    Quick tip nobody asked for: If you're booting linux and it's stuck on the logo, you normally can press ESC to see the terminal output to see at what step it stopped booting up. That way you can diagnose what's wrong with it.
    It's hilarious to me how linus manages to break linux without doing anything, although I have high suspicions that Eurorra fked with this. No way does a handcrafted, 80+ quality assurance steps laptop for $5000 have such blatant issues. The fact that Ubuntu errors basically from the boot up makes me strongly believe so. I believe the "custom" ubuntu simply means "we fked with things" ubuntu. It's hilarious though and seeing linus lose his mind over linux and breaks it whenever he touches it (or not heh) is just great.

      Linux experts are the worst. They just can't understand why someone doesn't want to live in terminal and have to keep a spreadsheet with hundreds of linux commands just to play games and type on their computer. Honestly, those people are the reason Linux has never went mainstream.

    • @isaackvasager9957
      @isaackvasager9957 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Clay Gomera you are exactly the type of person that makes everyone hate linux and are a detriment to it's wider acceptence.
      The line:
      "But you have to keep in mind that using the terminal in Linux is NOT necessary in any way. Almost everything that you can do in a terminal, is possible in a GUI in some way."
      is COMPLETE horse s&*t and anyone that has used linux for more than 2 minutes on a new install knows it.

    • @xxMastufaquxx
      @xxMastufaquxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +111

      @Clay Gomera I'm a well experience Linux user myself. For casual everyday tasks i agree, the terminal is not needed whatsoever. But when it comes to gaming or getting something professionally up, running, and done, the terminal may end up become a necessity out of various consequences and points of failure. And to an end-user who does not have the care and/or time to figure that out when things can just work on Windows or Mac, there is a clear solution: use Windows or Mac, especially when time is money for major companies to the self-employed. That is why Linux has not (yet) become mainstream, although major improvements are being made everywhere to get to that point one day, and I feel that day is coming soon.

    • @xxMastufaquxx
      @xxMastufaquxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @Clay Gomera yeah maybe becoming mainstream is a stretch but i do feel its becoming easier to use every day without the need for terminal use or configuring files, despite fragmentation. Many distro devs are working super hard to tightly integrate everything while keeping it cross compatible and modular. Also true on the gaming part, its relatively easy to install and run games but thats assuming everything else like drivers are set up and youre not unlucky. I have a Steam Deck and there’s honestly no issues getting non-steam games added and running with Heroic and Lutris (i just wish Amazon games had a launcher.)The distro you pick can heavily determine your quality of life too but sometimes you wont know which one that is until you’ve hopped several times.

    As a Linux user, I will attest it’s still got a ways to go in usability on consumer systems (laptops are generally worse because OEMs do some janky things with unnecessarily-specialized hardware and drivers). Nvidia is also usually garbage because they just don’t care about Linux. Linux has a significantly better, more flexible architecture, and could be WAY better than windows if given the same treatment from manufacturers, but nobody develops for it.
    I will say though, I’m excited for the steam deck, because it’s showing people what Linux *can* be like, using proton to force windows games to run on it, and I’m hopeful that it will catch the eyes of manufacturers, because if people actually wrote proper, first-class drivers and software for their stuff on Linux, it would be significantly less annoying.
    It’s okay to say Linux for consumer use is a sub-par experience in terms of ease of use, but thank you for also saying Windows is bad, too, because it is. It’s just bad in a way that people are already used to, so the common knowledge of workarounds and hacks makes it generally easier to work with, even though it has worse reliability (if you choose the right distro and set it up the right way, Linux is *far* more reliable. I’ve had a server running at my old company since I left almost a year ago, and they still use it with nobody maintaining it)

    • @sploders1019
      @sploders1019 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ICEGalaxy7 Well, unfortunately that's to be expected on most name-brand laptops. They usually use weird custom in-house things that they refuse to write drivers for on anything other than Windows. Although, were you referring to initial setup or ongoing usage (installing software, etc)?
      I don't understand how hacked Mac OS would have been an easier install though; that almost sounds like you're just trolling me, because that has even less support (both quantity and quality) than Linux does, considering it's illegal, and you need all these custom hacked bootloaders and random kext files scattered across the internet written by some guy in his basement who didn't want to release the source code to give you any guarantee he's not stealing your personal information. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty cool, and once you get it working, as long as you don't need updates, it's probably pretty user-friendly because unless an app is really trying to find a hacked copy of Mac OS, it should just work like it does on any other Mac. The setup though is a nightmare unless you use fairly sketchy software that usually could easily get you litigated and fined.
      Have you looked at Deepin? I haven't personally used the OS, but I tried their desktop environment for a while on an Arch install (I tried barebones Arch for a little bit as a challenge) and it was pretty user-friendly. It wasn't the most featureful or customizable, but it felt pretty familiar as someone who primarily uses a MacBook.

    First reboot: For the system upgrade(which was optional since you don't need to run the latest kernel software for a game)
    Last reboot: was porbably to update the xorg config to force it to use Nvidia instead of primus
    In the defence of Linus: The fact they chose Nvidia for a Linux Machine is borderline stupid, Nvidia has the worst support for the Linux OS.
    Most of the things happening(Besides the shitty implementation of ubuntu on the machine) were partially user errors, Linus is phenomenal for hardware and windows reviews, but i think they should have let Anthony done the software part of this video.

      I can't agree more. Sitting here on my all-AMD Lenovo Legion with KUbuntu which has been very near perfect. The only slight issue was the HDMI port when both GPUs were enabled, but a quick trip to the BIOS to disable the onboard GPU and it's been smooth sailing. (I would expect a decent manufacturer to do a tweak like that in advance of sending a laptop out for review.) Games run great, they don't lag or tear, temperatures are kept well under control and are easily monitored with KDE's System Monitor, and overall specs are quickly viewed with Info Center. Also, KDE has spent a lot of time polishing the user experience. Whatever configuration of Ubuntu that was is just terrible.

Probably way too many hands in the line of process for it to amass to 250 hours.... Yes Clevo sells us the base and part of the chassis, as we need to develop a full chassis to be viable for a normal amount of money we think we can sell those units for. Secondly each unit we manufacture we need to get picture from client, make 3 renders (image colors, molds and extrusions), create molds and tools, manufacture it, paint it, following the final manufacturing process and then assembly it. All manufacturing is done in the EU not in China as we need autoclave processes that we use for our main business - we manufacture parts for airoplanes and satelites as well as f1 and moto gp parts. Also what they mentioned it not corrently (artist cut). Artists are paid from music and wallpapers we add to the build as we pay them per unit. Also some artists do their own design and resell it as art. Just for details Clevo also manufactures for Alienware and Gigabyte. There are only 5 good OEM companies and Clevo is one of them. And they are the only ones that are workign hard to not have any modern slave workers in any of their chain. Cant say that for Foxxconn (HP, Dell, Apple) or others.

    I'm not shilling Asus, I truly hope other manufacturers follow their blueprint. So many gaming laptops are good at gaming and bad at everything else.
    The Zephyrus has a huge glass track pad, solid keyboard, is lightweight and relatively thin, has a quality 1440p display, good battery life, impressive speakers and it doesn't have the ugly Alienware gamer aesthetic. If you turn the keyboard backlighting to white, most people wouldn't even know it's a gaming laptop. It's been everything I've ever wanted in a gaming laptop and it's been over a year since I've owned it. It's such a brilliant piece of tech.
    People compare it to the Lenovo Legion series and they just aren't in the same class imo. I bought both and returned the Lenovo. The Legion has a slight bump in performance but at the expense of everything else. The Lenovo is slightly better if you always have it plugged into a monitor at home. But just build a desktop if that's your goal. I hope Lenovo and Dell can follow that path. Razer does a great job as well but they're overpriced and Razers QC is not great.

The achieved ~120fps maybe originated from the integrated Iris Xe graphics being used for CS:GO in the second attempt.

      Yeah, it's a weird choice. Also because it's Intel. I mean, if this would be an AMD CPU in Zen 2, it would make much more sense, as those CPUs can work with reasonable power draw, and you can also upgrade it later. On Intel, even if Alder Lake is pretty ok, if not pushed to the max, it's still an i7, I do think it needs some power. Also, I don't know how much you can upgrade it. An i9 wouldn't make much sense, because of too much power draw. And Raptor Lake... if I'm not mistaken it will work in the same socket. But for the same power draw, I think it would make a very little upgrade. I hope I'm wrong.

    • @DaBoomDude
      @DaBoomDude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wouldn't go for Ubuntu anyway, back when i used Ubuntu in 2012, those error messages were a regular thing. also what customization have they done? this looks like a pretty standard installation.. also you can smell the incompetence (or trolling KEKW) - i mean, come on... setting up a NVIDIA based laptop with linux without installing the proprietary driver? They probably installed it, got to the desktop and said "welp its working, lets ship it"..
      Also this is clearly a PRIME/Optimus laptop, because I've heard that its dogshit on linux. if youre gonna ship something like that with Linux - don't.. nvidia dont care about multi-gpu on linux, its a very hit-or miss situation, and running anything on the other GPU requires setting a command or launch option before launching the app, its not automatic based on utilization, there's no functionality like on windows to open a GUI and tell it which apps you want on which GPU. Just go dedicated with the built in disabled. or no dedicated at all.
      In short, this is not how you do a pre-installed linux on a laptop. Its doable, but they clearly have a lot of work to do to make it easier for the end user.
      Aaand just checked the site.. under "Os support" it says linux and even BSD... true enough, but there's no option to buy the Linux version outright (the only option is windows) unless its deeper in the purchase screens.. meaning yes, it "works" but this isnt something they usually do.

      While I hate Ubuntu with a burning passion, it is stable. Linus just broke it. The small line he typed in at 14:52 is all he had to do. Instead, he decided to fuck with the driver, which of course, given that he has no Idea what he is doing went horribly wrong…

At this point the OS obviously has issues, but I am willing to blame his doings for those.

    There's a big difference between
    - shipping it as Linux laptop and specifying Anthony should review it as the Linux master of the channel.
    And
    -sending it improperly setup and letting Linus the Linux Jinx review it. Instead of sending it with Windows which he knows how to operate
    How are we supposed to actually know if it is worth the money when the hardware is so severely hampered by their terrible install that CS:GO at like 100fps is still tearing worse then gas station toilet paper.
    My impression after this is that it's a terrible laptop with a fancy exterior from a company that doesn't give 2 shits about how their product preforms in a customers hands.
