You are all very wonderful and I am so glad I can share my thoughts and music with you. The one thing that always resonated with me with The Beatles and music in general is how it can bring people together. I try to stay as unbiased as I can but I will always have my own interpretations of the history we discuss in these videos. While working on this video I felt a lot of confusing emotions about the members of my favorite band but the one thing that stood out to me is how we learn to forgive. John, Paul, George, and Ringo often found middle ground after the end of their band and I think that's speak volumes to the validity of their words on Love. Which is at the end of my day, the most valuable thing I encounter. I am proud to talk to every single one of you on anything you'd like, feel free to email me anytime at TheHollyHobsSuck@gmail.com
Your posts are all excellent. Heartfelt, thoughtful, thought-provoking, and always respectful. I have grown up with the Beatles and they infuse most every moment of my life. My “favorite Beatle” (what a silly thing to do, to have to have a favorite Beatle) has always been Paul. I have long struggled with John and much of what he did in his life that was unkind. Please don’t get me wrong, he did many amazing things, and wrote some of the world’s most beautiful music, but I struggled with many of his unkind acts personally, until one day I read something someone said about John in a website forum. “John was conflicted.” Understanding and accepting that eliminated my need to judge John. Together, the Beatles were amazing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feeling about them!!!
The HollyHobs ~ Yeah, The Truth & The Real Reason that the Beatles broke up is because John Lennon couldn’t stand Billy Shears. The True Story is found in the fascinating new documentary footage called = “The Winged Beatle” it also explains clearly why John Lennon became a Heroin addict and why they stopped playing live at the height of their careers.
Paul said it was John. John couldn't keep his personal and music life separate. John brought Yoko along even though no family was allowed in the studio. He chose Yoko over the band.
As a musician and band leader, I always felt that no one outside of the band should be at rehearsal or in the studio. The tendency to perform would influence people, and when someone needed to be corrected there would be a human tendency to be defensive or overly critical. There is usually an intimacy within a band that is seldom revealed to outsiders, which is as it should be.
Queen and 3/7 Sugars ~ Yeah, 1966/1967 are very important years in the story of the Beatles. if you haven’t already seen it before, Check out the amazing new short video Footage called = “Paul to Faul 1966/1967 Interviews more differences” By Sandpit123 i hope that you enjoy it as much as myself. Also the fascinating new documentary footage called = “The Winged Beatle” It’s one of the best films about The Beatles to date and a must see for everyone that is a true fan of the Beatles.
Honestly man, I think Paul did the best that he could have done during those last Beatles days. He really tried to keep doing stuff, making music, and keep the guys together... He could have made mistakes but his intentions were always pro Beatles. Hell, he even wanted to keep playing live...
They were actually planning to reunite as a group in the 80s, and John was getting closer to Julian. So don’t blame Yoko, blame that monster Mark Chapman.
I just heard from James Taylor’s book that he saw MC the day before- and approached JT babbling. JT lived across the street from J and Y and horrified, heard the killer’s shots from within his flat there.
You're full of shit. When John was killed he hadn't even seen Paul in four years. The truth is it's John's fault but he did it because of Yoko. Because they wouldn't treat her as an "equal". Probably because she wasn't
@voicesfrombeyond I agree there was never a plan for Union but John clearly says in an interview he would do an album if the other three were interested in doing it at the same time. He just wouldn't do live shows. But that's nothing new as you probably know
They grew up like everybody else and wanted to do new things on their own. But the brilliance they created while facing tensions on a daily basis was just remarkable. Brothers fight and in the end they're still brothers.
I disagree. Many "facts" said in the video are questionable to say the least and the video doesn't offer a conclusive reason as to why they broke up. For instance, John didn't meet Yoko magically at an art gallery like Yoko wants us to believe. Paul said the true story is Yoko approached him looking for one of the manuscripts of his songs and he refused but told Yoko to try John instead. Yoko went to John and he gave her the manuscript for "The Word". Also, according to Ringo, Paul made up the story of him going to Paul's house to tell him he couldn't release the album. I'm a Beatles fan and this question has made me research and understand the dynamics of the band better, so I can give you my two cents. The Beatles is really John and Paul. George and Ringo are awesome, but they could be replaced and the band would still carry on with other musicians in their place like Eric Clapton. John was the leader of the band until Pepper, where his heavy use of LSD, depression, and Paul's ambition changed the leadership of the band forever. The Beatles went from being John's band to being Paul's band. There was always competitiveness in John and Paul's relationship, but from Pepper to the final days, it became unhealthy and a lot of jealousy, backstabbing, and sabotaging took place. John was always bitter George Martin preferred Paul to him, and he always felt his songs were made experimental and handled sloppily on purpose as a form of sabotage, while Paul's songs would take them days to make until they were perfect. Moreover, John lost respect for Paul as an artist. Macca started making granny songs that the rest of the band despised, like Lovely Rita, Obla di Obla da, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, etc. The Beatles broke up because John and Paul "broke up". They broke up because they had diverged artistically and John wasn't interested in being a part of Paul's music. The resentment accumulated by John over the years due to the change of power dynamics in the group, Paul's backstabbing in order to be the top dog of The Beatles, the annoying presence of of phony Yoko Ono (who nevertheless is crucial for John's sublime, creative outburst for the years to come) , and the death of Brian Epstein were the major factors to the Beatles breaking up.
I'm 67, and lived all this as a teenager. You did a decent job with your breakup analysis. One big thing not mentioned was John's burgeoning drug consumption (mostly LSD in 1965, then later with Yoko, heroin). This made John lethargic. He now wrote far fewer songs, and no longer really led the band. Paul filled John's void, which later gave rise to his "bossy" complaint by the other Beatles. And Yoko didnt push a "Beatles-destruct" button, but she sucked-out whatever joy remained of being a Beatle. Another point: In Paul's April 1970 self-interview, he never said he was "breaking up" the Beatles. (Neither did John in that September 1969 Apple meeting). They both said THEY were leaving the group. (Paul's interview also said he didnt know if his departure would be temporary or permanent, which gave us heartbroken Beatles fans hope. Alas, it was permanent.) Finally, the biggest point of all, which I already hinted: The Beatles never envisioned becoming as big as they did. It was unprecedented - especially in this pre-Internet/social media world. Their intense fame became an albatross. A burden. There were no more fame-mountains to climb - they were firmly at the very top of the World, with nothing left to conquer. But even with a fading, less-involved John, they thankfully soldiered on. Their joy was slowly fading as well (but not their music!), with Paul being the only energetic Beatle by 1969. Yoko's ever-presence, and John's heroin use, along with Allan Klein's bullying chicanery, effectively killed the Beatles in the autumn of 1969. Although in 1970 Paul wrote he was leaving the band, he actually filed legal proceedings on December 31, 1970, to formally dissolve the Beatles partnership (which none of the other Beatles truly wanted - perhaps each held hope of reunion?) In the 1970s there were numerous reunion talks among the four, some serious. But for varying reasons and situations, it sadly never happened. (The partnership was finally dissolved in late 1975.) The Beatles, like Princess Diana, died forever young. And we still miss them both.
In my opinion any “one” person was to blame, I would say it’s John.... he brought Yoko, he chose to ignore the rules they had always agreed on. He had a anger issue, and hardly ever compromised. He was childish in the way he treated George. But they all had a part in it over all. But John was the major factor in my opinion....
John didn't care about no one but John but Paul got last laugh when the Beatles did break up and sued the others for making him work under a contract he found unacceptable
I kinda feel like Paul also was bitter about how John chose her over the boys... These are three people that bond throughout years with music and many experiences... But eventually getting ditched by John. Maybe a bit of jealousy? I dunno, one thing is sure is that Paul was heartbroken about John's decision.
I was watching a Paul McCartney interview where he said that he is so thankful that he and John got to reconnect through telephone calls and the occasional hang out during the 70's before John was killed in 1980. While John was in his house-husband years raising Sean, Paul said he would call John and they would talk about things like baking bread like they were housewives.
Qthelost well I don’t know about Paul, but John is a crappy bread baker, as he reportedly bent the knife when he tried to cut it once! Also there WAS that one time the two of them met in John’s apartment and nearly went onto SNL.
@@thezombiecreeper I guess John had to come to terms with the fact that just because you can write legendary songs doesn't mean you can bake edible bread.
@@One.Zero.One101 Yeah that's a great video. I remember seeing some pictures of Paul and John together in L.A. sitting around a pool, I think it was Harry Nilsson's house.
Raul Garcia imo I don’t think they would overshadow Queen... the energy they have is completely different and Freddie has a certain way of dazzling the room...
@@gtisl the talk of the concert would've been the beatles... no doubt Freddie rocked that crowd, but a beatles reunion, playing their hits - would've been the highlight by far.
i could see queen and the beatles jamming together if jon never past away!!!!!!!!!greatness brings out the utmost admiration and respect amongst all musicians!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ringo left first, then was talked into returning. Then George wanted out. Then John. Paul hated Allen Klein and then he was done. It was a mutual breakdown. They were tired. They were older. They had been together for a decade inside a hurricane. They were all married, and pushing 30. The Yoko argument is incredibly superficial. The band was John's, then it morphed into Paul's. Paul was difficult as seen in the Let It Be film. George was sick of being treated like a kid. Ringo didn't like the negativity. It was time to part.
Bingo!!! They had been tied together at the hip for too long and it was like a pressure cooker finally boiling over legally, musically, and personally.
"Here Comes the Sun" isn't about turmoil within the Beatles, it's actually about how George never got over how the venue in Cincinnati booked them during rain lol
This was very thorough and a good explanation as to why there were a dozen reasons they broke up. In the end, they broke up because of their personalities - or rather, Paul's get-up-and-go-to-work ethic didn't entirely mesh with John's art school mentality and George's being able to see through all of the BS that surrounded them. It was only a matter of time. They probably broke up at the right time, but it's a shame they couldn't all work on something together in the mid-to-late 70's.
@ANGELCYNN MODIGNES You literally used a disrespectful name for Japanese people and tried to call someone else racist when they mentioned nothing about it... ok pal, ok...
# 1. Brian's suicide # 2. John's violation of the 'no women in the studio' rule. Still pissed at Yoko, but John let it happen. # 3. John's over indulgence in heavy drugs. # 4. Not enough time apart. 24/7 for too long. The Stones learned this lesson well. Record, tour, take 2-3 years off. Don't even speak to each other.
I strongly agree with #4 # 5. Paul being too bossy # 6. Paul using too much group time to produce his songs, some of them not too good, which irked John and George # 7. George was bullied in a way by Paul and John. John even didn't want to play on George's songs # 8. John was pissed because Paul was buying shares of the Northernsongs company behind his back, which owned their songs # 9. Yoko ate George's digestive cookies in the studio.
Yoko would not dare to insert her opinions into the group without being encouraged by John ... Its basically John's insensitivity towards his group member's feelings and pride that tore up the band ... He's parading Yoko around like showing the rest that she's more important to him than their feelings and discomfort ...
@@88feji #1...true #2...true....but she 'instructed John w/in earshot of the others. then they watched him tow the line. after a while she _did_ make suggestions. regardless.... they had a *no women* rule very early one. John had a great voice. emotionally, mentally, morally he had no spine. it is quite difficult when one has an absent father, a floozy mother. neither present to build boundaries. then.... to literally hear the crash which took his mothers life. John had incredible talent.......but he was a messed up dude.
Yes, it's just a bit too suspicious that John seemed so keen to work with Paul again during his 'lost weekend' period with May Pang, but as soon as he got back together with Yoko, those plans were scrapped.
The Beatles had several periods: Embryonic period-1957-1962; Adolescent period-1963-1965; Maturing period; 1966-1970. Around 1965, during the filming of Help, George had mention that he became interested in Indian music and beatlemania was starting to wear him out.
My Father absolutely loved the Beatles. He passed away 9 years ago and any time I hear any of their songs it makes me remember all the great times I had with him. Great video Bro-Beans keep up the good work
If you listen to most of Paul's songs in the second side of Abbey Road, he was basically announcing he was leaving the band. One sweet dream came true, but over the years it turned into you never give me your money. Once there was a way to get back homeward, but there wasn't any more and it was lost forever. And man, how he knew that he'd have to carry that weight a long time because many people were going to hold him responsible for the group's breakup and he was right on. Man did he ever get blasted for his first couple of albums by the music critics holding him responsible for the group's split-up. Finally, in The end, it's love you, love you, but I just can't go on staying with you any longer. It took a lot of negotiating just to get Abbey Road done and George Martin himself said he was very surprised when Paul called him up to produce Abbey Road. The more I listen to those songs, the more I think that Paul knew that after Abbey Road it was over and he wrote those songs with the end of The Beatles in mind. Makes for bittersweet listening.
The Beatles broke up because it was time to do so. Can you imagine if they stayed together through the Disco 70's? It was for the best. A 1980's reunion on MTV would have been cool though. It was never meant to be though.
@wayne pitty I would have been sad to see the Beatles stick around as a band during the 70's trying to compete with The Bee Gees and KC & The Sunshine Band. John Lennon may never have gotten around to write songs like Imagine or we may never have heard of George Harrison's My Sweet Lord in the 70's... if both were never solo artists. The Beatles needed to go away for awhile and make a comeback in the 80's on MTV like the Monkees did. Sadly... it was never meant to be.
I was just thinking about the same thing for the Beatles never breaking up and kept on transitioning from the early days with pop rock to the present day with the EDM movement
You know, I am not. They created a tremendous masterpiece that is their music - not another brush stroke warranted- it was complete and untainted for us to enjoy even to this day.
I'm glad they never got back together in the 80s and did one of those grumpy old men tours....They had their magic years, and that could never be captured again
He's not saying they could have, he is glad it didn't happen. Though it wasnt possible. The hype and expectation evolved would balk ANYONE. The fantasy is ALWAYS better than the reality.
@@lucasc_ I never said she beat him. She psychologically manipulated him. WELL documented. ..and John didn't "beat women". There were a couple isolated incidents at most.
She did though. Deliberately. She hated Beatles cause they didnt accept her , she poisoned the atmosphere (wailed, chanted, ate George’s biscuits etc) when they were recording. John is partly to blame to for her presence but sadly he was brainwashed by her, I think he suffered form PTSD and was really lost and vulnerable and she as a narcissist fed into that. And of course she was primary reason they hired Allen Klein, which was beginning of the end from that point .
I really like the way you explained the break up. I have one disagreement however. In my opinion, Yoko played the victim. There was no way she did not want to control John. She wanted in, she wanted control. She wanted John to herself. Whenever she was like "Oh, gee...me? I didn't want to be in the studio. John MADE me go". I claim BS. She was jealous of him. Remember, she slept in John's house when he was still married, rubbing it Cynthia's face. Everything Yoko did was proof, to me, she wanted to be front and center. This is all my opinion of course. Thanks for a great video.
Everything she did was "proof" to you? Everything you said sounds more like "I don't like her, so I will interpret everything to incriminate her", so there is in fact not a shred of proof. "There was no way she did not want to control John." What is that based on, your Ph.D. in psychology, or did you read her mind? "I claim BS." What's your evidence? It is sad that under a well-researched and rationalized video, you would offer such a comment. And I'm sure you will counter with "It's just my opinion," but even opinions should be based in reality, otherwise they are just gossip.
@@pathfinder1273 so what you're saying is, you don't accept any discussion on a subject unless it agrees with what you believe. You're dead wrong. Opinions aren't held to a high standard. Opinions are like a$$holes, everyone's got one. Show me where I said I don't like Yoko. She gave John the courage to step out. She wasn't the cause of the breakup. I wasn't around them, so all I have to form my opinion are her actions. I think anyone with a brain would agree she influenced John in a big way. This is how discourse takes place. I put out my opinion, you disagree. But you have to show why you disagree. All you did was attack, which means you have nothing to back what you say, up. You need to step off. I did not comment on the video's content. In fact, if you care to read my post, I complimented it. My OPINION was Yoko's control of John and how she played the victim. Saying that she never wanted to be in the studio, etc.. She is a strong willed woman. Research that and you'll know she is. She came from a fairly tragic upbringing, which formed her ideas on relationships. Research it. I did my research. I dare say I've forgotten more about the Beatles and their lives than many people know. Next time you want to attack someone for stating their opinion, grow some balls and back up what you say . Prove I'm wrong. Where's your Doctorate? Attacking someone for their opinion is the act of a person who doesn't know how to debate. I made it clear it was only my opinion. It's not law. No one cares. Well, except you of course. Take some Welbutrin and chill out. You are taking this way too seriously. Or call the suicide hotline. Just calm down.
@minkymott "Show me where I said I don't like Yoko" You may not have said it but your ENTIRE speech in the main comment basically implied you didn't like her XD
@@creepergalgames519 that's your opinion. But don't tell Jim Murray. He hates people with opinions. Other than that, I respect your opinion, but you're wrong. I don't dislike Yoko.
@Minkymott I understand your opinion and respect it but if you don't dislike Yoko then why did you write a comment stating how she brainwashed John, played the victim, and rubbed it in Cynthia's face when she was with him when he was married. Those sound like valid points on why the person is not the most liked.
This is one of the most respectful videos about their breakup that I've seen on here. In a way, I'm kind of glad that they broke up when they did because it makes the legacy of their music so much more incredible. They shall always hold a special place in my heart and those whose lives have been touched by their work. As a Beatles fan, I'm glad you made this video.
The biggest thing was John’s unwillingness to keep his relationship with Yoko separate from the band and them getting burnt out being with each other for 10 years straight. The Beatles would’ve had an amazing reunion tour in the 80s or 90s though if John hadn’t gotten murdered.
Nope. The biggest thing was a situation that arose between George and Ringo that few know about. John found it totally unacceptable, and chose Yoko's company over theirs.
Regardless of John's love for Yoko she made him feel whole his outlet from the Beatles stardom was Yoko obviously she fulfilled the void on his life the hole in his soul that couldn't be changed or stopped a new outlook beyond the band . All of us wish they could've stayed together there is a beginning and an end to everything and there it is.David cervin.
@@davidcervin3408 No one can deny that John was madly in love with Yoko, that doesn't mean she wasn't toxic for him. She encouraged his worst tendencies, including getting him hooked on heroin. She was hypercontrolling and cut him off from nearly all his preexisting relationships, not limited to the Beatles and his first wife and son.
The beatles were a lot of talent magical mystical they grew up like most people and out of the beatles. Married moved on.sought new ventures be thankful they had such a major contribution to this lifetime .
Obviously you have your reasons for not including the Filipino disaster, John and Yoko appearing nude on the album cover, the rejection of George and Paul's songs (by John? and George Martin?), Paul, almost 'seeking Yoko's permission' (on Let It Be, the movie), the fiasco with the Maharishi, Paul's yelling at Ringo during the 'White Album' sessions. Even John's 'concert' in Toronto. Jus' sayin'.
I wanted to say something about The Beatles, but I was so taken by your song, I decided to respond to it first. The lyrics really say a lot about those mixed feelings we have about ending a relationship. Almost all of my breakups have been amicable, so the separations were in many ways more difficult than if it had been a shout fest. Nice job on your song; it's my favorite of the ones I've heard you play.
It's an easy answer...they broke up because they were tired of being the Beatles. Apart they were people... together they were a phenomenon. ALL TOGETHER NOW...1...2...3...
The saddest reason why the break up was so painful - The Beatles love each other so much. Even til the final days of his life, John would say that he love the other three.
They had already been fed up with the whole Beatles thing for years. They weren't the fab four anymore. Since they stopped touring, they were just a bunch of separate ego's releasing items under the same brand name, producer, and label.
While I think you are correct about Yoko being the sole cause of the breakup, she definitely contributed to it. Like throwing gasoline on an already burning fire, she fanned the flames. One more point. Don't dance nicely around Johns actions. He cheated on his wife. It's just better, to tell the truth about his affair than to try to gloss over it. I still love them but they had their faults, as we all do. Nice song By the way. When is the next album coming out?
I appreciate your perspective. I didn't want to dwell on it because his adulterous actions didn't break up the band. Not sure exactly when the second album will come out, maybe around 100k subscribers would be a good launching point.
@@JamesMaharajOfficialalso, I have some results after the breakup. John Lennon was shot by a crazy fan outside his apartment. George died of something.
@Felipe M Not quite right. Paul (and Linda) contributed some backing vocals to George's 1981 tribute hit to John, 'All those years ago'. And of course Paul, George and Ringo worked together for a few days in 1995 on 'Free as a bird' and 'Real love'. All seemed a bit forced and strained though if you watch the footage.
I think it probably had more to do with Allen Klein. Even though they were all arguing, they could make up, which they eventually did. But Allen Klein knew what he wanted from them, and then made the situation worse.
@@jlobiafra Maybe. Seems Mick may have recommended them initially. Here is some interesting commentary: "In fact, it has been said that Mick was so pleased with Allen Klein that he recommended him to the Beatles. Derek Taylor, Apple's press officer, remembers Jagger telling the group, "Well, maybe you wouldn't want to go on holiday with Allen, but he'll take care of you." Marianne Faithfull likewise remembers Jagger speaking positively about Klein to the Beatles, only she alleges that he did it false-heartedly. "Mick's strategy in dealing with Allen Klein was fairly diabolical," she wrote. "He would fob Klein off on the Beatles. Mick called up John Lennon and told him, 'You know who you should get to manage you, man? Allen Klein.' And John, who was susceptible to utopian joint projects such as alliances between the Beatles and the Stones said, 'Yeah, what a fuckin' brilliant idea.' It was a bit of a dirty trick, but once Mick had distracted Klein's attention by giving him bigger fish to fry, Mick could begin unraveling the Stones' ties to him. It was just a matter of time before the relationship was severed."
When you figure that they had been together for around 10 years total they were moving in different directions music wise. Added to the fact that personal issues like Paul constantly trying to get them in the studio, John's heroin problem, George issues with having only 2 songs per album etc. it's no wonder they separated.
Just watched this. A lot of information has come to light since you made this, including the Get Back documentary. However, I think this video you did was the best explanation I've ever seen or heard that described the circumstances around the break-up. Great job!!
Ed Crown like you ed I thought that too that it was part-boredom .....But by this guys info "their was a lot more that went down than even the band members didn't tell us a lot like you probably you would have heard different reasons why they called it quits from previous doco's and video's ."..from the individual players involved like I have whether it is accurate is a other matter three are dead (John the two Georges ) you got his said they said .But between you and me they simply out grew each other artistry wise and personally wise .but it's a shame the animosity stood in between them to occasionally to do a one night only studio gig before John and the two Georges pass away.It would have been brilliant .
"You Should Leave This Unread" is a fantastic song. I wish I could buy it on CD. It's so good. It's original yet it has a sort of ex-Beatles flavor to it. I bet it would fit perfectly on a John Lennon album. But my imagination didn't stop there because it could comfortably sit well among other songs on a McCartney album. The same with George and last with Ringo. It's easy to fantasize any one of the solo Beatles recording it.
I always sensed their breakup to be so much more complex than we can really know, but I love getting another point of view on that complexity here as well. Also your song at the end is gorgeous.
I must thank you truly for this video! I can tell you’ve put a crazy amount of effort into it. It sums the subject up very well, better than I've seen anyone do before in all honesty. The break up tends to get very simplified. Everyone often focuses on one or two areas only and that's it. Yoko gets the most crap. There were actually so many reasons to why things happened the way they did. To me, the key thing that you brought up is the fact that Paul's confidence in the group solidified and grew from 1967 onwards while the others had the opposite development. The dynamics completely changed, as you stated. John and Paul were still very close but as for the band, they were on completely different wavelengths. John and George became a bit of a team, Paul was his own team equally strong to their team and Ringo was an island. Sometimes John would still join Paul's team to fight George and that would lead to George obviously not standing a chance, having to bring in someone like Eric Clapton in order to be listened to. Poor Ringo just stayed out of the fighting and only wanted to make music. The disagreements were many. Did they go full circle? Probably yes. Did they grow apart? No, not necessarily. To truly understand, I think you also have to understand what was going on with the previously very strong-going Lennon/McCartney team. I think things just turned into a psychological game of jealousy, especially between the two of them. They bitched at each other and wanted to be strong on their own, using their wives as weapons to show how happy they were and how succesfully they would be doing without one another. John didn't hate Paul. In fact, his diaries show that he was obsessing over him. Reports have also made it clear that he listened to all of his records which often brought him to joy or tears. He also cried hysterically at a private airing of the Let It Be movie, seeing Paul on the big screen. The two of them loved each other more than most of us will ever understand, but their competiveness went too far. Just like brothers. After Epstein died, it wasn't a matter of team building anymore. It was a matter of making it on your own. Paul was very secure in doing that but I don't think that John was, and as always John reacted bitterly when he was insecure. He felt hurt by Paul's creative rush that went to his head. He felt hurt when Paul worked alone on the Family Way soundtrack in late 1966 (although he himself had been working solo on a movie). He felt hurt when Paul started leading the band that he once had started himself. He felt hurt when Paul was the first to announce his departure. He felt fooled and left behind. It was a sense of loneliness that led to him and Yoko being miserable and spending days doing nothing but heavy drugs. I personally believe he never fully recovered from the feeling of losing his brother since teenage years. It was too many losses. His father left him, his uncle died, his mother died when he had just gotten to know her, one of his best friends Stu died, Brian Epstein died and I feel like he felt abandoned by Paul. Jealous of Paul rushing off towards success. And the thing is, you can't blame Paul for this. He didn't know, John would never tell him truly how he felt. He would lie to him and reassure him that he was fine but Paul would eventually get to know the truth in other ways. John was always like that. Reacting with a mask of fury instead of showing his true, vulnerable self. He protected himself in that way.
As someone who just got into The Beatles this year ( i know, WAY late to the party) I'm really enjoying your videos. Thanks for creating/uploading man!
Leave this unread, brilliant, sad, melancholy. It reminds me of the letter I wrote to my ex-wife and then burned instead of mailing. Looking back I should have just kept it. After raising our children by myself I could have shared it with them. Now 45 years after our divorce and six years since her passing I’m still true to her, I still love and miss her. I guess I’m one of those who loves just once. But it was worth it. Thanks for sharing your song with us.
There were many reasons but John started drifting during Pepper getting heavily into drugs. Yoko entered the picture. Due to the abandonment issues John had from a fractured childhood he was extremely vulnerable and easily fell for a forceful personality like Yoko’s. Psychology 101- she became the long lost Mommy-In the book “Here,There, and Everywhere” Geoff Emmerick recounts that he would refer to her as “Mother” creeping the rest of them. She wanted John to herself for her own reasons and the Beatles were in the way. I always believed she knew exactly what she was doing-accounts of there marriage after bear this out-I mean she drafted Mae as a concubine. John’s drift also allowed Paul to step in and act as the leader and that initiated the decay of him and George. as seen in Let it Be. And John’s push to hire dirtbag Allen Klein was a titanic misjudgment of character by John ( like magic Alex) who convinced George and Ringo to sign with Klein. So many many reasons ( boredom, tired of each other, musical differences) but Yoko wasn’t thrown under the bus-she was the bus! So no it was not only Yoko’s fault but she was a major factor along with John’s vulnerability-we are all flawed in different ways, they were no different.
Before we crucify Yoko she could of sold out Johns name and made billions and she never did . John choose to be with her instead of the band , namely paul and paul did t take it well
I think it became very apparent to John, consciously and subconsciously that Paul had the talent and drive to lead the band, and John losing his grip on being the self proclaimed leader for 10 years was crushing his fragile ego. So turning to heroin, and Yoko while abandoning his own son, and his band was inevitable.

Thank you! Everyone needs to know the true story, the true facts, and the complete truth of the breakup. You cleared up some shadowy parts for us. Sorry I didn’t leave your song unread.
I think Rubber Soul marks the beginning of their intention to eventually give up touring. The musical instrumentation was far more studio esque than HELP! And solidifies it as the start of their desire to expand to new horizons in a studio setting. Only two songs from RS were ever played live-Nowhere Man and If I Needed Someone
Even since I was a kid I've been listening to Beatles music, and that's because of my mother, she's one of the biggest fan of this band as well. I just want to thank you HollyHobs for your hard work and dedication making videos about my favorite band...:)
Had Epstein remained Yoko would have never forced herself upon the band in the recording studio like a vulture of doom, Brian would have kept her out, Brian was the handler and fixer,he would have immediately seen the potential danger and shut it down, her forced presence in the studio was a huge problem and caused friction, it was an unprofessional and disruptive thing for her to do....
This is a 'Spot On' video. I don't know how you were able to do it but I believe you got the story right. The very first record I ever bought was the single by The Beatles- Paperback Writer (45 rpm) I was 8 years old then. As an adolescent and teen I always enjoyed and loved their music. You did your research and were very informative. A top-notch and excellent video- here! ☑ +Richard+ 🌈
John Lennon and Paul McCartney when they were writing singles and solo albums on their own after the break-up would actually send messages to each other in the songs they were writing. They both admitted as much! (John Lennon says in one of his songs, "The only thing you ever did was 'Yesterday' ".) The song that you performed here at the end is something that either Paul or John might have penned. Have you ever considered contacting Paul McCartney and possibly asking to do a song together?
Now that Get Back came out, I have to point out that George leaving the band in 1969 was caused by him being excluded by John and Paul when they were working on Two Of Us, there was no argument between George and John because of Yoko, George simply got up, stated that he was leaving the band and left. Great vid nonetheless!!
An excellent posting, been a Beatles fan since I was born (1969). A perfect description of their break up. Unbiased and on point. A total capulation of the end of the coolest band of all time. Right on man!
Excellent watch, thanks HollyHobs! Ironically their ending was even cool, they never cheesed out and left the world with a perfect ending to the greatest and most influential band of all time!
13:21 this part is not true based on the Get Back documentary. As in it, George never got into a fight with John and him announcement of him leaving came after a week of built up frustration with Paul and John while developing the songs that would be in the Let It Be album.
This was an awesome account of what really happened. I grew up listening to the Beatles because my older brothers were big fans, who wasn’t? I never knew the story behind the break up.
This video was great after a long day of work 😂
Your posts are all excellent.

In my opinion, THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO ON THE BEATLES BREAK UP

All of them did LSD
This was as good as the video.
Daniel: you and the presenter effing nailed it.
Paul has been dead since 1966
Yoko destroyed whatever was left of John, she's a gold digger
All of them did weed and lsd ,which I wish they hadn’t done
In my opinion any “one” person was to blame, I would say it’s John.... he brought Yoko, he chose to ignore the rules they had always agreed on. He had a anger issue, and hardly ever compromised. He was childish in the way he treated George. But they all had a part in it over all. But John was the major factor in my opinion....
John didn't care about no one but John but Paul got last laugh when the Beatles did break up and sued the others for making him work under a contract he found unacceptable
I wish yoko didn't exit
I kinda feel like Paul also was bitter about how John chose her over the boys... These are three people that bond throughout years with music and many experiences... But eventually getting ditched by John. Maybe a bit of jealousy? I dunno, one thing is sure is that Paul was heartbroken about John's decision.
And drugs. Don't forget the drugs.
The Beatles Died when Paul died in 1966
I was watching a Paul McCartney interview where he said that he is so thankful that he and John got to reconnect through telephone calls and the occasional hang out during the 70's before John was killed in 1980. While John was in his house-husband years raising Sean, Paul said he would call John and they would talk about things like baking bread like they were housewives.

Short story: The Beatles broke up because of Rain.
😂😂😂😂
Suppose you could say they might as well be dead if the rain comes
"Here Comes the Sun" isn't about turmoil within the Beatles, it's actually about how George never got over how the venue in Cincinnati booked them during rain lol
I didn't know Yoko meant "rain" in japanese
This was very thorough and a good explanation as to why there were a dozen reasons they broke up. In the end, they broke up because of their personalities - or rather, Paul's get-up-and-go-to-work ethic didn't entirely mesh with John's art school mentality and George's being able to see through all of the BS that surrounded them. It was only a matter of time. They probably broke up at the right time, but it's a shame they couldn't all work on something together in the mid-to-late 70's.
In a way, they did. The closest it came was on Ringo's album 'Ringo' - which is actually quite good.

@@stefanzahradny7829 John bringing her along is the catalyst.
Bruh they weren’t actually a band any more in there final years to me it was all of their decisions but mostly John’s not Yoko’s
“so john and george were considering leaving the band, and ringo was bored of playing chess”. ah yes.
In a way, I'm kind of glad that they broke up when they did because it makes the legacy of their music so much more incredible. They shall always hold a special place in my heart and those whose lives have been touched by their work.
As a Beatles fan, I'm glad you made this video.
The heroin probably hurt Lennon's output of new music toward the end of the Beatles.
It was LSD

@@davidcervin3408 No one can deny that John was madly in love with Yoko, that doesn't mean she wasn't toxic for him. She encouraged his worst tendencies, including getting him hooked on heroin.

It would have happened anyways. George wanted to get his songs out as well
Even if Yoko didn't exist, the Beatles would still have broken up. It was inevitable

After making this video; I have a feeling Allen Klein is one of the worst things to happen to music.
Mick and Keith warned them but they didn’t listen
Carlos M Paul did, he was the only one who didn’t want Allen Klein
@@JamesMaharajOfficial "Hold my beer." - Stan Polley
@@jlobiafra Maybe. Seems Mick may have recommended them initially. Here is some interesting commentary:
"In fact, it has been said that Mick was so pleased with Allen Klein that he recommended him to the Beatles. Derek Taylor, Apple's press officer, remembers Jagger telling the group, "Well, maybe you wouldn't want to go on holiday with Allen, but he'll take care of you."
Marianne Faithfull likewise remembers Jagger speaking positively about Klein to the Beatles, only she alleges that he did it false-heartedly.

Brian Epstein, he was the band's manager he died in the mid 60's. He's often called "the Fifth Beatle"
Great job!!
terrific , terrific job. You hit all the links in the chain, and your emotional investment in the story is evident. thanks for this!
John Lennon said what broke the Beatles was boredom.
The definitive Beatle split video. Well done putting it all together
Incredible analysis. I've seen tens of Beatles documentaries and it had never been so clear. Thanks.
That song at the end was FIRE I hope you make more songs u have my support

I learned that it wasn’t yoko’s fault and I dug the song at the end... kudos to you, sir.

So no it was not only Yoko’s fault but she was a major factor along with John’s
vulnerability-we are all flawed in different ways, they were no different.

I think Rubber Soul marks the beginning of their intention to eventually give up touring. The musical instrumentation was far more studio esque than HELP!
