      I know "Let it Be" was recorded before, but "Abbey Road" is not their last album. Just stick to the chronological order of release dates...
      "Abbey Road" - 1969
      "Let it Be" - 1970
      So basically, Let it be is the last album

    They grew apart.
    Paul was the only one who still liked being a Beatle. He's a rural guy living on a farm. George and Ringo wanted a bigger piece of the spotlight. John went protesting, stayed into hard drugs and the city life
    There's a big difference between spending your day preaching on the streets of NYC/London through a bullhorn, feeding chickens and meditation.

      He still liked being a Beatle, yet it's mainly John who continued to write "Beatles songs" in a way. McCartney tried other things, very different from what he used to, Pure folk with "Junk", Gaelic Anthem with "Mull of Kintyre", James Bond theme song with "Live and Let die", Funky song with "Coming up", Pop songs with "say say say". Paul has tremendous, extraordinary range, but you have to admit that the Beatles spirit was still in John.

      The Beatles disbanded because Paul in late 1968 wanted to leave the group and start a solo career, as he wanted to get all the money, be the sole star, and play softer music. He then told Hunter Davis about this, and to prepare the public Paul released the film Let It Be / Get Back, which John called Paul's film for Paul. This is the basis. Everything else is just excuses or little things that did not have a decisive influence.

    For those of you that clicked this thinking Paul was going to explain why they broke up, it's click baid. The reasons the Beatles broke up are complex, however it comes mainly down to one simple thing. They wanted to stop touring for awhile, and then when Brian Epstein died the Beatles haggled over who should be the manager, and Paul disagreed with the rest of the Beatles. They really broke up when Epstien died.

    • @PRR5406
      @PRR5406 7 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      You nailed it. And the nonsense about Yoko being the wedge is another mislead. John was focusing on Yoko, but George needed to stretch, and Ringo had enough of the arguments and unproductive studio hours. Had John not been murdered, I think the Beatles would have gotten back in the studio, but with different ground rules. They were in need of a long vacation from being a unit, but not from being colleagues. Nevertheless, they remain the most popular, productive, and terrific rock band of all time.

    • @CaseyVan
      @CaseyVan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      PRR5406 It's kind of ironic that a Beatle wife was blamed for the break up of the Beatles when we have Linda influencing Paul on who should be the Beatles manager which basically caused Paul to sue the Beatles. I don't like Yoko Ono though, you don't just leave your past behind and the people with it, that hurts people like Julian who didn't deserve to be treated like that.

    • @VegetabIeMan
      @VegetabIeMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      PRR5406 one of the best for good and for bad. Good as they did play the best of the British beat music, and did so much for pop and rock n' roll. But bad because there are so much other rock n' roll bands who also contributed so much. It's shame the genera population is towards the sight of those bands. Essentially, bands like Led Zeppelin they get all the credit for what the Beatles and others like Cream and Hendrix Experience did as pioneers before them.

  • @johnmiller5679

    It's simple they were changing and wanted to do other things within music. George for instance had so much material he would have never got to release with the Beatles and back then it was not like it is now where you can be in multiple bands. They went onto four separate careers and we all should just be happy those 4 unique very talented individuals stayed together long enough to make 12 fantastic albums filled with such incredible music.

    George Harrison was also discontent. He was happier plsying with Bob Dylan and others. Paul was just about the only one serious about keeping the group together. Ringo actually left the group during the white album, he didn't feel appreciated. You can't blame it on one person or one thing

      They've all discussed it many times before. The simplest answer is that they just weren't getting along anymore and they were growing apart and wanted different things. They got together as boys and now they were becoming men and they needed space to go their own way. Not really unlike when people grow apart in a marriage- John had actually compared the situation to a divorce! The more complicated answer was after Brian Epstein died they lost their direction, and couldn't agree on a new manager, that led to a lot of acrimonious fights; they formed the Apple Company, and none of the Beatles knew anything about business and didn't know how to manage it. George was becoming more creatively prolific and wanted to record more of his songs, but John and Paul ignored him and condescended to him. Then there were all sort of personal things on the side with their love lives- for years they had been an insular little community with an extended family feel among their group, then John left Cynthia and got together with Yoko Ono, who nobody liked and he insisted on bringing around all the time, and Paul left Jane and got together with Linda. Linda herself wasn't a problem, but she just wasn't "one of the gang" as Jane was and it increased the general feeling that the Beatles family was falling apart, which had felt that way since Brian died. Individual members were having personal issues with drugs and alcohol, and issues at home with divorces and affairs and domestic problems. It just eventually came to a head for them and they couldn't go on.

      @nigelmurphy6761 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@moonlily1 They weren't getting along due to the business meetings at apple they had to attend at the time but ultimately the broke up over money and business dealings (legal stuff etc.) which wasn't resolved until 1975.

      @@nigelmurphy6761 I think creative frustrations and personal issues played into it as well. Not as much specific personal issues so much as having spent too much time together in the fishbowl of mega fame and just started chafing each other's nerves in a general sort of way. I mean, they'd been a group since their early teens and now they were pushing 30. They just needed to move on.

    I hate click-bait. When Brian Epstein died, they went into cruise control. Paul wanted to lead, and the others resented him for it. Add in the presence of Yoko to an already tense situation and it all fell apart. It's a real shame they didn't all just take a year or 18 month vacation away from each other to mature a little bit, get away from each other, and live separate lives for awhile. As Forrest Gump says, "It must be hard being brothers....I wouldn't know".

      Doug Robb - You’re spot on with your comments. In addition to the fact that the four were approaching their 30s and were naturally growing apart as they became family men, when Brian Epstein died, the vultures swooped in and the four had to mind the cookie jar for the first time in their careers. Brian was the only person the four Beatles trusted with their money and was an equal partner. Their breakup was inevitable, but the fight over who would be their new manager, among other things, no doubt helped expedite it.

    The truth emerged immediately, that is, that was Yoko Ono who divided John from the group. The other three could not stand her and were too patient with her because they evidently did not want to lose their leader. What Paul reports today, half a century later, are all inventions, mental ruminations to try to justify a fact that was devastating for the whole group, especially for the other three, Paul at the head of all.
    Of course if they had continued together for at least another twenty years I think that today they would be at the same height as Beethoven or Mozart.

    INMHO the Beatles split because they were extremely creative and they took the Beatles as far as they could, as a live act, as a recording act and as a film product. The had reached a peak and could go no higher. The only way they could express their creativity further was to do it as individuals and certainly Paul and George did that to a very large degree.

      Untrue. It was released afterward. It was recorded in early 1969. Abbey Road was released almost immediately following its recording that summer. Phil Spector had already been set to produce Let It Be and, was known for over producing in the first place. When he realized the band was probably going to break up after Abbey Road, he stalled even more, knowing that his production would have the potential to be the highest grossing album of all time. Since it came out after the news that the Beatles have broken up, Phil Spector had the honor and privilege of saying that he produced the last Beatles album.

      John Lennon couldn't take it anymore. He couldn't stand Faul. He & the other 2 had been forced to work with him. The replacement since 1967 beginning with Sgt Pepper's. Paul was murdered in late 1966. Sir Billy has been impersonating Paul for 51yrs now. He is all people know.

    The Beatles had done EVERYTHING they could have done by 1969. Powerful new groups and sounds were emerging in England to dominate the airwaves with complex and sophisticated new "progressive rock". Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Yes, and Jethro Tull were just some of the new talent who took the Beatles evolution of Rock and Roll to new levels. Pressure was put upon them to "Let it Be"....that they were a group "of the sixties" and that they should STAY in the sixties and not tarnish their reputation trying to compete with the new sound and the new supergroups. This happened to Garth Brooks, who was told by record executives that he was " of the 90's" and that he should quit. Personal gripes also were a major cause of the Beatles breakup..... George felt held back, and he PROVED it with his massive success on his"All Things Must Pass" solo album with MANY hits on that record. Lennon ticked off the other three DELIBERATELY by shoving Yoko down their throats with her annoying presence at every session.....a typical Lennon move designed to frustrate the increasingly dominant McCartney who even ticked off George himself. Ringo was devastated by the breakup....he had no dreams of solo glory like the others and felt a great loss with no Beatles. Ironically, it was Ringo who then garnered the most hit songs after the breakup as his ex- Beatle bandmates provided " A Little Help From His Friends" to insure his success with their song writing and playing on his records. It was tough then for the fans to digest....they were so loved and were such a part of everyone's youth. Decades later, the disappointment of the fans has eased and the music lives ON........more than that of the "supergroups" and all the rest of the ho-hum that followed. They are in a category all their own, forever joined together in the minds and memories of those who loved them.

    There is no group who had the schedules of gigs and popularity, on the planet, as The Beatles! They had had enough! There will never again be 4 individuals who conquered the World, I have listened to their music for over 50 years, and it's even more interesting and evocative than before - whoever of the 1000 people who decided against Paul, well they know 'nothing' about their real lives and just like the musak today it's, almost 'crap', non original and sometimes less than 3 chords musically!

    The usual reasons. Musical differences, band cabin fever, marriage. Sometimes bands stay together despite all that (e.g., Metallica, Bon Jovi) and sometimes they can't (e.g., the Ramones, the Smiths).

    Paul McCartney got a lawyer and wanted to be paid for his songs that he wrote and this made the other three Beatles have to also get lawyers. That's why the Beatles Really Broke Up! It was Paul McCartney not being a band member but wanting to be paid for what he wrote. Paul really was dead "inside" John even wrote about it.....

    Throughout the years people have claimed that Yoko Ono Lennon was responsible for breaking up the Beatles?
    Mapmaker:
    This is an absolute lie, there is Absolutely no truth to that what so ever.If anyone is responsible for breaking up the Beatles it was Paul McCartney . It was in April 1969 when John Lennon discovered that Paul McCartney had been secretly buying up shares of northern songs (Beatles copyright company)behind John Lennon’s back. When John found this out he felt not only betrayed but stabbed in the back.From that point on their relationship was finished.John only kept his band the Beatles together out of business obligations.Nothing more. As John Lennon said at the time when McCartney took to announcing breaking up John Lennons band the Beatles to promote his album McCartney “ ‘He didn’t quit, I sacked him!’”
