I once got a call, told them wrong number, hung up, and before I got my hand off the handle, it rang again. I just picked it up and said "If you dialed the wrong number, pressing redial is going to dial the same wrong number." Three seconds of silence, then a click.

When I was a kid I answered my mom's old cell phone and a man demanded 'where are you?!' In a deep angry voice. I meekly answered home and then screamed out to my dad as the man started yelling at me saying I was lying. My dad is not a man to get angry. I got extra ice cream to calm me down though.

      @Amy Neu:
Years ago, I was involved in a similar situation involving a Karen. Mom and dad were still alive. Mom had Alzheimers and needed help using the bathroom. I took Mom and Dad to a casino because they both enjoyed it and Mom would sometimes have certain degree of lucidity while playing the nickel machine. Told the hostess I had to assist Mom in the ladies room, she explained to other women entering. Enter the Karen, who bitched and squawked because I was helping Mom. Apparently she called the police, a lady cop was in there. Told Mom I had to talk to the police officer. Explained Dad was outside in a wheelchair and Mom had Alzheimers. If I go to jail, no one will be there to take care of either. Explained they took care of me as a child, I am trying to repay the favor. Officer told me no one she knew would go this far. As soon as she told me I would not be arrested, the Karen again started to bitch and squawk. The officer's facial expression changed and she tore into the Karen. I only caught part of it as I left the ladies room, was telling her some day she'll be old and need assistance to use the ladies room.

For example, lightly tapping them on the shoulder or, if possible, tapping an object near the person. Text-to-speech on a phone could be useful as well. I don’t think most deaf people are harshly tugging, poking, hitting, etc. to get someone’s attention unless it’s an emergency.

Because women are thought to be less aggressive and capable of sexual harassment thanks to the misogynistic ideas that are forced upon women - modesty (as opposed to slut shaming) and meekness are considered feminine traits and so when the coin is flipped they advantage ill-intentioned women. Story 4 reminds me of an experience my mother had, when the UK phone system first started changing over from operators to direct dialling. Our (three digit, small village) phone number was the same as the first digits of the railway station phone number in a nearby town.
She had several calls one day from a man trying to phone the station, but not using the extra two digits needed to select that city.
She told him to put 93 or whatever its was first, but he ignored it and kept calling out house every few minutes.
After being told again and again that he was not using the correct number, he lost his temper and came out with an unforgettable line:
"I am not dialling the wrong number - You are picking up the wrong phone!"

When I was in college I got my own landline phone and unfortunately for me I got some young woman's old number and this person did not update anyone with their new number. So I kept getting Dr office appointment reminders, dentist reminders, and the woman's parents also called. Her parents kept calling and demanding to speak to their daughter as they were convinced that I was not allowing her to use the phone. I also tried telling the Dr's office and dentist offices about the wrong number but they did not nothing.
So the next time I got a call from the Dr's office I rescheduled the appointment 7 days later but in the early morning. I then also rescheduled the dentist appointment to the same day and time as the doctor appointment.
As for the parents I started answering the phone "Mort's mortuary, you stab'em we slab'em" or in a bad chinese accent "Bung Ho Liquor and Chinese food, this is Uncle Benny speaking" They eventually stopped calling me. And the doctor's office called me and said that I was a bad person for rescheduling the woman's appointment. I told them that they should have listened the first time when I told them that this was the wrong number.

@Enki1013 lookup to see if there is a national do not call list for where you are and add your number there. If the political parties keep calling then answer the phone and take up as much time as you can manage pretending to be interested, than before they finish the call you tell them that you are actually voting for the other party and just wanted to waste their time so they weren't able to reach as many voters as possible. They will probably take your number off their lists after that.

I agree with you 100%. Anyone who even looks like they're wearing ANY kind of uniform, or wearing headphones, or helping someone else MUST be a worker. I also noticed that you used the word, "nice". This word does not exist in the Karen lexicon. Karens also accuse people of lying because that's EXACTLY what they do to get their way so it totally makes sense in their narcissistic brains. That Hank's Roadkill's Cafe story reminds me of a practical joke I pulled in the Army. At night in the orderly room, the charge of quarters and his runner stayed. Someone would have to be in the orderly room, either the CQ or his runner, at all times. The CQ was out doing his rounds, the runner sneaked out to the latrine leaving the orderly room unoccupied. I heard the phone ring. I went in, picked up the phone, and in my best Chicago gangster voice answered, "Good evening, Maggie's Whorehouse, we don't give a f### for nothing." Having pulled CQ runner before, I heard what sounded like the Post Commander on the other end yelling, when I hung up the phone. One of the supply sergeants no one liked was pulling CQ duty that night. I sneaked back into my platoon barracks, pulled off my uniform, and jumped into my rack.
I already had a reputation for practical jokes, but no one could prove I was out of my rack all night. It never got that far because both that CQ and his runner got an Article 15 for dereliction of duty.

Our specials for today are Poodles and Noodles, Road Toad a la Mode, Flat Cat Cakes, served single or stacked, and Dead Deer Delight, with a free side of dirt and gravel! Karen's don't realize you don't want to cause trouble in other countries. If you get into legal trouble they may not let you leave until it's settled. If they do let you leave you may have to come back at your own expense. Laws are different, a misdemeanor at home (pay a fine you're done) could be a felony there (required jail time).

Americans get in trouble here in Finland every once in a while because they carry a knife for self defence. It's illegal here. You are only allowed to carry a knife if you are taking it home from a shop or your work requires you to have it on you. You can have those multitools with like 1-2 inch blade but basically nothing bigger than that. Some people who are used to carrying a blade pack it to their cargo bag and take it out here without realising it's in some cases not even allowed in the country.

Not realizing what she really wanted I said we will leave for church tomorrow close to 9 to make Sunday school. She started screaming how that was inappropriate and to speak to the mortician. I didn't know what she wanted and handed the phone to my grandpa. He listened for a second and tried to explain she had the wrong number a few times. I don't remember what she said but could hear her screaming at him. After at least 2 minutes of trying to help her understand she had the wrong number he just hung up. Almost immediately the phone tang again. Same lady and same again for maybe 2 minutes then he just left the phone on the counter and we went back to watch TV. When I went to get a drink from the kitchen maybe 30 minutes later she was still on the phone screaming how someone needs to help her.

I don't know how close the number was to the local Chinese restaurant since I was the idiot who misdialed it and failed to notice the gentleman didn't answer by saying, "x and y restaurant". I did notice their English improved tremendously since the last time I had called, and this time it was a gentleman instead of the usual lady. But, I'm dense. The gentleman let me place my whole order before saying, "that sounds good, I think I'll have the same" then laughed as I began apologizing.
another one of my misdials was when my kids were in pre-k. I was one of the class mothers. One morning (around 6 or so) we had a school closing so as a class mother I had to call the other kids parents to let them know. Being early and being half asleep I dialed the wrong number. After telling the person who answered the phone that school would be closed for the day he/she (don't recall) told me they didn't have any kids. I was a bit more awake by then before hanging up I told em that, "if you ever have any kids please remember that today was a no school day"

Normally this would not be a huge problem, except when I’m carrying a tray loaded with another table’s order and guess which arm some of these numbskulls grabbed? People, keep your hands to yourself. No food service or retail worker wants or needs to have you touch, grab, or snap your fingers at, them ever. Oh yeah, I have dumped trays on customers because some jerk grabbed me. Unfortunately, it was usually on an innocent person.

I'm fortunate enough to have a phone number nowhere near that of any local businesses [knock wood], but I do sometimes get misdials (as do we all). Almost invariably the caller either realizes his/her mistake immediately or upon asking to speak to whomever and being told regretfully that there's no one here by that name, then apologizes and hangs up.
    Not always, though.
One night I was relaxing in my comfy chair with a glass of wine when my phone rang. I answered 'Hello?' only to have some surly woman snarl 'Who is this?'loudly in my ear. Now, I'm generally very polite, especially over the phone, but I have one big telephonic pet peeve and that happens to be it. It had also been a long day and I was in No Mood, so I said in my most pleasant, professional voice, 'You called me, you figure it out,' and hung up. Silence for about a minute (and another sip of wine) then the phone rang again. Checked the Caller ID, yep, same number. Figured maybe she'd pulled her horns in a bit and was calling to apologize (yeah, no), so I picked up the receiver. Didn't even have the chance to say a word before she launches into a shrieking diatribe about how dare I hang up on HER!? /Okay, b*tch/. With my wineglass, I tapped on the receiver to make a sound like the click of a recording activating, then in my sultriest, sexiest voice purred something like, 'Hellooo, lover. Welcome to Eve's Garden, where all your erotic dreams come true. Press 1 to speak with Candy, press 2 for Tatiana, press -- " she hung up before I got to 3 and that was the last time I ever heard from her.

In several of these "I don't work here" the older Karens pretty much sound as if they had second-stage dementia, which often seems to include anger when the world starts to get confusing to them. I'd guess it can be even worse if the demented person is somebody who has always been bossy and self-centered. But even if not... I wonder what reaction it would get if the person harassed by that type of Karen would start loudly wondering about her obvious dementia, whether she has anybody they could call to come and get her, or if she has slipped out of a care center or escaped from her caretakers. :D
More seriously - with our aging population different forms of dementia have to now be a lot more common occurrence than they used to be, and an older angry woman who doesn't seem to comprehend what is said to her may very well be suffering from it. The stories can be fun to read or listen to but maybe we should feel a bit sorry for the offenders too when it is an older person, in case that is their problem. Dementia has to be a pretty nightmarish disease to deal with.

I've had a few wrong number callers who leave angry rants on my VM (I have Do Not Disturb filtering out calls that aren't on my contacts list when the phone is locked, so the only time I'd answer a random stranger's call is if they happen to call while I'm using my phone to play a game, read email, etc). The closest I've had to a "karen" calling the wrong number and being abusive was some drunk guy demanding to talk to Jennifer and being extremely angry and abusive that I can't put this Jennifer on the line because this isn't her number and I have no clue who she is. I hung up on him and he called back, screaming profanities and threats. So I hung up again and blocked the number.

Even when it comes to asking for id for beer or tobacco purchases everyone is pretty cool about it. If they grumble a bit, I remind them that I’d have to see my own son’s ID before I could sell to him. Even after our registers crashed one day, nobody was truly nasty. Of course in our small town we’re all too used to the internet failing if it’s raining or cloudy or windy or too sunny. But then most of us live pretty local and either know everyone or know someone they know. And while I’m hoping for some juicy stories for Fluff, I’m kinda excited that this job is going so well.

Well let's be honest in story 1 if you're a karen you're probably not the sharpest tool in the shed, so it's not too surprising that they would believe an added "o" might make something Spanish.

IMO a perfect punishment for Karens to force them to admit their mistakes.

You have no idea how many times I've had other customers ask me where something is just because I folded the clothing I was just looking at while shopping. I worked in retail for so long. I NEVER leave something I was looking at unfolded.

I try to put clothes back neatly, but I’m just horrible at folding them. I do my best though.

Story 4: Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. One day in the 90's, I answered a call on a line my parents got for my brother's and I back in the late 80's. This lady asked for a Mary that never lived with us or as far as I knew, never had our number. The old lady said
    Old Lady "Is Mary there?"
Me "There isn't a Mary here, sorry you have the wrong number"
Old Lady "Why would she give me the wrong number?"
Me "I don't know, maybe you wrote it down wrong, dialed it wrong, but she isn't here."
    Then we hung up.

Story 4: That was definitely a Petsmart employee in the late 90s, early 2000s, because that was basically also me and my first job. And YEP, Petsmart paid way better than most jobs at the time. lol

Last story: The supervisor was glad he was working off the clock. This is not a good sign for the employees or the company since it could go bad in many ways.

Hey Fluff, I was thinking the same thing about Mary in the last story. She seems like the kind of manager that you'd want to be your supervisor. I might have taken a part-time job there just because she was so chill 😎. Good for Mary.

Story 5: I'm surprised she didn't jump to the idea that the manager was trying to defend OP. She sounds like the type.
But yeah, if even the manager says that someone doesn't work there, that someone clearly doesn't work there

Sometimes, I think they double down on their mistake because its easier for them than admitting they were wrong.

This story takes place not long after we moved to a new house in a new town back when everyone still had landlines. My phone rang one day, and when I answered it, a man on the other end said, "I want some Viagra.". Me - "Excuse me?"
    Him - "I want Viagra."
Me - "This is my house. I don't have any Viagra. Who are you trying to call?"
Him - drug store (pharmacy) in another town
I got out my new phone book and looked it up. In America, phone numbers are 10 digits. A 3 digit area code (large area), a 3 digit prefix (smaller area), and a 4 digit subscriber number which is unique to each telephone line. In this case, the number he was calling had the same area code and same subscriber number as mine, but a different prefix. Also the two towns, along with several other small towns, were all in the same phone book. If you look in the yellow pages for something, it would be easy to make that mistake. Once I told him the new number, he apologized and thanked me.
I did get several more calls occasionally for the pharmacy, but everyone was nice.

This entire Reddit thread reminds me of the fact that I spent the better part of circa 1992 thru 2020 as a local Chinese restaurant. To elaborate, my home phone, now cell number contains the exact same 10 digit phone number as this restaurant, with only the prefix being in a slightly different order. At it's peak, I was averaging about 6 phone calls per week looking for this Chinese restaurant. Majority of the calls were from the surrounding towns with a sprinkling from NY. They basically stopped when they moved to a different town and got a new number.

3:55 I wish she had seen some unexpexted "private parts" and being banned for
$€xual harrasment, stalking, breach of privacy.....
OR even incriminated herself more if she tried to sue those poor people (minding their business literally)
for " indecent exposure" or whatever...
Idk, I am searching for a term - but it won't come to mind right as I need it ( as usual) and also I am not too familiar what is a felony and what the lesser charges are called... ( another phrase that's stuck in my mind) ....ugh.
    I hate when that happens.
    Funny thing is :
the longer we were in lockdown again and again,
I cant often find the exact word I try to remember in Austrian/ German , my first language !
Obviously because I spent so much more time on the internet commenting in English, then talking to "real" people around me
( maybe 1 hour compared to 8 hours online)
( Yes I am a lonely looser and didn't visit my parents for weeks , when the zone I life in - a city, was dark RED,
aka had the highest infection rate in the state, because they and I are in the highest risk group.
So locking yourself in and only go out to buy groceries for half a hour was the norm for at least 19 months .
