experience this was as a solo player. I had so much fun, and instead of just finishing the bounties, I stayed in and kept playing so I could discover my best loadout-ended up being weapons I never use otherwise, and I feel really good about that-get a better feel for predicting people’s tendencies and play-styles, learn how to adapt to different situations, and just get better as a PvP player. I started out playing pretty badly, and then I had a match where I went 13.0, never died the whole match, and we 5-0’d the other team, which was a stack against us randoms. Overall, I ended up with several 3-4 K/D marches and really began feeling more and more confident that I wouldn’t be a dead weight to my team, especially when I won a couple of close 1v1s. I usually take a break from Destiny 2 on the weekends, or just grind lost sectors to farm exotics for my non-warlock characters. But I’ll be really invested in this. Especially since I want a good Reed’s Regret for finally going solo-flawless in the Prophecy dungeon-which is my personal aspirational goal as a solo player. ALMOST had it two days ago, but died on the final boss encounter. ANYWAY. This is my favorite season of Destiny 2 in a long time, and Trials really ices that cake, big time.
As someone that solo queued to Unbroken, I can't see myself playing Trials week in/week out. It's nice to get some pinnacles while I'm leveling at the start of this season, but there's nothing here that'll draw me in consistently. IMO Bungie isn't going to split a thriving playerbase...if there are plenty of people playing, then there wouldn't be a point to adding freelance. But once solos stop playing trials and the population drops, I can definitely see them doing it as a way to bring people back in. Also, it's gotten worse each day...I went 5-0 on my Titan to start my card on Friday, and after getting both pinnacles on my Titan and Hunter, today's matches on my Warlock have been nothing but straight 3 stacks running all the cheesiest loadouts: WTF? Why is this guy using a trace rifle? Oh, because when his teammate's LeMonarque hits you once you die almost instantly as soon as you turn a corner :/
My worst experience was when I was 1 game off flawless and we matched a team doing a carry with someone at 110+ win streak in trials this season... Then the next game was another carry with 2 guilded flawless players and a rando in their fireteam...
yeah ive been more successful in solo que than in duo or a full stack. ive gone flawless once with a stack and never more than 3 wins on a card with them after but solo on my first ever card this season i got 6 wins with zero losses and i just now got a solo que flawless. trials solo is great!
Another commenter about getting first flawless here. I have to say: I'm actually looking forward to playing Trials every weekend now. As a slightly above average player, though, I totally understand your frustrations with the mode. I also want to be able to get the win against the sweat lords, but I doubt I'll ever have that level of skill. Anyway, it was nice to hear your take, Datto. Enjoy whatever it is you'll be getting up to.
I performed miserably, but I love that Trials is more accessible for a player like me now than its ever been. I feel like all it really needs at this point is freelance.
Playing revamped Trials is the most fun I've had in crucible since Destiny 2 launched. I'm really enjoying it, the only complaint is focusing engrams is a bit too expensive but otherwise I'm really satisfied with the changes.
Maybe Im wrong, and Ill be ok if I am: Population will dwindle fast. Why? People, namely solos, are ok with stomped because they want loot. When they have it they will bail, fast. Second ones to go are the ones that think they will get a easy flawless against solos but are unwilling to play good teams. Once solos are out, this subset will give up. Numbers have gone down a lot since friday, because people already got what they wanted and there are numerous reports that skill creep is on the rise. And then we will be in the same situation as before. Truth is: Trials this weekend is only supported by showering of loot and the solos being stomped by stacks of different skills. While the changes are good they are insufficient. People, no matter how good the loot is, need to feel that they stand a chance. You illustrated this point well. That is incompatible, by definition, with a solos vs stacked playlist. And yes, everybody has defeated a bad stack. But those are not the norm. For much less than that difference console cannot match pc, and the community of ok with that (as I am). A lot of YTs and streamers are raving about the trials changes but I would like to see how many of them played solo for the majority of time. Who is representing the third of players that have made this weekend a good one? Also, its not about going flawless as a solo. That will be always hard. Its the feeling of injustice of being stomped by teams with every advantage on the book (team synergy, comms, often past experience together etc...) and loot only does so much. Thats why a solo playlist is important. It has worked for comp and IB without any big loot incentive (especially for comp) Yes, stacks will have a tougher time than playing generally less skilled, non comm players, but if people think solos and pve players will get stomped for seasons to come they are in for a rude awakening. A solo playlist might salvage some of the people that, in time, will obviously quit.
@@_Fryce_ Yeah, I think they knew what this new system would do (solos v stack). Thats why they announced freelance from the get go. The idea was "if people leave in droves" we can have freelance ready to go next season.
Yeah, pretty much this. Also doesn't help that there isn't too much incentive once you get 7 wins on your card if you aren't playing in a 3 stack. I went flawless with my usual team on friday and today I decided to reset and play solo. Went 7-2 and once I got to the 7 wins it was literally getting matched 90% of the time against 3 stacks with significantly higher k/d than my randoms and most teams had a couple hundred flawless passages. Not sure why bungie feels like that's good match making. Unless you don't mind getting absolutely fucked the vast majority of time for just some rep gains. Either make it so if you lose with a 7 win ticket you still get some trials loot / engrams occasionally or just have some proper matchmaking. People that have a total amount of 25-50 trials games in their life should never get matched against someone that has literally 5000+ games played. Also the vast majority of time when me and my team queued after reaching flawless was against solos. Every 4 or 5 matches we would fight a full 3 stack. Shit is still really scuffed.
@@affinity7012 Had a similar experience. Once I got to 7 wins games were impossible to win solo. And I am a decent player but could not carry 2 (1.9kd on IB and Control, 1.4kd in trials). Matchmaking was serioulsy bad.
I 100% agree. I’d even add that, by splitting the community with a solo trials mode, that the mode isn’t technically “splitting the Trials group of players” cause the solos and duos have had no effect on the Trials community until now. This weekend is an anomaly Bungie created and wants to turn into reality (whatever form that takes) but as you’ve stated, after week 2, 3, 4 etc most, if not all solos / duos will be gone. If that is a hypothetical outcome we all expect to see happen, then running Trials with 2 modes is a win/win in my books even if 1 side doesn’t fully represent the “real” Trials experience. If anything, it might inspire more to push into the 3-stack mode if there are unique rewards (cosmetic or something) to show off.
I played Trials before the revamp, and I despised every second of it, and I am an average/slightly above average PvP player. I played today, and had a genuinely fun time with my buddies, and went Flawless to boot! Excellent job, Bungie!
As a solo, Trials has been a blast. Much more competitive than anything else in Crucible and an actual challenge with good rewards I’ve wanted for a long time (got a pretty much god roll messenger which I’ve wanted for a while now) good move on their part
I literally got a godroll messenger after my team lost the 4th round of a match and were down 4-1 and against 2 supers. We won that game. Literally the game just said "ok, you know what, here, take this and win please"
@@zeeboss7553 ngl it just sounds like you're unlucky. I get solo teammates who are actually good players ~ 1 in every 3 games. In normal elim it's like 1 in every 100, but in trials its been about 1 in every 3.
my trials experience solo was so bad, i had people leave like 4 games in a row, they need to ban people that do that for three hours the first time they do it. then make it 6 then make it the whole weekend the 3rd time
You are right, I played 3 games of Trials where I was the only player against a stacked team because my teammates left, but I still stayed for the points.
i agree with paul tassies statement on this revamp turning trials into one of the most rewarding activities. I went in as a solo and yes i got stomped sometimes but i always felt i was achieving my goal of the next trials engram
My team and I got our first Flawless at our first try on Friday. After playing Trials for almost 2 years in a row, I can say that I really enjoyed the revamp. It feels great to play FINALLY against normal people and not hackers. In LATAM you really used to queue against (at least) 1 cheater per fireteam in every match. To every developer at Bungie: Hey, thank you a lot. I really appreciate it. You guys nailed it.
I got my first flawless this weekend on Saturday soloed all the way. Used the mercy on the seventh match and then played one more and got to the lighthouse. Never thought that would happen.
I love what they’ve done with trials but I really wish u could match based off of your input method so that my PS4 friends playing with me on pc with a controller don’t get matched up against m and k
First time trying trials ever, had 0 exepctations even of winning a round even, but first game i won against other solo players, what a rush of adrenaline, i shut down the game. Get something to relax. Then tried again, and again and again, whole evening playing solo, win some lose more, got LOTS of loot, first engram a shayura's wrath, the only weapon i wanted. This whole experience made me appreciate pvp again!!
Dude, totally got a sub from me! I love how honest you are. Destiny 2 PVP hurts me. It's like getting clapped over and over. I miss when Destiny was new and no one was a sweaty pro.
I said this from the begining, there's ALOT of destiny players that were turned off from trying trials because they needed to find 3 players to play with. The matchmaking made it so much more accessible. I actually got 7 wins this weekend. Incredible.
This could be even more fun if yk shitterdive hunters were toned down a bit. There is *very* little strategy you can do to counter them. It has been and always will be a crutch.
I think trials is perfect right now. The three stacks get their flawlesses, the solos get their loot and trials gear. Freelance shouldn’t be made for trials I don’t think. Solo queue wasn’t made for flawless runs it was made for the people who haven’t got any friends to play trials with and get turned away by lfg teams because of their bad stats. Bungie shouldn’t change it imo
I think it should be a once a month thing, on those days, solos can grind for a flawless once per month, and otherwise they get their loot and get out. What bungie is doing rn is really perfect!
This idea will kill trials again, as soon as pve players get their loot they will be gone and trails will go back to the sweat fest it was before, skill creep will set in and more and more players will leave until it's only the best of the best playing and even they will start to quit as not even they want to sweat every single match if bungie wants trials to succeed theu need to get and keep low skill players and only being able to que against potential 3 stacks isn't going to keep them
I think the reward structure is a bit stingy for solo players. I’m not looking to be getting constant, unceasing engrams no matter what, but for a really bad player, getting no rewards after like 10 rounds against 3-stacks other than seeing that reputation bar tick up slightly feels really disheartening. Getting even a few legendary shards or an engram every 3-5 matches would be nice. I hear from everyone how the reward structure is so much better, but I still feel like I’m getting next to nothing.
We really need to drop the “supposed to be...” logic when it comes to gamemods. Sure, trials is supposed to be played with two other players and with comms, but that has nothing to do with the freelance finding its way into the live game for those who literally can’t do that. Splitting the pool might surely reduce the population of each side (let’s be real, mainly just the stacks one) but it is such a great way for people to be able to acquire trials loot without being at the mercy of the matchmaking. Don’t forget while that is a disadvantage to the solo players, it’s also an advantage to the 3 stacks boiz. So the “supposed to be...” logic is already gone in current trials. People are holding onto a logic system that is already gone from the game and insist on not letting it away even if it helps the game improve in quality of life way. For solos now, trials is basically “let’s get slapped so hard long enough until we get the next rank up” and has no thrill to it at all. But hey, who knows? Bungie already said that the solo is just your tutorial into trials even though they will experiment on freelance. So it can go either way. In my opinion the freelance should be verified as an existing game mode cuz it is such a waste, to go this far into making trials more inviting and not doing it even if it splits the playerbase. It is just such a waste of opportunity.
Seriously though...If all you sweaty trials players want to keep the casuals in the mode, you might wanna dial back on the super toxic behavior. (Shooting corpses, ghosts, bagging, emoting post match) I mean really, A 3 man squad running 5-0 against 3 randos with no comms isn't really all that fucking impressive. Your toxic behavior will quickly kill this mode once casuals get the loot they want, then you guys will be crying the blues about how the player population died after a month. Cheating is nowhere near as rampant as it was, and the loot structure is really enticing for a lot of people who don't live in the crucible. Don't ruin it with your insecure need to flex. Take your win, and move on to the next match. Act like you've done this before.
@@ONYXG9000 toxic behavior has nothing to do with how quickly a match ends. Skilled players will always sweep quickly. My complaint isn't directed at good players, it's directed at toxic players. But I guess you missed that point since your attention span is too short to read a paragraph.

From what I can tell, it seems like the more amount of wins you get on the card, the more likely you are to go against a three stack. I didn't see my first three stack until about 4-5 wins in. If you play solo, I recommend calling it quits after getting 7 wins, any additional challenges & a few rank ups. At least until a Freelance playlist is available. The idea is to have a relatively fun challenge experience as it gets harder as you go up the card, so you end on a high note and you don't stress yourself out because 3 stacks after 7 wins is pretty much a guarantee.
As a mediocre PVP player that generally only plays with one or two friends who avoid PVP like it was an Unstoppable Screeb, I was genuinely dreading going into Trials. Turns out I had a lot of fun. I won more than I was expecting to, and contributed to those wins much more than I expected to. I'm on console, so that may have something to do with this, but three stacks were actually relatively rare, though the ones I hit tore us apart like a 'nipped up cat with tissue paper.
First I want to say thank you for making this video, second my experience has been hell since I got my second win solo. Teammates backing out , constantly playing 3 stacks with vex etc. it’s been terrible so I’ll take little bit of loot and exit the sbmm for solo is crazy I don’t expect to go flawless but damn. Anyway thank you again I’ll just wait for 2042 to have fun again.
Your feelings about being the player that let's your team down and about how you don't want to be carried are exactly how I feel as a bottom 20% player. I'd like to learn but I can't learn if I'm being stomped...other than learning that I should just stick to comp. While it's sad, it's nice to hear that someone as good as you are feels like I do.
Haven’t touched trials since my friends stopped playing a few years ago, so I’m very happy with the changes. Managed to go flawless on Friday too while solo queuing.
From running Trials over the weekend, some personal things I've noticed, it seems that there's almost a sort of separate playlist once you go flawless as once I went flawless with an LFG there was a definite jump in skill level from the people we got matched with, matches going from being not full on sweats to needing to try my hardest and still getting outgunned and teamrushed in most engagements. Mind this wasn't from playing past 7 wins, this was just the experience with any match on any new card after making it to the lighthouse.
There is 100% some sort of separate MM pool for flawless players. My games went from challenging for the most part, to basically impossible after getting a solo flawless. Because who got flawless? All the 3 stacks dodging other 3 stacks. Trials is really going to just die again if they don't do anything to stop that dodging. There's no reason it should be matching 3s against solos anyway.
I had fun with trials for the first time ever this weekend. Given how long it's gonna be I thought I'd be taking a huge break from destiny this season, but it honestly feels like it might be the one I invest the most time grinding in, and trials being fun is definitely gonna contribute to that
I am super curious how the population is going to go for the rest of the season, especially with such an abnormally long one. I feel like there's a possibility that Trials will maintain after the story content wraps up similar to how Trials played a part in keeping interest in the game during the dry periods in D1. I can't say it's the most likely possibility but the sandbox feels relatively great and it is pretty dang rewarding, so who knows?
"I play for the dubs," had me actually cackling. I do appreciate your perspective on Trials though. As a slightly below average at best Crucible sampler, I hated Trials. It was an exercise in getting my brains kicked in and a weekend of playing would net me a handful of guns and a full swear jar. With the revamp, even though the swear jar is still full and the personal mediocrity is still mediocre, at least walking away with some actual loot. That feels like a win.
yup, at least people are getting something out of it instead of just raging at hackers and account sharers.

@@rollind2456 Friday there were more solo on solo matchups. Saturday the 1.4+ K/D players got tired of carrying solos so they started going into stacks and the only ones left solo matchmaking are the sub 1.0 players.
I finally have a reason to get better at pvp

They have stated that they planning on testing a freelance mode to see how it is recieved
I don’t think freelance would make sense in trials as trials is SUPPOSED to be the pinnacle of competitive gameplay in Destiny. Trials isn’t easy and was never meant to be so. And making it where the playlist is split would just put trials back in a spot that it had been seasons before.
@@lukasb.9551 making it where solo players are getting destroyed will also make it where they stop playing and your still only playing with 3 stacks

Then the next game was another carry with 2 guilded flawless players and a rando in their fireteam...
see i disagree the competitive playlist thrives when trials/iron banana isnt around freelance included

I like trials now. People without a good team can get the loot that trials offer. Its a good change of pace
I think this is the best that the game mode has been since D1. I was genuinely having a blast playing this weekend.
Maybe Im wrong, and Ill be ok if I am:
Population will dwindle fast.
Yeah, unfortunately trials will be dead within the next few weeks unless they panic and add a freelance next week or the next
How? It’s so hard to win. The matchmaking makes it that way. 1 out of 10 games you get solo teamates who are actually good players.
@@zeeboss7553 ngl it just sounds like you're unlucky.
I get solo teammates who are actually good players ~ 1 in every 3 games.
In normal elim it's like 1 in every 100, but in trials its been about 1 in every 3.
@@tenacity25 i think you are just very lucky man because most people are having the same issue
@@zeeboss7553 Elim playlist tells me otherwise.
But maybe my luck is wonky, who knows
my trials experience solo was so bad, i had people leave like 4 games in a row, they need to ban people that do that for three hours the first time they do it. then make it 6 then make it the whole weekend the 3rd time
You are right, I played 3 games of Trials where I was the only player against a stacked team because my teammates left, but I still stayed for the points.
i agree with paul tassies statement on this revamp turning trials into one of the most rewarding activities. I went in as a solo and yes i got stomped sometimes but i always felt i was achieving my goal of the next trials engram
That's what I was doing as well, got stopped alot lol but I got some loot 😁
My team and I got our first Flawless at our first try on Friday. After playing Trials for almost 2 years in a row, I can say that I really enjoyed the revamp. It feels great to play FINALLY against normal people and not hackers. In LATAM you really used to queue against (at least) 1 cheater per fireteam in every match.
To every developer at Bungie: Hey, thank you a lot. I really appreciate it. You guys nailed it.
As someone who's not really interested in going flawless, the changes have been nice. Once freelance mode is enabled, it'll be even better.
M&k is not really an issue honestly, im on ps4, and slay people on pc
Yea but m and k has a distinct advantage over controllers so matching you with console players is unfair
It’s nice to finally see a video from a TH-cam who isn’t a pvp god who had a pretty similar experience to me in trials.
If freelance doesn't stay permanent the playlist will go right back to where it was last season. The Stag is why they are sitting in the rift.
I got my first flawless too, it felt really good to set foot in the lighthouse for the first time
First time trying trials ever, had 0 exepctations even of winning a round even, but first game i won against other solo players, what a rush of adrenaline, i shut down the game. Get something to relax. Then tried again, and again and again, whole evening playing solo, win some lose more, got LOTS of loot, first engram a shayura's wrath, the only weapon i wanted. This whole experience made me appreciate pvp again!!
Got my first light house ever.... then I did a confidence card and got that to. It feels really nice.
Ahh, gone are the days of people making lfgs to throw trials matches so they can get their engram and leave.
It was fun while it lasted lol
I got my first flawless runs this weekend- playing with a hard carry, me, and a gamer using a trackpad on his macbook. It was fun.
In my head canon Saint 14 revamped trials to honor osiris in a way while he's still missing
Mind you this is HEAD CANON aka not true at all
Dude, totally got a sub from me! I love how honest you are. Destiny 2 PVP hurts me. It's like getting clapped over and over. I miss when Destiny was new and no one was a sweaty pro.
Went flawless first time ever in destiny’s franchise yesterday with randoms no mic felt so good getting adept loot!!
“I need to git gud” Datto, you’re such a mood and I love it
I said this from the begining, there's ALOT of destiny players that were turned off from trying trials because they needed to find 3 players to play with. The matchmaking made it so much more accessible. I actually got 7 wins this weekend. Incredible.
Remember, datto’s thoughts once led us to sunseting.
This could be even more fun if yk shitterdive hunters were toned down a bit. There is *very* little strategy you can do to counter them. It has been and always will be a crutch.
Absolutely spot on video. Thank you.
Bungie shouldn’t change it imo
i dont feel like there is a reason not to tbh, the option should be there at the least
I'm not getting anything other than cores :)
Trials rework is so great that I hope we get engram focused drops from the other playlists too
We really need to drop the “supposed to be...” logic when it comes to gamemods.
Went flawless on my first ever ticket in d2, thanks for this bungie.
And ur paragraph is the response they look for but to be honest I’d rather them do it so the game ends quicker lol
That’s such a small minority of trials players, they did it to get to you and it worked
@@ONYXG9000 toxic behavior has nothing to do with how quickly a match ends. Skilled players will always sweep quickly. My complaint isn't directed at good players, it's directed at toxic players. But I guess you missed that point since your attention span is too short to read a paragraph.
@@TimScott1111 well I guess a toxic player is where ever u go then
Hope u have a great day hypocrite
@@fort809 It may be your experience that's it's a small number of players. It has not been mine. I've solo qued all afternoon, and have been constantly matched against 3-man squads that play that way. Hence the post.
Masterful commentary. Feel your pain Datto!
went flawless on my first attempt SOLO. trials being open to solo players has made going flawless so much easier for experienced players and teams. that’s the only issue i found
Yeah sure you did lmao
@@the_emo_alex why would i lie lol
@@the_emo_alex he's not lying. A LOT of people went flawless for the first time this season. It's extremely easy now.
@@the_emo_alex by ‘solo’ i mean not in a fire team. i still had teammates i just went in by myself no mic or anything
@@the_emo_alex i’ve done it as a duo with 2 different friends. Solo Queue flawless is definitely possible but in no way intended. Once you get past the first 2-4 wins your teammates feel more competent
Okay Datto when are we getting the "GM with Brim" video/stream?
WTF is the point of Solo Queue if your put against premades?!?! Bungie come on 🤣😆
I did some solo queue. Whenever I saw even one person on the other team with mythoclast and nobody on my team with it, I left that match. Since it was a loss anyway.
I even got double mythoclast in the enamy Team (all in one Clan and all stasis hunter) we got claped in under 5 min. (I play on consol witch dont make it better we dont have matchmaking and anti cheat)
@@LichtJackal I played against a three stack where each person had a mythoclast on their team. Shortest game ever.
With the amount of arc souls running around one of my random teammates pulled out the riskrunner and was smoking them it was great to see.
I just got my first ever flawless today in 6 and a half years. I'm loving it currently.
It would be amazing content and a learning experience for the Datto and the watcher if Jez and Datto did a collab weekly series on getting better in pvp where the goal is for datto to be able to carry others into the lighthouse please. Would love to see someone similar to my skill level get coached
The conclusion was THE FEELS exactly.. well said Datto!
Great insight Datto, my experience has been very similar, and I'm pretty sure he was using clips of me trying to snipe 😆😆
They finally made Trials playable and fun.
When does Gambit get the same treatment?
Maybe some day
Have they confirmed there gonna do an iron banner rework in a future season? If it’s on the same level as this rework very excited
Oh I hope so
They just said “in a future season” so it’s either next dlc or after the dlc that’s 5-6 months away. The next 6 IB are gonna feel even more outdated cause trials got an upgrade before it ironbanner one of the most popular events is lagging behind
I got flawless way back in trials of the nine, never since. Logged in today, booted trials for the meme and flawlessed effortlessly, kinda wild tbh.
As well the rift situation is because of the stag, im pretty sure if you combine it with stasis resist you might survive an agressive sniper
I got my first flawless playing with revamped trials, and I had a blast. I actually had fun playing trials with the revamp.
Datto and esoterickk are the only destiny youtubers you need. I remember when you first started. Now look at you💯💯👍👍 🔥 🔥
Your feelings about being the player that let's your team down and about how you don't want to be carried are exactly how I feel as a bottom 20% player. I'd like to learn but I can't learn if I'm being stomped...other than learning that I should just stick to comp. While it's sad, it's nice to hear that someone as good as you are feels like I do.
What do you mean? Vex Mythoclast's hidden perk allows you to win 90% more trials games.
Haven’t touched trials since my friends stopped playing a few years ago, so I’m very happy with the changes. Managed to go flawless on Friday too while solo queuing.
"I should put the sniper down and pick up a coloring book.."😭🤣😭🤣😭
You're not alone bro I'm with you! Nothing but respect for your honesty
Given how long it's gonna be I thought I'd be taking a huge break from destiny this season, but it honestly feels like it might be the one I invest the most time grinding in, and trials being fun is definitely gonna contribute to that
This is an “I feel you, homie” kind of feeling I’ve gotten from the entire freelance section
