    I bought a 6 month old used Blade 14 in 2015 (i7, 16Gb, GTX970M, 4k screen) for about half its retail price. Daily drove it and gamed on it happily for 5 years. It has gone on business trips with me across the world. I just built a custom rig for myself this year and can't complete it due to a lack of GPUs. So my Blade is still pulling its weight. It still looks as good as the model Linus has in the video. Best laptop purchase I ever made.

    "Up to"
    Marketing's way of making specs sound way better than they are without getting in legal trouble. 🙄

    • @sirflimflam
      @sirflimflam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      I hate the whole "up to" bullshit. It's like, no speed at all is in that range so what the hell are you even saying really. Broadband got a lot better about it (at least in my area) but I still remember years and years back when they'd advertise "up to 20 megabit" and I'd be lucky if I saw 2 to 4...

    • @code96roblox
      @code96roblox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +95

      The best thing is when they say "Up to" in regards to specs and "Starting at" in regards to price. Basically "Look at this amazing laptop that can have up to [Amazing specs] that starts at just [low price]" and that low price is a config that give you like an i3 and 4gb of ram.

    Razer lost me as a customer due to their customer support. I got one of the Blades for my gf because it was at the time one of the few gaming laptops that did not look like something designed by a 12 year old. It has a lot to like about it, but it's also extremely disappointing in how noisy it gets unless you purposefully downgrade it.
    But what made me forget Razer for future purchase was the customer support. The battery started bulging to the point that the trackpad did not work. I took it out to be safe and contacted Razer about a replacement. They refused to send me just a new battery or have me send the battery to them to get a new one. No, instead I was supposed to backup and wipe the machine, send it with a defective battery halfway across the world so they can open it, replace the battery and send it back to me. With no guaranteed timeframe when this would actually happen. That was just a ridiculous thing to ask for when my gf needed this for school and the problem could have been solved by an easily user replaceable part, you can even see the battery and it's connection in this video.
    Provide replacement parts or provide a service that can get the machine repaired in a clear timeframe.

      Go on the Razer forums and almost every blade owner has this problem. It is from overengineering (You put the fastest CPU and GPU on the market in a chassis made out of metal the size of a macbook, watch it heat up to over 90 degrees, and then wonder why the battery begins to fail?). It is an easy enough fix, but yeah, Razer is no Apple.

So AMD isn't just saying no thunderbolt, AIBs are actively deciding to add it to products a minority wants them on, and keep them absent on products the majority wants them on. The thing I hate about Razer is how easily everything breaks. I used to love their mice and keyboards, and was totally oblivious to this until a friend of mine was like "...how many mice have you gone through over the past few years?" On the surface, this thing looks slick as hell. I don't know why laptop manufactures think gaming laptops need to look like futuristic scifi spaceships. Just having the immense power of a gaming laptop inside a moderately benign case is definitely my preference. But I just don't know if I could drop down the kind of scratch needed for a laptop like this and trust I'd still be able to use it in 2 years.

    I am really excited to see this review. I recently purchased the ROG G14 3060 variant, still R9 with 16GB DDR4 and a 1TB NVME drive, super slim and fast, but I was eyeballing the razer hard. The Razer just didn't have that wow factor to command the extra price. The g14 at 1449 USD is just so killer. It runs Control (with DLSS) with all RT effects at a very nice 70FPS. The 144hz display is great for Overwatch and other competitive shooters, and the R9 is just so insanely fast, and does anything I could ever want it to do for my daily driver machine for college and work. I found the Razer KB lacking severely, it felt almost mushy compared to the very crisp and tactile keys that are on the G14, although the Razer does win for having an enter key that doesnt have a dead zone, an unfortunate issue I have noticed on the G14. All in all. Spot on review, definitely nice to see this segment or ultraportable gaming laptops have legit competition these days

      I guess VRAM is different and RTX cores so could make a difference for blender rendering on RTX cores for example. I don't see how it can differ much in gaming. Although we know that a 4-core CPU at 20W power can get more done than a single core at 20W power. So maybe more CUDA cores with lower clock is better than having fewer that boost higher. Especially since GPUs don't have the "single-thread-performance" problem xD

    You know what?
    Even though I have no prob with Linus's laptop reviews, he likes to go deep on the details of the gamery hardware ... which is great and all ... but as a viewer who watches this stuff, I have become 'well balanced' and 'in tuned' with Alex's laptop review expertise when it comes to pure ergonomics; keyboard quality switch choice, deck flex, and general 'feelings' about how it compares to others on the market.
    I can from the distance of my home here, gauge how a unit Alex covers stacks up to the competition, and I appreciate the minor differences between them all, based squarely on how he responds to attributes (or failures) for each one. I would be totally comfortable making a laptop decision, only on his recommendations. Because I know how he feels about others he has reviewed, I can appreciate his 'one over another' recommendations for a laptop as a daily driver.
    Although I have zero problem with Linus's review ... I just dont know how this review, stacks up against other gamer laptops, as his style focuses on the one unit, and I cant tell how it compares to another unit from watching his laptop reviews, I cant tell exactly how good the keyboard is, or other attributes it may have. In essence, I have been sucked into Alex's reviews, I get what he is saying and I get how he ranks them.
    I WOULD RESPECTABLY SUGGEST that in the future, within the same video, after Linus runs thru the hardware, gamery details and geeks out, over what he likes about it ... change places with (or is 'joined by') Alex and let him do the ergonomic, layout and keyboard comparison, the way he does. In other words, work these high end gaming laptop videos together.
    Then ... reviews like this would slot nicely into the vast plethora of other laptops (gaming and otherwise) on the market, because in the end ... people who would consider this laptop, will probably use it as a daily driver. Are ya following me here?
    All I got, daily LTT watcher.

In Feb 2021 I decided to purchase a 2021 model for my robotics programming business, where I needed something pretty powerful and low profile. When I received it it was DOA. By the time I got them to respond I was deep into a project and had to have it replaced asap. After I told them me sending it back for them to go through their validation process wasn't going to work because if my timeline, they finally conceded after an exchange of 6 emails that they would send a shopping label and after they confirmed it was picked up by FedEx they would ship me a unit they had already designated for my replacement. Well pickup cam and went and they never shipped. After a few more ignored emails they said they were going by their process of performing validation on the failure. I was so pissed at this point I said NVM just give me a refund I need something now. Well they never refunded but 2 weeks later (now about 4 weeks into the rma process) decided to ship me the replacement unit. I already purchased a new Alienware m15r3 so I didn't need it so they said I could return it for a refund. So that's what I did. They said once they received it they would refund the card it was purchased on. To make a longer story short they didn't refund the card until late April....from a February 8 mishap. Fuck razer. Hey Linus they shipped the laptop with that charger by default because it draws more than 100watts under load. USB-C isn't (yet) able to provide more than 100 (or with some proprietary solutions 120-130) watts. You might be only used to thin&light laptops but gaming machines simply can not be run under load via usb C yet and this should have been pretty obvious to you. You could have also just checked the wattage on the charger to be sure about it as it's a 230w one. That won't even be possible to sustain with the next generation of power delivery USB-C which will only support up to 200w.
    Well anyway a nice video like always though that comment could have been thought about a little more even in a "first reaction/unboxing" video.
