- Update: after updating the tool it was able to talk to my 1999 Ford F350 with a 7.3. I'm not sure if the update changed something or if my first attempt was operator error.

Just picked up the New Launch Creader CRP129E scan tool off amazon.
It can scan most makes and models and can do more than just OBD2 testing. It has the ability to scan Engine, transmission, ABS, airbag and Hybrid control modules. It lacks bi-directional controls but otherwise does a lot of stuff for the price.

@@ThePracticalMechanic Unfortunately dealerships or mechanic shops will not accept your findings because they are hungry for the money and will charge the same diagnostic price by using their scan tool.
Nice scanner for the money. It does charge through the DLC when its plugged in to the vehicle.
It seems like a great deal for the money. It can do things that my Snapon scanner can’t do.
Good test. Useful information. I did see another video where it does do Auto Park Brake manually or has an auto pad change mode.
I need to set a cam retard in a 99 Tahoe Vortec and my old Innova doesn't read camshaft position. A friend has offered to let me use his Snap-On. Last time I borrowed it, when I returned it, he told me how much it cost and visions of it going thru a fan flashed before my eyes. I just ordered one one of these, now down to just over $200 (6-2019) . I could run about 20 of these thru a fan and still be ahead of breaking the Snap-On, although it's a very nice tool, it's quite out of my range.
I hope the Chinese version Launch CRP129e lasts me as long as my old Innova did, I paid about $220 for that one as well, and it's still a good tool for basic code reading and resets, but it's pushing 20 and that's nearly antique in this market.

update it via wifi as soon as u take it out of the box. that made a big difference. the charging cable is in the case pocket. i'm pretty happy with mine so far. it already paid for itself by reading an SRS code that I was able to repair myself. I really wanted bi-directional controls but can't really justify the added expense as a DIYer.

That's definitely an entry level scan tool with no bi directional control, that's good for a diy person but I would buy the autel MP808, it's a professional scan tool with full bi directional control.
I just got the Dia gun V.. I need that Bidirectional.. It saves me so much time.

@@ravieprasaud4527 Turning AC clutch on. Cycle ABS. Send a signal to anything to turn it on or off. To see if it's receiving inputs. If not. I can look for faulty wiring. Bad Fuse. Relay. etc... or just a bad part. I don't have to go touch it. All from the driver seat...

On a CRP 129E, I accidently forced stopped the main software, now it doesn't work properly. How to you factory reset the software? I tried the recovery option in settings, but that only resets user data. It does not reset the software.
Yes Launch is a good scan tool ! If I spend a Extra 150 or $200 mall ? I will get a launch diagun V more optional function to it .
Launch CRP129E for DIY home mechanic or weekend DIY.But if you works on cars everyday,Diagun V is not bad.

Going WiFi is all very nice but I have a router where I enter the units allowed to access it, the MAC address and every device I have has a dedicated MAC address (my cell phone, my laptop, etc). The 129E keeps on changing its damn MAC address which makes it a pain in the ass to connect to my WiFi.
I do not understand why this scanner is not on the Launch website as of May-13-2019?
I’m not sure if it’s just not available through Launch USA or if they just haven’t posted it for sale yet on the site. Since it just came out via amazon it might be an import model that will be posted on the site later.

I just scored one of these for $190. I'm a self proclaimed Advanced Shade Tree Mechanic who owns Chevys and works on my Moms Pontiac and a few friends rides. I haven't gotten it in the mail but I'm starting to second guess my purchase. Should I have spent more and got something with Bi-Directional controls?

Sorry for the delay. I don’t have the crp129 but I do know that it was released a few years ago. The crp129 has a touch screen and may have a few more options as well.

2.it can read more live data and have better graph capability

It should since it has "AUTO VIN" feature.

Can you use this tool to reprogram a blind spot module?
I don’t think so. Most blind system require calibration targets as well for the programming process.
i dont see transmission temp which i need for toyota oil change. is there something else i have to look for?
R. Prasaud I just checked another Toyota and was unable to find transmission fluid temp. I will check with a few different scan tools and see what has access and what doesn’t.

I got mine last year as well. Consumers should know that: 1) it is not an American unit as I found out when calling LAUNCH USA for help, and 2) the damn MAC address changes all the time and that makes it impossible to set MAC filters in the router, and 3) I hope that "built-in" battery lasts 10+ years.

Hay sir, what years does this scanner cover.. Or what do they claim..?
I don’t have it in front of me at the moment but I will see what the latest model year is when I get to work and get back to you. I’m guessing 1996-2018. The vehicle coverage seems pretty good so far and I was even able to reset the brake pad life on a BMW yesterday. My Snapon scanner didn’t even have that option.

I didn’t have any dodge vehicles that year range but I connected it to a 2004 dodge and it worked fine to pull codes and data in the pcm,tcm, and abs. It has 1999 dodges listed in the scantool but I cannot confirm functionality until one comes in.

What's the difference between 129e and 129x?look like the same.
The 129e has a touch screen(instead of the navigation buttons, more reset options, more accessible modules and a larger vehicle list.
129X has more vehicle list. About 63. 129E has about 57. Check the lists on Amazon.

It is possible to look at Russian injector cars with this diagnostics. Can the brain of a car like Obd 2 read?

Some functions require WiFi. Updating the tool and sending code reports requires WiFi. Basic operation of the tool after setup does not require WiFi.

I have not personally scanned a Benz with this tool but it’s on the list so it should be able to.

Not every vehicle has the mileage saved in the pcm so it may not be accessible. Some vehicles have the information in pcm data and other have it saved in the BCM or instrument cluster data.

It’s not bad for a code reader because it has the additional reset functions built in. It’s not going to replace a fully functional scanner like the Diagun, Autel or Snapon.

@@ThePracticalMechanic 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 6.0l this truck is driving me insane I replaced tps,iacv fuel pump,fuel filter,mass air flow sensor,coolant temp sensor . Intake manafold gasket now after I replaced now i have a code for knock sensor bank 2 i was just under there .but what I'm trying to fix is i will be at a light or come to a stop and the truck just stalls only way to get it running is to give it some throttle . The iacv bottoms out .does not allow air to pass for an idle after it does start I get high idle it eventually drops to normal and is good for a week then does it again out of no where it's like it forgets and keeps trying to relearn and the truck sometimes jumps when stopped at a light the idle will jump to 2500rpm it will catch you off guard of your light on the brake almost played bumper tag a few times. So that's what's leading me to believe it's the crankshaft position sensor. Well sorry in advance for the rant. Good day.

I m professional care mechanic! The software is very bad. Almost every second car diagnostic not work properly. I would not recommend to anyone. I worked with launch 10 years, but this product is total fiasco!

The diagnostic tool works also without WiFi.
WiFi is used for upgrade and search google.
Can also send reports, but I'm not sure if anyone even read them.
