    Hey guys, I just realized that I made a typo in the Stats: the Baby Raccoon's Total Travel is 3.6mm.
    Sorry for the mistake!

    I really like the oil kings with their sound based mostly in lower frequencies.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they provide a nice deep thock! I'll check them out with slightly more lube - to see if the thocc freq can get any lower.

    Thanks for giving me more knowledge about the oil kings. The first switches I've tried were the jwick blacks, and they didn't sound as good as the oil kings. Thanks again!

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm just about trying the jwick blacks, thanks for the info, then I won't get my hopes up too much 😅 Though if they could create something similar to Oil King for less than half the price, that would be still impressive ^^

    The only switches I have tried are the Gateron Pro Milky Yellows and I must say that they are an excellent choice for a budget switch. I prefer a deeper/thocky sound profile and these sound really great. I have really been considering getting some oil kings in the future, though!

    • @thoccnology

      Yes, they are an excellent budget choice! :) Do you use them stock or lubed?

      Went from milky yellows to oil kings and I can’t recommend the oil kings enough. Didn’t think I’d find one I liked as much as milky yellows but the oil kings are by far my favorite.

      I'm glaid it could help you choose. 😊 All of them are quite top quality switches with their own strength - but I think the Oil King is always a safe bet!

    I have Milky Yellows in a GMK65, they sound and feel amazing. I have a set of Oil Kings to put in my Neo65 when it gets here and I'm excited to try them out. Currently running WS Morandi in my main 2 keyboards, trying linear from the Glorious Pandas I've been using for a while now. They and the Milky Yellows may turn me into a Linear fan. Only negative on the Morandi is the stem wobble, not too bad with Cherry profile but very significant when using taller ones and when putting the caps on. Fantastic video, can't wait to get these Oil Kings installed!

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, thank you for your insight! I always wanted to try the Morandis, I found them beautiful sounding.
      Are they similar to the Milky Yellows in feel?

    • @MarbsMusic
      @MarbsMusic 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thoccnology Yes but a little smoother and they are long stem so the travel is slightly reduced as well. As I've used Glorious Pandas as my primary for a while the less travel with no bump means these are super easy to type on. So much so I feel silly at times just typing on Monkeytype for way to long just to enjoy the experience!

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MarbsMusic That sounds convincing. At the moment the Vertex V One and the BSUN Akashi has got me there - waiting for any opportunity to start typing on them!

    I have the Oil Kings and honestly, they're one of the best switches I've ever used. I'm getting some Baby Raccoon switches within the next few days to see if they're any better. Thank you for the work you put into this review.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you'll like the Baby Raccoons too then. :) In my opinion, they're quite similar, but maybe because of the PC upper house it feels a bit more 'tighter' in a good way (if it makes sense).

    • @-daigher-2549

      @CDeeez94 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@-daigher-2549 They are good switches and after a day or two of typing and gaming on them, I got used to them but if I had to compare them with Oil Kings, I would go with the Oil Kings. That is not to say that you or someone else would not like these switches because they are very good!

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@-daigher-2549 For me the Baby Raccoons are quite similar to the Oil Kings - in a good way, because those are one of the most popular Gaterons for a reason - in sound but they have an even more 'tighter' feeling to the typing (I guess it might because of the PC upper housing). So yeah, they are one of my go-to linears, quite pleasant to type on. :)

      Yes, I'm going for the oil king too! Oh and quick advice, Don't touch the stem, the factory lube is pretty good already but mostly because the stem is polished, which is why it's smooth. Lube the rest of the parts but the stem, but if you need to lube it, do it carefully. Good luck on ur build! I'm still waiting for mine to arrive

  • @erikberkemanvinnerborg91

    even though the milky yellows are prelubed i highly recommend lubing them, as they sound less clacky and more soft and smooth, and the springs stop echoing

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, a small corrective lubing can go a long way! (I just wanted to show the stock sounds and where someone can start from in case using it out-of-box)

    Gat Yellow Pro 2.0 vs North Pole 2.0 ? What would you recommend ?

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you prefer a smooth, budget switch choose the Gat Yellow Pro 2.0 - but if you plan to use a silent build then definitely go for the North Pole 2.0!

  • @stickhatmihx984

    How can you describe the difference between Oil Kings and North Pole v2s?

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Soooo much difference - with the Oil Kings it's like a nice, firm type feel yet quite similar to any standard switches. But with the North Poles I definitely can feel that the stem arrives into a piece of rubber, very interesting!

  • @slaughtered777

    Newbie question - do the switches normally have the led inside them or is it on the board itself?

    • @Gutek313
      @Gutek313 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The board has the LEDs on it, but if you want the lights to shine through your keycaps, provided you get those, you might want to choose a more clear switch like the north pole ones

  • @Smexhy
    @Smexhy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really looking in to buy Baby Racoon or Kangaroo ones, what do you think about them? Were you actively using them as main switches at any point? Oil Kings are nice as well, but no RGB is kind of deal breaker for me.

    • @ronniekregar3482

      The BBK's are the best switches I ever used. I never tried the racoons, I don't like linears.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I only used the Raccoons (I don't have the Kangaroos), and they're very good (a bit pricey though). I had very bad experience with the OIl Kings, two different batch got very pingy and scratchy after a short time.
      My go-to brands now are BSUN and HMX, they are far more affordable and better quality in general.

      To be honest, they're smoother with stock lube already.

    • @thoccnology
      @thoccnology  ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel that the polycarbonate top housing of the Raccoon gives it a more 'harder', stiffer feeling and a slightly higher pitched sound. The Oil King is quite similar, but it has a 'softer' feeling to it.
