@@kamilslup7743 I believe grip is not the same as turning radius. Grip involves how much lateral speed on which surface causes your machine to start sliding, as opposed to how tight it turns. Like, the falcon and the fox have great tight turns, and the goose does not, and neither does the stingray, but the stingray doesn't slide much (nor does the goose, to be fair) and their turning radius at max speed is ass. You need to brake or let off the gas or pump the gas or pump the brakes or whatever, some combo of those taps, to get better turns out of the tanky vehicles. There's also advanced turning tricks with the shoulder buttons that I am in no way competent enough to use well enough that it would improve my shitty play that is S12 ranked for no reason at all except persistence.
Not just relevant, but more popular than ever. I never really got into F-Zero when I was younger, but I've been enjoying 99 immensely. I think I'm not alone either. For a whole generation, this game is their intro to F-Zero

I've beaten lythero once and been in GPB lobby once but I fumbled and crashed out even got lucky bumper but spawned where everyone used the dirt road in mute city 1 so didn't really block anyone in the lead.
I'm maining the Blue Falcon because I like how it looks. And also because I really want its black paintjob. (My one win so far was in a Mini Prix, so I didn't get it.) EDIT: I finally got it! Thank you, Red Canyon Skyway!
@@Mordecrox Its less that they nerfed the jump itself and more that they buffed how long you're in the air. 99 keeps you in the air slightly longer than SNES-Zero which makes the speed requirement to make the jump without holding down less strict. The jump was already going to be easier just because of the game being less slippery and the F-Zero X boost. I don't think it was a conscious choice to specifically nerf White Land II compared to just being a general game change that ended up making the jump less intimidating. Of course, by the time White Land II shows up in the Grand Prix, most of the noobs have been eliminated so very few of those remaining 20 will be the type who will die at the old jump.
@@GerhardTreibheit While its easier, it does still have a hard speed limit for safely crossing, and even with 20 players, all it takes is one of them or the bumpers ramming you into a wall before the jump to choke your speed to dangerous levels.
@@TeknanamThis actually happened to me the 1st time I made the finals in the Queen League GP. I accidently hit a grey bumper just before the jump, and it killed my speed so much I ended up crashing out. I was heartbroken.
To be honest the only course I found the Golden Fox useful in is Mute City I. The variability in the amount of energy you lose each lap on any other course, maybe beside for Death Wind I, makes it unreliable at best. The Fire Stingray is the only machine I've been able to consistently finish near the top and is the only one I've won races with, and that was after doing Blue Falcon and Golden Fox for 2 weeks with no success.

I just can't deal with how good Fire Stingray's traction is. Doing those little skid drifts with the Blue Falcon and Golden Fox gives me that sweet neuron activation.
There should be one for exploding after crossing the finish line but before the trigger activates in a GP, this negating whole progress; I had finished White Land I, and it felt like the biggest middle finger Nintendo could give me.
It was one of my favorite tracks on the SNES but in 99 . . . it is only playable online through grand prix, making it one of the rarest tracks to race on. I wish they add it to Pro Tracks.

Wild Goose is legit easy mode. Maybe not the most popular pick because people like consistently going fast, but there's a lot to be said about never getting pushed around and being able to shrug off all the crap life throws at you. basically Every other machine just has better acceleration and recovery, meaning that they can get to top speed faster and they can boost more often. The Fire Stingray has a lot of trouble catching up to the other racers at the beginning because (without KOs) it can really only boost one time per lap and it's top speed doesn't make up for how often the other racers (especially the golden fox) are boosting.
They made boosting with Fire Stingray cost more energy than other machines. That nerf is a huge part of it since Stingray relies on boosting to reach full speed due to the poor acceleration.
It does have it's advantages for me at least, I have read someone calling it a discounted Golden Fox but as a main of that vehicle I notice very hard the better handling of the Falcon in comparison xd. You cannot spam Turbo that much but it standard speed is higher, which do matters a lot on maintaining your place without relying on turbos if you are low on energy or find yourself on a tight turn such as the multiple ones in Sand Ocean. Not saying that the Blue Falcon is better, but is not "meh", when I first started I thought that, but after maining Fox a lot and having tested the other 2, you learn to identify Blue Falcon strength (being okay at everything). IMO is not a vehicle you should use until you learn to play any of the other 3, is a decent ship on it's own.
Falcon's the jack of all trades, master of none, to win as him you have to drive almost flawlessly and save good boost, expecting the other racers to fuck up definitely helps lmao

it's a great way to put F-Zero in front of lots of new people and it's clearly working wonders but when literally everyone who tries GX falls in love and finds the series suddenly clicks with them, it's easy to feel like there's missed potential and everything it did and its advancements are being forgotten by the industry and public consciousness. Especially when F-Zero's biggest rep for decades, Smash, neglects GX and constantly favours trying to push FZ SNES nostalgia. _And_ the first 2 have been re-released on every single subsequent Virtual Console, while GX never has and is stuck on an obsolete system no zoomer is going to track down to try it on. GX and X brought so much to love about the series like the massive cast, the OSTs, cornball cinematics etc but most ppl who think of FZ think of the limited appeal of the og, excellent as it is. That said, it's always felt weirdly like for a racing game F-Zero has struggled to make multiplayer as appealing as its contemporaries despite the combat and that that could be the area to mine for potential for a new game, and lo and behold they went and found a way to do it! That's sick. Just, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think all fans of a dormant series hope for its eventual comeback entry to put its best foot forward so it has the best chance to become a revival

I don't even know how to play the other karts anymore. They're all so weak and puny, I always push them too hard. I'll be in 30th till I die.
I might even get a top 5 placement every here and then with the goose, mostly somewhere around top 25
