We went to AliExpress to find parts to create janky headphones. Yep, that’s right. We thought we could compete with the likes of Sennheiser, Apple, Bose and Sony by creating our on 3d printed headphones using materials purchased from the AliBaba marketplace. And naturally, we needed someone impartial to test the cans, so we got our good friend Dankpods to come out and give em a listen!

Heads up: The Satyr 1 design by Capra Audio is a really fun project that can be printed and assembled in a weekend and will leave you with a very well regarded pair of headphones (when you follow their instructions and use the recommended materials, Capra Audio makes that very clear).
We decided to use parts from AliExpress and no instructions to troll Dankpods.

I hope you get the chance to do a video in the future, showing off a bunch of properly assembled DIY headphone designs and how they perform against each other and consumer products. Featuring designs built to spec from the likes of Capra Audio and head(amame).
I think that would be an interesting video, also showing how DIY can offer strong performance for the price.

It was only a matter of time with Dank Pods making good content on Floatplane, him going to LTX, LTT labs having an audio testing set up, and Dankpods' general charisma and increasing popularity on TH-cam
Wade came out of absolute nowhere at the perfect time. He's got a charisma that never ends and he covers so many different categories of content that he's got a bit for everyone.
i really dig this guy's energy. he's wild and fun, and really enjoys the content he's making. top shelf

I like what's happening with LTT at the moment. After all the controversy, it's like they reset, slowed down a bit and started making videos again that don't always focus on specs and look at other ways to have fun with tech like they used to. For a few years there, they focused on too much tech specs, pumped out to many videos and lost sight of their original goals. It's good to see them back in action like this.

It's really too niche for LTT, and it already has a few other channels that deal with it. Same as the Dayton's or Marty's for subwoofers
@@benwu7980 but they’ve built cool custom before like the all wood PC. A only semi janky Bluetooth speaker, various custom cases.
They have the knowledge and equipment in house to do something cool. Why not show off a little and show what can be done for those that don’t mind a few hobbies. I miss the builder/maker content we used to get more of.
If they had just followed the instructions and used the correct parts it would have been a high quality version.

This was a fun (and cringy) video to watch. Building and tuning headphones are a lot more complicated than it may seem, especially when going in blind, but it's super rewarding.
Also, I love that you guys had Wade on as well. He's sparked an interest in audio in a lot who otherwise may not have been that interested in it before.
Also... Capra Audio deserved better. Next time, follow the instructions. 😂

Satyr 1 is a hell of an achievement. Perhaps instead of doing what you fellows normally do and just leave it as "sounding bad because we didn't follow the instructions" you can actually make a pair correctly and see what people actually think of what is easily the best DIY headphone out there.
What's the point of having all these people in labs if they don't use them
It kinda sucks because to the average viewer, it seems almost like a dunk on the headphones and associating them with just cheap AliExpress headphone parts that don't sound good.
@@sidesaladaudio Well, I don't think the "average" viewer will have the skill required to make something like these DIY headphones. The skilled ones that are going to try replicating this project however, will surely know that selecting the right drivers is the most important step.
Also, if you're after advanced audio projects, I can definitely recommend the diy speakers from DIY Perks, that's definitely a good (complex) project.
@@mryo-yobzh9485 Everyone starts somewhere, and these are a great entry point for someone who has a 3D printer but wants to get into electronics. Realistically the kind of person who would likely make something like this wouldn't be an expert in making headphones, but someone who loves DIY and making cool things. The best thing about satyr 1 is that Capra have put together excellent instructions that someone would be hard pressed to fuck up, unless of course they wanted to do so intentionally for some reason.
