      I think the CX-9 has a lot going for it, but I'm really interested in a Sorento Hybrid. I like the fact that I could go around 600 miles between fill-ups.

    I have owned both a KIA Sorento & a CX-9 (both I was pumped to own), but Mazda dealership experience & repair shop/warranty experience was much better by leaps and bounds! Plus safety ratings of the CX-9 are better than a Sorento

    Interesting comparison, I would have never thought of testing these two vehicles side by side. I test drove the CX9 along with the other 3-row SUVs in its class and found that the CX9 had better build quality, quality of interior materials, clean dash layout and better driving dynamics than the others, so we bought a '21 CX9 Grand Touring AWD. Just to add to your initial MPG ratings at the openning of this video, we got 22.4 mpg in January, 24.2 in February and so far in April 25.2 all city driving. Haven't taken it on a road trip yet. A couple of zonks for me include no hood struts and no 110 volt outlet. Does it have as much interior room as the Kia/Hyundai twins? No, but it doesn't look or drive like a minivan either.

    We've had two Sorentos and are in the process of buying a new one. We previously had a Mercedes SUV but the Sorento seemed to offer us much more at a less price. We've been totally surprised at the quality, comfort, and reliability. A great vehicle.

    Thanks for the comparative review. I was decided to buy the CX9 until seeing this. I feel like Cx9 is classic and outdated. The only major change is the new infotainment screen. To keep up with the competition, I guess Mazda will renew CX9 soon just like what they're planning with CX5. Overall craftsmanship though, I still find the Mazda better built quality. Feels more durable but that's just me. I'm no expert

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right! As I said in the video, the Mazda has really good interior materials for the price point. The infotainment system is still the older one for us here in Canada but at least if you're in the United States you have the new one. I'm sure that Mazda will be giving the CX-9 a complete refresh within the next year or two. Maybe it'll have the new Inline-6 engine that they're developing ;)

    Unfortunately the reason I was in the market for a new vehicle is that I was in an accident and my Honda Odyssey was totalled. Safety ratings were at the top of my list when comparing vehicles. The Sorento only gets a 4-star safety rating, which took it off my list. I have had my 2019 CX-9 for about a week and could not be happier with my choice. It is a dream to drive.

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mazda always makes excellent driving cars. I can't wait to see their next generation of vehicles in the next couple of years. They also just recently received Top Safety Pick+ on all of their SUV models from the IIHS so they're very safe too. IIHS gave the Sorento a Top Safety Pick but without the "+".

    I'd choose the Mazda! Mazda is so elegant that I'll never get tired of the design! Mazda is more reliable too. KIA is kinda heh? I mean its a new car with all the bells and whistles but kinda too cheap on interior.

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sorento is available in white but this particular trim of the CX-9 is not available in white. You have to go up to the Signature trim (or go with the GT trim) in order to get the white exterior paint. Both have ambient lighting but it's very subtle. Not as "in your face" as Mercedes-Benz ambient lighting.

    Odd. MT, Motorweek and C&D have the Kia as much faster than the Mazda….?

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  ปีที่แล้ว

      My gf and I did an unscientific test of these together and I always found myself behind the CX-9 in the Sorento. I even got the jump on an occasion but the CX-9 just caught up before we needed to brake. So yes I noticed the times differences too in Motortrend and other publications, but I always found the CX-9 being and feeling faster.
      But honestly, looking back at this video, 2 years later, I'm realizing the 0-60 times are pointless for these types of vehicles. The difference between the two is not like the difference between a Lambo and a Civic. Both of these are quick 3-row SUVs in their own right and a sane person will probably never care about half a second difference in quarter mile time on these types of vehicles.

    When you say the CX is faster, wouldn’t that be based on the torque, not the HP if you’re talking 0-60, if so then that would be true with 320lbs compared to 311lbs. Unless you’re comparing using complete regular fuel in the tank of the CX. I’ll trade you, you can have the 10.25 infotainment screen in the Mazda, I’ll take the heated rear seats, memory front seats, rear passenger sunshades which don’t come in my US versionSX X-Line which I don’t understand. All of those were in my 2016 Sorento but not this one. I feel like Kia is tempting buyers into getting the telluride if you want those features that bad.

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if it's because of the higher torque figure or better transmission gear ratios, but my friend and I did an "un-scientific" test of 0-100 km/h (62 mph) between the two and the Mazda always came on top. (closed off area of course). Even during a roll from around 50 km/h to 100 km/h, the Mazda was still faster which really surprised me from looking at the specs on paper.
      I would gladly take the 10.25" screen in the CX-9. But markets are slightly different between the U.S. & Canada. Some stuff that is standard here, is only optional in the US. Maybe Kia doesn't think that heated rear seats or other options would be that popular? Or maybe you're right, they want people to move to the Telluride if they really want those features.
      Thanks for watching!

      I wouldn't say "in vain" because I'd still pick the CX-9 over the Sorento thanks to its better driving dynamics. But overall the newer product is slightly better in other categories and Mazda needs to play catch up.

      The Rav4 is not a comparable model to these two. It's smaller and only has 2 rows of seats rather than 3. But a comparable Toyota model to these two would be the new Highlander which I reviewed last year.
      th-cam.com/video/KyHJw15eIXQ/w-d-xo.html
      The Rav4 is more comparable against the Honda CR-V or Nissan Rogue or Mazda CX-5. I'll see if I can make a comparison review with those cars in the future.
