Story 3: "So your response to a customer harassing another customer is to start harassing the customer as well, because it's easier to harass me too than it is to deal with the actual problem?"
Holy heck, good on OP for not agreeing to that nonsense. Just because they're the voice of reason in that story doesn't mean that they're going to just go along with whatever the manager proposes, *especially* if it makes them look like the sole bad guy in the story, rather than the victim. These Karens really make it difficult for us normal folks who just want to politely ask an obviously knowledgeable person who is also shopping at the hardware store their opinion about something. The employees are usually clueless.
Twice I was lucky enough to find a customer who knew the answer to my question, but I always approach with, "I'm really sorry to bother you, I know you don't work here but I can see you are a professional, do you know if there's an adaptor to make this work? (I bring in the ensemble I'm trying to install). I don't ask for much, and thank them for their time.
One gave me his card, and I hired him later to do some electrical work on my solar panels. Really nice guy who brought his young son with him to my very remote rural property and charged me less than his usual rate because his son got to cuddle some adorable baby goats.
      Kindness is the way.

So I just said "excuse me ma'am (21 year Marine here), can I please help you?" She hesitated and said yes and she was so sorry. The poor lady apologized 100 times. It was nothing for me to help her for 3 minutes. She tried to give me money. I said, "What? No. Don't be silly." What kind of world do we live in that an 87 year old lady apologizes for something as simple as putting groceries in her truck? She finally said, "Ok darling...I'll feel better if I can tell my daughter a random girl just helped me with my shopping." I was confused because she looked so out of sorts.
I didn't realize I had grabbed some big flour bags for her 20 minutes earlier. I never looked at the person who had asked if I could grab the flour. It was the same lady.

ALWAYS press charges. Take them for everything you can get. Anyway, respect has to be earned. BUT, there is a basic level of respect everyone gets by default, if you don't know them/haven't interacted with them, until they show that they either deserve real respect, or don't. That basic level of default respect is basically "don't be a dick without a reason".

His wife asked him to shop so that she could make funeral arrangements for their son. 2. Woman having fit for not finding candy apples. She leaves and OP finds that he is parked near her. She is crying hard. OP finds out she had promised her granddaughter candy apples for her birthday, so OP told her where to get the ingredients to make them. 3. OP tells about 3 times older women helped him with cooking tips. He shared them with readers. The one about the boiling water over the tofu is my favorite.

I used to be a float teller at a local bank chain for several years so I worked at several bank locations while working at my main branch. I happen to do my main banking at another competitor bank entirely (they had better interest rates) and was there on my day off doing my family banking. An entitled customer that I’ve done banking for for years walks in, noticed that there was a huge line, then noticed me in line (in jeans and a tee instead of my usual business attire), and noticed I was next, walks over, throws me his banking including a large amount of cash and says, “here! Do, this! I’ll be waiting in the waiting area for my receipts and hurry up since I’m in a rush!”
I am gobsmacked at his arrogance and entitlement and hollered, “HEY, THIS IS NOT X BANK, BUT XX BANK! AND I DO NOT WORK HERE! I AM A CUSTOMER HERE! IF YOU WANT TO GIVE ME FREE MONEY GREAT!!! OTHERWISE TAKE YOUR BANKING AND GET IN LINE AT THE BACK AND WAIT YOUR TURN LIKE THE REST OF US YOU ENTITLED ASS! IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T NOTICED, WE ARE ALL IN A RUSH!”
Of course he gets in my face and screams the infamous, “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!?” line and I come back with “OMG! You don’t know WHO YOU ARE? How awful! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO THIS MAN IS? He doesn’t seem to know who he is!!! Call an ambulance, he’s obviously had a head injury if he can’t remember who he is!
He says that I’m a bank employee and I need to do my job and his banking and I say yes, when I’m on duty at X bank I’m more than happy to do his banking, but this is an entirely different bank chain and I’m on my day off therefore he needs to do his own banking just like any other customer. The bank manager comes over and I explain the situation and excuse myself to do my banking and leave. The following week he comes into my main branch and raises such a stink that my manager kicks him out. I have to re-explain what happened and my boss just started laughing. That customer was eventually banned from our branch for verbal and physical harassment. An Uber-Karen/ken at his finest. 😂
