      I had the worst experience having a Kia car. This was my first time I chose Kia because I liked the car that I was going to lease. The previous two cars that I drove were Toyota and they never ever gave me problems that usually an older car gives (one Problem on top of another). Imagine you trust the company, you get a brand new car thinking that “hey it’s a new car. I’m not going to have all the problems that old cars give" and then one day you wake up, your car is not starting, the next day brake lights don’t work, the following week another problem comes up.

      @Jose Alberto Rosa-Suliveres mazda is half owned by toyota since 2015 so these new cx-5 generation 2017 and up have alot of internal toyota parts and sensors which for durability is a great thing. they are half mazda original parts and half toyota since prior to 2015 mazda was half owned by ford and used ford parts which made there durability a little shoddy. like mazdas were known for transmission issues for a while and its because they didnt have their own gearbox like they do in the 2015 and up cars they used a GM gearbox

    Odd comparison. Outside of the engine, they don't compete. CX-5 is a compact, lighter SUV, whereas the Sorento is a mid-size SUV. The CX-9 has the same turbo as the CX-5 and would be a closer comparison.

    • @brandonczw
      @brandonczw 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      but the CX-9 is quite a bit bigger than the Sorento. If we’re talking apples to apples comparison, it would be Telluride vs CX-9 or Sportage vs CX-5.

      @@brandonczw the third row in the Telluride has more height and hence can be used for adults unlike the 3rd row in CX-9 and Sorento which has a low height and can be used by kids only. Also, the Telluride has far more cargo room with the third row up. A better comparison would have been the CX-9.

    • @SharapovaFan
      @SharapovaFan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The CX-9 wouldn't stand a chance either, considering it's the same engine as on the CX-5 that just lost to the Sorento. I think it's down to the transmission really. The Kia's dual clutch just translates to more power on the wheels than the torque converter on the Mazda.

    The Sorento's loose ride is because of the softer suspension. It's actually better for soaking up bumps in the road. Mazda suspensions can feel a little stiff when pavement starts getting bumpy but is better for taking corners. It depends what is more your preference: a smooth ride, or tighter handling.

Better horsepower and torque, refined styling and driver feel. The taller, boxier Sorento makes more sense for me because as a saltwater fisherman, I can fit more gear and ice chests in a car like that versus the Mazda. That said, really curious about the hybrid, would allow me to daily the car without feeling guilty about using so much gas. Also, with 600 miles of range, it means less times going to the gas station in general, which is always a good thing when you save time out of your busy day.

    • @bmwxpicasso
      @bmwxpicasso 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recently bought a Lexus NX300 hybrid, and it doesn't save that much gas if you are mostly driving on the freeway. The only reason why you have gas in the city driving is because they really limit the take off when you are at a stop. The impatient idiots behind you with a gas car will start tailgating or honking at you. Once it gets going, it drives as quickly as a gas car. Interesting comparison. I do not think they are direct competitors but each car is in unique position due to their engines, etc. CX-5 is technically in the same class as Tucson, Sportage, RAV4, Rogue, etc. However its turbo engine at higher trims really separates it from the class. Maybe its direct competitor would be Tucson N line (if they decide to make one) or the top trim Sportage. I can't really think of a direct competitor of Sorento other than Santa Fe, which is pretty much the same car from the mechanical point. Tiguan has similar size, etc but it is comparable only at lower trims of Sorento due to the power. I've test driven both cars and for me Sorento was my pick but not because of the ride quality. CX-5 was tad more fun to drive but I guess it was because of the size difference between the two. They both ride great but technologies in Sorento fit my needs much better. The latest CX-5 we get in Canada has previous version of infotainment with horrible 360 view and laggy software. Their latest infotainment comes with much better cameras and response is much quicker but it is not a touch screen. I guess it comes down to personal preferences in the end. Some people don't really care about cameras and stuffs but for me, having a good touch screen with good 360 view are two of the things I definitely need to have for a family car like these.

    This guy is biased. CX5 looks better than Sorento? I think he was joking. Also, the Sorento does not need 91 octane to develop it's full power but the CX5 needs it because then it will only put out 227hp. Running on premium gas 100% of the time will cost you and even then the Sorento is the winner for most hp. Kia is the winner for looks, technology and better hp.

      As a 2021 CX-5 (non-turbo but it doesn't factor into my argument) I HAVE comment on the 'Soul Red' paint.
      It is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING and a major, probably a top 3 criteria, reason I chose it but, beware, and IDK if this is a 'systemic' problem or what but.... it chips, etc fairly easily. From sand, dust and dirt on the hwy and superficial scratches; which sucks because, as I said, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that color!
      But I've also heard/ read that this is a problem with THAT color paint.
      (Also, I had the 'Simoniz Clear Coat' option done at the dealership and i have a nagging 'suspicion' that THAT may be a partial cause, surprisingly!)

    For the record, at 189.4" in length the Sorento is firmly within a large group of smaller midsize mainstream crossovers that range from 188" to 192" in length. Those vehicles include the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Ford Edge, the Subaru Outback, the Nissan Murano, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Chevy Blazer, the Toyota Venza, etc. Altogether about 17 separate model with every mainstream manufacturer except Mazda offering a vehicle in the sub-category. A second group of larger midsize vehicles come from all those manufacturers, plus Mazda that range in length from 195" (Highlander) to 204" (Chevy Traverse) and includes vehicles like the category averages about 181" in length represented by vehicles like the RAV4, CRV, Equinox, Forester, and Rogue among others with the VW Tiguan being the largest "compact" crossover at 185" long.*
    What distinguishes the Sorento from its competitors in the smaller midsize category is simply its standard third row seating, a unique feature in the group. Otherwise, however, it is closely related to its corporate sibling the very similar Hyundai Santa Fe and in terms of size it's definitely an midsize crossover by American standards. By the same token, the Mazda CX-5 is obviously a compact crossover both in size and price. Though some consumers might cross shop the Sorento and the CX-5, comparing them is akin to evaluating an apple vs a pineapple.
    The absurdity of the comparison is clearest in the discussion of cargo space in the two vehicles. (4:13) where the CX-5 is characterized as having "tons" of space behind the second row. The actual specs tell a different story. The KIA Sorento has 38.4 cubic ft of cargo space behind the second row compared to 30.9 cf in the Mazda. In terms of total cargo space behind the first row the Sorento offers 75.5 cubic ft vs the CX-5's 59.6 cf, an overall difference of nearly 27%. Of course, that's not surprising considering that the Sorento is about 10" longer than the CX-5 and KIA is especially adept at interior packaging but to imply that the Sorento's advantage lies solely in having 3rd row seating is simply ridiculous.
    All I can say is that Sam's definition of midsize and full size crossovers is unique to say the least. His claim that most midsize SUVs don't offer a third row (4:45) ignores the conventional inclusion of everything from a Toyota Highlander to a Subaru Ascent, a Honda Pilot, a KIA Telluride, a Hyundai Palisade, a Nissan Pathfinder, a Ford Explorer, a VW Atlas, a Dodge Durango, etc.
    In short, the CX-5 has its strengths as does the Sorento but they're simply no more comparable vehicles than a CX-5 and a VW Cross Sport.
    * Although the Tiguan is typically considered to be a compact crossover in America it is seen as a midsize vehicle in Europe where the Atlas and Cross Sport are not even sold and the largest VW sold is the Touareg, a vehicle 192" in length that would be considered "midsize" in North America.
    ** The VW Cross Sport is something of an outlier as well. It's 195.5" long, about 1.5" longer than the Highlander, the smallest of the larger midsize group but limited to two rows of seats. And unlike other 2 row vehicles that are half a foot or more shorter than their 3 row cousins, the Cross Sport is only about 3" shorter than its larger sibling the Atlas.
