Agreed, I don't really care if it's a little bit thicker but with more battery life. I love those bezels though, but I wish they would thin them out just a couple bit.
I am so sick of youtubers moaning about the lack of SD card reader. Yes for someone who makes videos it sucks but this is a GAMING laptop. I can't remember the last time I used an SD card.
“Ugh no SD card reader next laptop “oh my god why does everyone care about the SD card reader “ oh I want to look at my pictures” well just buy those connectors that you plug into the I believe USB 3.0 and there you go $20 is like nothing If you want this laptop.
What I hate is the fact that they still have this giant screen bezel. Notebooks like the xps 15 and the gigabyte aero 15 have a lot more screen space with the same size. Razer was revolutionary when they introduced it, but by now others have caught up
For those reading the comments who are interested in buying this, you can undervolt the CPU to reduce temps AND fan noise. most people are under volting -.100mv are seeing -10c or more temps and then the fans will do less work. Keep in mind undervolting will actually improve battery life AND not cost you anything in performance.
Have you tried undervolting the CPU? Should quiet down the fans especially under load. With Intel XTU it isn't too much of a deal and can not only quiet down the device but improve battery life as well.
Take a look at The Gigabyte Aero 15. It pretty much solves all of the problems that you mentioned, $1900 model gets a 512 gb ssd with an extra bay for further expansion, 5mm bezels, a number pad, a sd card reader, and even 2 sodimm ram slots. The only gripes I have are that the screen is TN instead of IPS and that the build is plastic instead of aluminum.
I have the 6GB 970m variant and I love it. The only reason I never bought a gaming laptop in the past was the inability to upgrade the GPU at it's price point, but my dream laptop (14" Blade) was the first to introduce external GPU via Thunderbolt. I am waiting for the days I start hearing...."SLI-ghtly larger than a dime" and "1.5x the battery life" oh and "Gel-cooled and fan-free"
What? Thats almost 10% increase, which at that price makes it perfectly reasonable (if they were released simultaneously). That being said, it's also a year later so it should be the same price.
I'm a bit surprised it even managed that, when I did CPU only benchmarks between the 6700HQ and 7700HQ the difference was so slim, to me the extra $100 for that doesn't seem worth it just based on my own testing.
Great video! I have recently reapplied thermal paste and updated the bios and fan curve via the updates on Razer’s site and what a difference that made :) I love this thing!
I have the 2015 Blade 14, I hate the fan noise so much. It is terrible when you're in class and you want to do more than write a word document. It's so stupid how the 2017 model is the same thing.
Loved the video guys! Was honestly a really helpful review, as I'm currently trying to find a new laptop for a friend. He plays games, as well as edits photos/videos on the side for cash. Seeing this new model out, I was curious as to how it performed, but none of the other places I watch had a review out yet
I was looking for a gaming notebook to get in the next few months, and I'm disappointed to see that Razer hasn't really made major improvements to last year's model or given me any other reason to consider the blade
Dear Razer, please adress the following issues; 1) lower the price by a hundred dollars or two 2) It is 2017 and thin bezels are possible. Turn this laptop into a 14.5"-15" laptop, whilst retaining the same physical footprint. 3) Fix the god damn logo; i.e. remove it or make it less tacky. This beautiful laptop is a precise copy of a macbook pro, but the mac has a stylish logo, not a gamery three-headed snake. I would gladly use a razer blade for work if it didn't look so childish with that logo. 4) SD-card slot, please 5) Start making more regional versions. I wanna buy one with Nordic keyboard!
I agree with all those points. Specifically #2 and #4. The physical size of the laptop is perfect, the keyboard, trackpad, and speaker layout are great. The only problem is to make smaller bezels they either need to make the physical size smaller (which would mess up the layout), or add a larger screen (which I prefer) but that might be hard to find a manufacturer who makes 14.5" displays. Also just add an SD Card slot PLEASE
The first point ain't valid. Razer wouldn't have to lower their prices. If we can't afford it, for sure that we are not their target customers. About the logo part, just use it. Have some confidence. I did a few presentations and I am proud when people ask me about my laptop.
Aazeez Othman The first point is valid. The laptop is a fair bit over priced (however not ridiculously over priced like the macbook pro). They raised the price with 100 dollars compared to last year and essentially only tweaked the fans and changed to kaby lake. Should be the same price as last year then. And as Eber pointed out, their pricing for storage drives is also quite bonkers.
GiltBrick Gaming LG can make anything you ask for. They produce the infinity panels for Dell, and the bezelless 18:9 panel for their LG G6 amongst other things. I am not sure, but I believe they still are the main suppliers of panels for Apple, but I am not sure.
I think you're missing the point of the laptop as a whole. 1) 1900$, really too expensive ? Yeah kinda, you're obviously paying a premium but it's not totally unjustified. For this price you get a great looking computer, very sleek, with an amazing build quality: it's light weighted, light for a gaming laptop and has a great aluminum body. They engineered a super thin laptop that still has more guts than your average gaming PC (since a majority of people are still using older gen and this mobile 1060's perf are similar to the ones of a 970). 2) Is the update pointless ? No, clearly it's not. In a gaming set of mind, of course you're only gaining about 5FPS which is not enough to justify the pricing. But it's also a more efficient processor to render videos if that's what you're doing and globally it increases the battery life, which is great since this gaming laptop is ACTUALLY PORTABLE so you can take it to the lecture hall without looking like a huge dork with your obnoxious obese gaming laptop, and chances are your battery life is going to as good or better. 3) 256Go is stupid and not enough Yes it's low, but as you said it's easy enough to upgrade it for a 1To SSD (it's basically unscrew 5 screws, swap disk and you're done). Also if you have an external drive (maybe using the usb C connector to be even faster ?) you can just install your essentials on the SSD and the rest on the external drive (Like overwatch, Dota 2, counter strike GO, skyrim and Heartstone on your SSD and all the battlefields and Doom goes on the drive). In conclusion, it's one of the few gaming laptop that doesn't make compromises, it's sleek, light, looks and feels great, battery holds up enough for a few lectures during which you can play battlefield 1 with amazing FPS because of the great hardware you have. But since the machine won't make compromises, then you'll have to: it's gonna cost you.
Yogi7X TV I bought a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville for $1000 with only 106,000 miles on it. With regular oil changes and general maintenance it still runs great.
surprising you made the point of lack of SD for creators, but yet you did not give any credit to have a 4k panel for creation. it seems to me, I could be wrong of course, the 4k panel is a plus for creators. no?
Not necessarily, especially considering the drawbacks. Namely power consumption/battery life and the 1060 not really being able to drive that resolution well. It's definitely a differently story with desktops since you can get a more powerful card, power consumption is a non issue and you already have a ton of screen real estate to work with.
I dont get the argument of 1060 not able to drive that resolution; the stealth has a 4k panel with integrated graphics! of course, I am not saying gaming at 4k, but video, photo editing is what I had in mind.
I think razer won't bother bringing more variety to the blade. Their aim is to get the best experience you can get in that form factor. And adding variations would not be benefitial in their terms in my opinion. But I would love to see those function buttons light up while also some tuning with the internal fans. The thing shouldn't even be bothered to spin its fans in daily tasks such as web browsing and stuff. Although I highly doubt that there will be a refresh to the design, we could use some thinner bezels as that is the trend in 2017. And I would love to have an option for a 1080p touchscreen but that probably won't happen.
would love a gigabit ethernet port, i reckon it can still fit in the chassis if they use the folding port design. damn shame they couldnt fit a xx70 series gfx card in there like the previous models
I bought the 256GB option on my 2016 Blade Stealth because I knew I would upgrade the SSD to an aftermarket performance part and there was no option to buy the device without a hard drive. Thankful I didn't have to waste money on a 512GB unit.
Just got the new Alienware 13 R3, and although it's thicker and heavier than the Razer Blade, it's much more easily upgradeable (second M.2 slot which I populated with a Crucial 1.1TB SSD for like 260 bucks). Great battery life. No fan noise at low loads. Can turn off the backlighting completely, and rocks a GTX 1060 and i7-7700HQ for only 1500 bucks as I have mine configured. (opted for the faster 256GB NVMe SSD, vs the standard 180GB SATA based one)
Why is bezels such a big deal to many people? I'm upgrading my lenovo ideapad (i play games on it) to this. Hoping they go on sale after thanks giving though :).
It's minimalist design is the reason why I bought one. Why fix it if it ain't broken? For a person who don't like red accent, Razer's laptop is a perfect one. I don't game much but having extra power when I need it is really helpful. The fan noise can be annoying sometimes though
add more exhaust on the side and more heat sink, redesign the heat pipes, and there is more. intel coffee lake has been released and this processor and maybe this new gen processor makes more heat or more cool?? using max-q maybe more good enough
obvious point to make, at 2:21 you missspoke. the razer blade has as much storage expansion capability as the XPs 15, namely a single M2 NVME compatible slot. but more important, calling the XPS 15 a gaming laptop is a joke I think. insufficient cooling and paltry 1050 does not make it a gaming laptop. and for consistency, people make fun of the razer blade 4k or 3k panel because the 1060 cannot play at that resolution; yet, the same people cannot stop praising the 4k panel in the XPS which has a 1050 GTX graphics card mind you!
Most the people criticising here are more than likely just salty because they can't afford this. Is this perfect? No. Is it worth upgrading from the 2016 version? Not really. But as someone who just updated from the 2015 version that had the 970M card and an i7-4720HQ processor, the difference is like night and day. I love the keyboard and how portable this - So much more so than the Alienware 13 R3 which I owned previously for a month or so.
The new GIGABYTE Aero 15 with GTX 1060 is a better alternative for the thin gaming laptop space with the super slim bezel, better trackpad, and not so prone to fingerprint smudges.
4:00 Well, that's what they get for copying the MacBook. I never liked the on hinge exhaust, Its meant for lower power systems. A similar notebook, the Aero 14, also has one, as the Blade its a loud machine. Question: is the wrist rest sharp?
If you have an issue with the storage, you can use a portable HDD and store your Steam Library there, instead of paying 100+ dollars for a little more sotrage in the SSD.
Great review, especially like the cameo at the end. Very torn between getting this, the Aero 14 or the Aorus x3 plus v7. I also like the design of the MSI stealth pro, which seems to have much better cooling than the those 3, but the battery life is terrible.
Treebsquire I also had this problem, don't get the GS63VR I repeat don't get the GS63VR, the build quality is not great for its price, get the Aero 14 or Alienware 13 R3 OLED, The Alienware is amazing!
The Alienware 13's very tempting but you can't configure it on the Dell site in the UK to have the 1080p display (don't like glossy/touch screens). It amazes me how far we've come with technology in the last 10 years and yet we still can't get a decent cooling solution on a thin/light 14/15 inch laptop
Aiman Hilmi Yeah, I've nearly ordered it so many times :) Saw a review today though and the fan noise was over 60 decibels under load, which is too loud for me.
Dear Razer, please adress the following issues; 1) Slim bezels & resolution 2) fan noise / Better Cooling, NO THROTTLING AT ALL 3) A new premium classy looking Logo
oke so i want to get a blade by september. the thing is, should i wait for the late 2017 model since it might have increased performance with the nvidia's max q technology (it would be cool to have a 1070 in there)?
1tb PCIE storage isn't cheap, that's not their fault. Apple's 1tb nand flash is about the same damage but man oh man is it fast. Dual 512gb m.2 modules under raid might save some dollars and run faster.
hey bro awesome video i m going to start youtube this summer and ur video and background music is nice which one is it , i have a pentium computer it works but iwant a laptop setup for youtube, studies, some gaming ,it would be nice if u suggest me some and keep doing the great work👍👍👍👍
I've been using my 2013 razer blade they were first released. It's been an incredible machine for the past 4 years with me. But as time goes on, I just hate those bezels more and more... I think I'll not upgrade my machine till they fix those bezels
I have this laptop (2017 Razer Blade 14 with Intel 7700HQ - GTX1060, model: RZ09-01953) and was wondering if I could switch out the storage for 2 TB capacity. I wasn't sure what the max this laptop allows. Thank you!
Only razor product thats ever been worth the buy was my 2010 (or was it 12 or 13?) Ouroboros gaming mouse. Sleek barebones and responsive. Runs beautifully to this day. No complaints. Only thing they got down is mouse game. My brothers headset broke super quick
4:03 I was waiting to hear the pilot announce the weather conditions and the landing time
Offensive Comment 😂😂😂😂
0:16 yeah youre really using a mouse on that concrete slab
1) fix the logo
2) battery life
3) bezel & resolution
4) fan noise
Agreed, I don't really care if it's a little bit thicker but with more battery life. I love those bezels though, but I wish they would thin them out just a couple bit.
I am so sick of youtubers moaning about the lack of SD card reader. Yes for someone who makes videos it sucks but this is a GAMING laptop. I can't remember the last time I used an SD card.
If only it has SD card, I would've bought it.
You do realise a lot of content creators use gaming laptops for their work? Think before you talk
“Ugh no SD card reader next laptop “oh my god why does everyone care about the SD card reader “ oh I want to look at my pictures” well just buy those connectors that you plug into the I believe USB 3.0 and there you go $20 is like nothing If you want this laptop.
Fennec Besixdouze Roasted! Your comment is on point, sir.
If you are buying this, buy it on Microsoft.com using education prices. Gives you almost 200$ off. Your welcome :)
You sir is genius.
Prickled Panda yeah I ordered one recently! Got one day shipping for 15$ cuz why not :)
Sadly not in Germany.
not to mention $99 for a WAY better 2year support system over Razer CS. very glad I went this route with my Blade
bro I salute you
We NEED more Eber & Dmitri joint presentations!
Great thumbnail! Is that natural light or was it edited in?
look at all their thumbnails. All of them have that added light in
Man, you forgot about an important thing:
RAM frequency on new blade is 2400Mhz against the previous 2133Mhz.
I think that should be mentioned.
What I hate is the fact that they still have this giant screen bezel. Notebooks like the xps 15 and the gigabyte aero 15 have a lot more screen space with the same size. Razer was revolutionary when they introduced it, but by now others have caught up
I have been waited for this video for so long, thanks for posting the review video, love your channel!!!
Thanks for having the format and taking shots at Razer, they've earned it :)
IMO there should be an option for a quad core i5 and a 1050 ti for the gamer on the go with a tighter budget. I think those would sell a lot.
Fan noise, and high temps can easily be fixed by undervolting the CPU, I'd HIGHLY suggest doing so when picking one of these up.
He said unfortunately the look was the same, but I honestly liked the look of the Razer Blade 14 no matter how old the design gets. Just my opinion
Have you tried undervolting the CPU? Should quiet down the fans especially under load. With Intel XTU it isn't too much of a deal and can not only quiet down the device but improve battery life as well.

Good review. Appreciate your candidness.
Love the Eber videos, his voice his soo relaxing.
Watching this is 2021 and Eber really fixed himself. Great job!
100 dollars for a 6 fps increase? Really?
Matthew Templo ikr. Marketing bs
What? Thats almost 10% increase, which at that price makes it perfectly reasonable (if they were released simultaneously). That being said, it's also a year later so it should be the same price.

Matthew Templo to be fair they are different laptops (Metabox vs Razer) so the cooling of the two would have some effect on the results.
Just Razer being Razer lol
Great video! I have recently reapplied thermal paste and updated the bios and fan curve via the updates on Razer’s site and what a difference that made :) I love this thing!
That Slo MO!
+Danny Winget yeah man ;) the GH5 is hot 🔥🔥🔥
+HardwareCanucks what is his name who hosting this video?

I hope they can fix that fan noise soon over software updates.
Has Razer addressed the heating/melting issues with thier laptops? These things get so hot that it can warp the housing of the laptop.
never been this early... never tap a notification this fast. Where are u notification squad??
Dear Razer, please adress the following issues;
1) lower the price by a hundred dollars or two
2) It is 2017 and thin bezels are possible.
4) SD-card slot, please
5) Start making more regional versions. I wanna buy one with Nordic keyboard!
I agree with all those points. Specifically #2 and #4.
The physical size of the laptop is perfect, the keyboard, trackpad, and speaker layout are great. The only problem is to make smaller bezels they either need to make the physical size smaller (which would mess up the layout), or add a larger screen (which I prefer) but that might be hard to find a manufacturer who makes 14.5" displays.

wut are we twins? exactly everything i wanted changed including nordic layout option. hvor kommer du fra?
Hey Eber, love the vid!
I think, the iterative design is what allows Razer to sell it cheaper than previously. They don't have to change as much meaning less R&D needed
They engineered a super thin laptop that still has more guts than your average gaming PC (since a majority of people are still using older gen and this mobile 1060's perf are similar to the ones of a 970).

really? your car costs 1600 dollars? howwww
Yogi7X TV second hand
Yogi7X TV I bought a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville for $1000 with only 106,000 miles on it. With regular oil changes and general maintenance it still runs great.

oh boy the bezel can park a spaceship
did y'all get your blade review out before linus????
Just got the new Alienware 13 R3, and although it's thicker and heavier than the Razer Blade, it's much more easily upgradeable (second M.2 slot which I populated with a Crucial 1.1TB SSD for like 260 bucks). Why is bezels such a big deal to many people? I'm upgrading my lenovo ideapad (i play games on it) to this. Hoping they go on sale after thanks giving though :).
Battery? I've heard they could increase the battery life to a good use of 8-9 hours.
Why would you get that if you could get a really nice rig for cheaper than a laptop?
the xps 15 doesnt have the gtx 1060 ...its the much much slower 1050ti
It's minimalist design is the reason why I bought one. Why fix it if it ain't broken? For a person who don't like red accent, Razer's laptop is a perfect one. I don't game much but having extra power when I need it is really helpful. The fan noise can be annoying sometimes though
Thanks for the video ,, Goodbye razer 2017/16 till we meet again after 3years
Why didn't you compare battery life?
add more exhaust on the side and more heat sink, redesign the heat pipes, and there is more. intel coffee lake has been released and this processor and maybe this new gen processor makes more heat or more cool??
using max-q maybe more good enough
i dont mind bezels like that when opening the laptop you dont touch the screen
is the Razer blade v3 refurbished from Razer worth the price (under 1k usd)? it's the one with the 3gb 970m
obvious point to make, at 2:21 you missspoke. the razer blade has as much storage expansion capability as the XPs 15, namely a single M2 NVME compatible slot.
but more important, calling the XPS 15 a gaming laptop is a joke I think. insufficient cooling and paltry 1050 does not make it a gaming laptop. and for consistency, people make fun of the razer blade 4k or 3k panel because the 1060 cannot play at that resolution; yet, the same people cannot stop praising the 4k panel in the XPS which has a 1050 GTX graphics card mind you!
very good review!!!
thanks.
Most the people criticising here are more than likely just salty because they can't afford this. Is this perfect? No. Is it worth upgrading from the 2016 version? Not really. The new GIGABYTE Aero 15 with GTX 1060 is a better alternative for the thin gaming laptop space with the super slim bezel, better trackpad, and not so prone to fingerprint smudges.
When do you think the next razer blade will come out??
Is there a difference in battery life?
Please put a 15.6" screen in this chassis!! An xps-like bezel less display in this machine would be magic
For a 512g ssd and 4k screen, its about 1200 usd. I'm hyped for the new 8th gen version!
Why does Eber do more videos than Dimitri?
Because Dmitri is too busy filming cringy ads
They should really do something about the massive screen bezels!
Look at your title. What was your problem with the titan x nomenclature again? Sad to see even great channels like HC jumped on the bandwagon of hate.
do both have the same keyboard?
4:00 Well, that's what they get for copying the MacBook.
I never liked the on hinge exhaust, Its meant for lower power systems. A similar notebook, the Aero 14, also has one, as the Blade its a loud machine. Question: is the wrist rest sharp?
+Ignafiltro Sanchez the edge is pretty defined. It's worse than a MacBook because it's sorter but with normal wrist angle use its not an issue.
I just bought this computer and it has some backlight bleeding. Do your recommend I get it replaced? How common is it?
If you have an issue with the storage, you can use a portable HDD and store your Steam Library there, instead of paying 100+ dollars for a little more sotrage in the SSD.
Not everyone wants to carry around a portable HDD...
I know, but personally, I'd rather carry a portable HDD the size of my wallet than spend what? 600 dollars more on a larger SSD.
Chaks243 buy 256gb model, sell the sdd, buy intel 600p
which one?
What ssd costs that much? And HDD's are not even that cost effecitve anymore. My flash drive is prob faster, too.
what mice you use right now? and what do you recommend for fps? i need a new mice since my diamondback hurt my arm :(
If bezels are large because of space in the base... speakers and other shit.. then use 15.6" display with ultra thin bezel
Treebsquire the aero 14 is also very tempting, that large 94Wh battery, 1440p screen, 512 gig and for 1700$
Aiman Hilmi Yeah, I've nearly ordered it so many times :) Saw a review today though and the fan noise was over 60 decibels under load, which is too loud for me.
Treebsquire there's no reason to get the Alienware without the OLED screen!
so what is the issue with fan noise on 2017 model on idle? you said it has problems what problems???
Dear Razer, please adress the following issues;
1) Slim bezels & resolution
2) fan noise / Better Cooling, NO THROTTLING AT ALL
3) A new premium classy looking Logo
What displays are those behind you? Thanks!
that mouse on that table made me cry
oke so i want to get a blade by september. the thing is, should i wait for the late 2017 model since it might have increased performance with the nvidia's max q technology (it would be cool to have a 1070 in there)?
1tb PCIE storage isn't cheap, that's not their fault. Apple's 1tb nand flash is about the same damage but man oh man is it fast.
Dual 512gb m.2 modules under raid might save some dollars and run faster.
hey bro awesome video i m going to start youtube this summer and ur video and background music is nice which one is it , i have a pentium computer it works but iwant a laptop setup for youtube, studies, some gaming ,it would be nice if u suggest me some and keep doing the great work👍👍👍👍
LAST TIME XPS 15
thanks
i bought this laptop too play oldschool runescape. is it powerful enough?
is it reliable?
I can't find the 4k version
Why do you need so many games at the same time. I dual boot arch linux and windows 10 and have games on both on a 240gb ssd.
Why so few videos with Dmitry?
Whats it like in performance for After Effects and Premiere?
Richard Blackburn in all honestly, similar to the 2016 Blade. the 7700HQ gives you slightly faster render times but playback is similar
Eber and Dmitry were finally in the same room! There goes that theory...
I've been using my 2013 razer blade they were first released. It's been an incredible machine for the past 4 years with me. But as time goes on, I just hate those bezels more and more...
I think I'll not upgrade my machine till they fix those bezels
I feel like Razer should finally work on making the bezels thinner
what name does this laptop actually have? Like is it v5 or the new razer blade because when I was searching on razer, I didn't find the 2017 version
Thank you for this.
Wait! Crescent Town? Dentonia Park?
Love this laptop! (got it last week, 1 tb version)
what mouse model in 0:17 moment
I have this laptop (2017 Razer Blade 14 with Intel 7700HQ - GTX1060, model: RZ09-01953) and was wondering if I could switch out the storage for 2 TB capacity. I wasn't sure what the max this laptop allows. Thank you!
i wish they make the bezel better and it could turn into a 15 inch model
Blade 2016 -> Blade 2017 is like the jump from the RX 400 Series to the RX 500 Series
The lack of G-sync at that price point is quite the turn off I must say.
Only razor product thats ever been worth the buy was my 2010 (or was it 12 or 13?) Ouroboros gaming mouse. Sleek barebones and responsive. Runs beautifully to this day. No complaints. Only thing they got down is mouse game. My brothers headset broke super quick
Wait so other than a Skylake to Kaby lake upgrade (using the word upgrade loosely) what is actually different?
