U.s soldiers and south Vietnamese troops fought side by side in many battles. The first American troops who landed on the da nang beaches were greeted with open arms. The war was winning able. Hopefully you fought an honorable fight, and came home to deal with the ghosts who followed you home from combat.

I just wanna thank all Vietnam Vets watching this video. You did what you could for my people in South Vietnam and we are forever grateful for your support in the war. It's a damn shame that the commies took over in '75 after American soldiers left; however, it's an honor for my people to have been given the opportunity to become Americans after fleeing to the states. We still protest the communist government of Vietnam even today as Vietnamese Americans. Long live America and the free world!
The people of Vietnam really chose communism. Before USA involvement an election was held but the CIA wouldn't let the south vote because they knew Ho Chi Minh would be elected.
What a joke. You kill your own countrymen, divide your own country, then abandon your own country, to live your life fighting to be accepted by people who hate you. As a maori in new zealand our people fought british imperial troops outnumbered 20 to 1, still we fought. Those like you, who helped the enemy, were called kupapa, traitors, cowards. Just like you.
In 1970, the Army had 65,643 deserters, or roughly the equivalent of four infantry divisions. This desertion rate (52.3 soldiers per thousand) was well over twice the peak rate for Korea (22.5 per thousand). It was more than quadruple the 1966 desertion-rate (14.7 per thousand). WWII peak was 63 per thousand, which, incidentally, occurred in the same year (1945) when more soldiers were actually being discharged from the Army for psychoneurosis than were drafted.

Have you ever heard of this thing called: World War I in Europe. 100% pointless. No gains, and just caused the other conflict, which was technically just as useless, and caused by the first one.
Almost every war fought in Europe was over who was going to be king starting with Rollo, the king of the Normans who took France from the Franks. That's around 850CE.
Vietnam was not useless because we should have kept the communists out of south Vietnam just like we did with South Korea and look at South Korea today under a free market. That is where Samsung came from for example. Had North Korea taken over it would have been lost and poor all these years. So in Vietnam we only lost for think two major factors, the media coverage showing the people back home the brutality of war and making America look bad. Plus, the politicians back home not staying out of it and letting generals win it for us.
Yesterday I learned that my grandfather not only served in Vietnam but also rose to the rank of SFC. His brother was a FLO in WWII. I truly wish I could've met him. But I'm honored to carry on his bloodline. THANK YOU TO ALL THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN THAT FIGHT TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM.
You're right about 'Nam. The terms of engagement were severely limited to the point of making victory practically unobtainable. For example: during WW2, imagine if Germany was limited to fighting France only up to the French border or something like that. 'Nam was a "war"/armed conflict by definition, but a very limited 1. In Gulf War 1, the coalition wasn't allowed to take Baghdad. In Gulf War 2, they were. If allowed, the USA could have taken Hanoi & or every major city in in N. Vietnam
This war wasn’t about North Vietnam vs USA. But rather China/USSR vs USA. The weapons that the NVA/VC were using were giving by the 2 communist powerhouse. without their aid North Vietnam would be gone or maybe South Vietnam is still exist today.
I doubt it ....they lost the hearts and minds of the local population ....doesn't matter how many bombs dropped .....the Vietnamese became increasingly resilient and wouldn't have been defeated. The first thing the US did was install an unpopular and corrupt president in the south ....then proceeded to burn villages and kill thousands of innocent civilians . It was a long pointless war .....
Bcuz they were afraid of China jumping in, like during Korea. So it was limited , to avoid fighting China troops as well as nva/vc. Was a quagmire in se Asia.
No, I'm pretty sure we lost the ground battle also. The enemy was in front AND behind the American/South Vietnamese lines. Heck, the enemy was also below American battle lines in their intricate tunnel systems. Most of the time the American and South Vietnamese troops can't differentiate who was Vietcong and who was not. Modern technology didn't overcome guerilla warfare.

My grandfather was drafted in 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee. Anyone knows what boot camp he would have went to? Trying to find as much information as I can about him, he passed away in 2009 and didn’t talk about the war with me much. I do recall stories of him telling us about being behind the “big guns with huge shells” I am assuming some form of Howitzer? What was the life of a Howitzer gunner like? His grave states he was an SP4. I recall him telling me stories of living on base in Seattle, I can’t remember if it was before or after the war. I wish I had tried to speak to him about this more before he passed

This is scripted for the camera/documentary. One of the soldiers wrote a book abt his experiences. That "General" that was leading up front was also scripted. The soldiers were told to do this long after the enemy had left.

+Nikola Bakich get your history straight buddy. It was 58,000. America didn't invaded they were asked for military support. U.s soldiers and south Vietnamese troops fought side by side in many battles. The first American troops who landed on the da nang beaches were greeted with open arms. The war was winning able. American had the south on lock down. A full on invasion of the north would secured a total victory. But America only wanted the north to leave their southern brothers alone

As one who was there with the 1st 327 Inf. I think I speak for anyone who has fought in war. Like politics "All War is local". You have little to nothing to say about the whys of a war starting. You are a soldier who has pledged to fight for a country that you love. In Battle you fight to stay alive, protect your buddy, and accomplish the mission.

The most pointless war in all of history. What's waste of human life on both sides.
Have you ever heard of this thing called:
World War I in Europe. 100% pointless. No gains, and just caused the other conflict, which was technically just as useless, and caused by the first one.
Major Momo The second world war was not useless. The Nazis took over most of europe and were commiting mass genocide. They had to be stopped.
Almost every war fought in Europe was over who was going to be king starting with Rollo, the king of the Normans who took France from the Franks. That's around 850CE.
@Doppler Then he said that WW2 was useless as well.
