This is a really well designed backpack and probably would be the last I owned, but for over $300 CAD, I still wish for slightly more features. I know Linus is always open to any improvements, so please hear me out!
I could add that the sunglass holder can be placed below the outer pocket, that way it can have a hard shell. Having it at the bottom is an unexpected area to have sunglasses for thieves, and having vertical zippers would allow you to quickly store/retrieve them without any awkward arm reaching or removing the backpack. Also, one of the selling points in bags especially in Asia is blade-resistant bottoms. It’s common for thieves to slice the bottom of the bag and loot your stuff before you get a chance to react. One final addition could be outer clips or straps to carry large objects, I really enjoy the two straps on my backpack currently so I can carry around a small skateboard. To go above and beyond, I would have a collapsable expansion area on the main compartment if the issue was storing bulky items.
I hope Linus sees this! It’s a great bag, but for that price point it has to be absolutely perfect.

Might feel like a nitpick but that was the deal breaker for me even though I absolutely wanted to get this bag. All my other bags allow quick access to my water bottle on the outside so having to set this bag down, unzip it, take out the water bottle, drink and then put it back in seemed to inconvenient for me and ended up being why I didn't get it.

    • @raymondedel6544

I'll add my side being that I don't mind it. I don't know any bags that I can reach my water bottle from my backpack without having to at least shrug it off of one shoulder anyway, so the small extra step in having to partially unzip my bag doesn't bother me. And I even prefer this design for something I'm going to take on a plane so it's a more cooperative shape under the seat or overhead.

I just don’t know what people expect an EU friendly shipping option to be, considering anything substantial could bankrupt LTT if they then don’t put their money where their mouth is and purchase frequent and often from said option. Other then that, it’s got like 2000+ miles to cover to get to you at least.
Like I don’t even work at LTT but even I can see logically why they’d have to pay more. It’s not LTT’s fault they have import taxes into the EU, Euro’s buying power fell, and they have to pay to get someone to carry it to them. @@Abu_Shawarib So you would happily pay 360 USD for a backpack? You realize how much money that is for many people, right?
The only reason why this is so expensive is because they make the bags in China, ship them all over the world to Canada and then ship them to Europe. There are businesses that do nothing else but order fulfillment for stuff from China. So that they'd just need to ship a container from China to the warehouse in Europe from where they could ship the backpacks way cheaper for the customer with lower shipping fees and less import tax struggles.
Have you ever driven 1 hour to your local customs office to pick up a bag, pay an arbitrary amount of money just to get the bag? I can totally see why Europeans would prefer not to deal with all of that.

I got this backpack for myself not that long ago. As a 6' 3" almost dad-bod dude, it just feels a bit small. Fits on my back pretty well, but I feel the straps are a bit small for my shoulders and kind of digs in a bit. But overall, everything else is pretty good so far. As someone who spent $300 and $100 on two Goruck backpacks this looks to be a well built and very well thought through backup. Gorucks have a military design behind them and they are focused on being tough. I love the laser focus on the problems the backpack is looking to solve. Nice design but I got some idea maybe for the next generation of linustechtips backpak.
I'm a college student that daily drive or should I say rides motorcycle to campus. So, a good quality backpack with great ergonomic, function, durability, weather and shock protection is a must from me.
    First, weather protection.
It's essential from where I came from since it rains a lot and most people uses motorcycle to go to work, and we've found the best solution. RAIN COVERS! It's so light, compact and more effective than any other premium waterproof material since it create another layer so condensation from the rain have another layer to go through before it reach your devices. Removable rain cover with its own dedicated compartment in the bottom also help your backpack clean since you only need to wash the rain cover rather than the entire bag and separate your dirty covers from the inside of your backpack. a rain cover also mean covering your bag to any other means of damage like dust, dirt or oil when you're exposed to the weather.
For ergonomics, this 35 liters backpack is going to be very uncomfortable to carry since it doesn't have a HIP BELT. Other than motorcycling, I also go hiking a lot and I've carry 20, 30 pounds of stuff up and down mountains. Hip belt are a must to transfer the weight to your stronger bigger leg muscle rater than breaking your shoulder not having it. It also adds stability when you combine it with supporting rigid frame. Laptops especially gaming laptops weight a lot and surely can damage your spine in a long run if you carrying it wrong. If you dont like it, make it removable! you can also adds easy-to-reach pocket to your hip belt like carrier style hiking backpack to carry small but frequently used items like wallets, keys, lighter, or multitool. Another great idea for increasing the ergonomic of the backpack is to transfer heavier stuff closer to your back, by using COMPRESSION STRAPS so it doesn't tip you back if it's filled to the brim. It's great way to accommodate wide range of need and stuff without necessarily compromising ergonomic, an adjustable volume backpack.
BACK SWEATS. the most effective way to get rid of back sweat I've ever tried when I hike is using a trampoline styled back system, let alone air, a wind breeze can pass your back easily using these bad boy, google it!
Next, usability. Most of backpack here have built in battery pack hub so you can plug in your own battery pack to its built in slot in your backpack so you can plug your cable OUTSIDE of your backpack. So, you can still use your phone OUTSIDE of your backpack while you charging it with your battery pack INSIDE of your bag. This way, you can store your phone in your pants pocket where it belong, while charging it from your backpack at the same time. Mind-blowing right? Next. I notice a most of tech guy uses glasses including me because we stare our screen longer than we supposed to. Some backpack include a dedicated hard-shell compartment for glasses so you dont crush your glasses under all of your device.
Nitpick and bells and whistles. You need to put external water bottle pocket, so if your bottle accidentally opened its not when it's inside your bag ruining all of your electronics. There's a whistle sternum straps buckle adding another functionality to your bag without breaking the bank. And your anti-shock system for laptop compartment could use elastic material so it reduces the momentum of impact for your laptop inside your bag.

I just got my LTT backpack yesterday!!! And I already have contructive criticism:
    1) I miss having snaps over the pocket sleeves in the rear-half. I do not want my stuff, laptops, etc. to fall out of the backpack when the backpack tilts over. I want stuff secured.
    2) The internal water bottle holder. I know this was a coin-flip of a decision, but I think it might have been better to have an expandable pocket to hold the water bottle. I use this spot to hold my small umbrella. I like the holder being inside the backpack since it gives an overall CLEAN look, but for quick access it is a pain to open the backpack to access the water bottle/umbrella. I still LOVE the pocket.
    3) The front section of the backpack is huge, which I love! I think it might to great to create an "organizer' that is down facing and gives tall "slots". I know you have the tech sack, which I will order soon, but I think it would be wonderful to give users an optional SLIDE IN organizer that has verticle cublicles, so items can be slid in and out. Maybe the organizer if adjustable to people can add/remove sections or special pockets/holders. And when someone doesn't need it then it can be removed to allow larger objects.

Some critiques (based of the video alone):
First, this is more of a daypack or weekend pack and less so a backpack. Would LOVE to see the love and attention the team poured into something slimmer for a proper everyday carry. (targeting 6 to 7" depth instead of the 11.5")
This was clearly made for the North American traveling market. Europe's travel sizes are comically smaller.
A proper gap at the bottom of the electronics compartment to protect them from placing a heavy bag down on a hard surface. (or have Linus give a better demonstration of the internal webbing).

A lot of interesting ideas! I have some criticism, though:
Why do you have a chest strap but not a hip belt? If your backpack is heavy and you have to carry it for long period of time, a hip belt is FAR more important than a chest strap. If you use it, a part of the weight is actually on your hips so your shoulders don't have to carry everything. A backpack without a hip belt is more of a gimmick than a practical backpack. At least if you use it for more than carrying stuff the 50 meters from your car to your desk and back (in which case you don't even need a backpack, some other sort of bag will do).
Also, there a far better ventilation soluttions for the back, where you have only a thin net actually touching your back.
Another thing why I would never consider this backpack is that it is not entirely waterproof. I wouldn't want to risk my laptop in that. My backpack has an additional inner pocket for the laptop which ist completely waterproof. It also has big flaps which covers the zippers and it's made from waterproof material - just far superior when it rains. Waterproof backs also tend to have a better isolation so a bootle with a cold drink will stay cold for longer and a hot drink will stay hot for longer.
Also not a fan of the inside being orange. Sure, it might give better contrast, but I would find an all black (or maybe put some grey in there) far more estically pleasing.
The whole idea of paddind the insides of backpack with "screen-safe, soft fabric pannel" will fall short in real life. As soon as some sand or dirt gets in there, screens will get scratches. And most people don't clean the insides of their backpack all that regularly (which is another reason why making the inside orange isn't such a great idea). It's less of a problem for laptops but I'd not want to put a tablet smartphone or anything else with an exposed screen in my laptop without putting it in some sort of additional case or bag first.
The logo looks pretty cheap. It like that it's black on black but stiching would look so much better.

@@noyanky44 Yeah I'd be happy paying just as much for this bag but without that big "pocket of holding" in the middle as 99% of the time I don't carry that much. I don't mind the price, I'm all about buying quality items infrequently rather than lots of cheap crap but its a little too big for me. Not keeping many people away, though, given they've already sold ~9000 of them at time of writing.
Downside is the cost and extreme attention to detail they put into these products means a slimmer variant would be a long process

I bought the OG Oneplus Travel Backpack back in 2018, and the laptop compartment became unusable after 2,5 years. I still use the backpack for travels, since there wasn't any backpack that could replace it until now. When the laptop compartment broke, I got myself the ThinkPad Professional backpack, but it never satisfied my travel expectations.
The LTT backpack delivers on every aspect I love in the Oneplus Travel Backpack, and by the looks of it on even more. The price is a bit too much if we also include taxes, but I put in an order regardless. IF it will hold up for 10 years I will be very pleased with it for this price, but only time can tell. Can't wait to get my hands on it, now I just need to wait for it to arrive.

I would like to see how some of LMG's big boys handle the fit of the backpack. I personally hate most backpacks cause I have broad shoulders and most backpacks are too narrow for a comfortable fit. This leads to digging in at the armpits and weight not being distributed over the whole of my back and centered on my spine. Anthony!! You are my size guru for all LTT merch.

Not just Anthony though, I want to see a variety of shapes and sizes. I have broad shouders but am pretty slim on top beyond that, then I (currently) have a bit of a beer gut. A lot of backpacks end up chafing between my arms and sides of my chest/stomach, or just not sitting nicely at my back.
They really should just do a photoshoot with all (post-probation) employees that are willing, and just post all the pics in a thumbnail gallery in a separate section on the store page. That way they're not offending anyone by picking specific people for their specific shape, and it massively increases the odds of us finding someone with a similar body type to compare with. A little honest

  • @wasserhammer
    @wasserhammer ปีที่แล้ว

I am super impressed by this backpack. For two years I did QA for a teen fashion retailer and investigated quality call outs from customers on backpacks as part of my job. Using YKK Zippers is fantastic as YKK is the premier zipper supplier in the industry. They have phenomenal in house QA for every thing they do and are able to guarantee that their zippers will be of the highest quality (and provide testing to back that up). Having them custom designed zippers is pricey but always worth it, especially if using actual metal zippers vs nylon zippers.
The strap attachments are also key as the triangle attachment to the bottom part of the backpack is super strong and helps prevent seam slippage and fabric tears. There was no mention, but I am assuming the the upper part of the shoulder straps are included in the attachment of the handle on top. This would provide more reinforcement, especially with the rivets. The rivets are a slight concern, but that will entirely depend on the factory producing the backpacks in house quality. If the factory does not change and manage the molds that are applied to the machinery to apply the rivets, the rivets could end up leaving tears that will weaken the fabric. Based on everything that I have seen in the video, I have to believe that the team is aware of that potential and has requested additional woven fabric reinforcement between the layers.
All in all, the price actually seems pretty good for this backpack. I can't even imagine how much back and forth with the factory they went through on different revisions until they finalized the design and were able to book line space to have the backpack sewn.

I know they put the mesh there to prevent things from falling out, but I think there would have been more space if they did their original design he mentioned. Also, the material is not soft AT ALL (except where it protects screens). When I was putting things in and out of the bag with the compartments partially open, the fabric was chafing the back of my hands really bad. I have sensitive skin though and my hand skin has always been pretty soft, so YMMV. Overall though, I really like it! I came from an Alienware Orion M17X backpack that I had for 7 years which finally had one of the zippers to a main compartment fail to the point where it wouldn't stay closed, and that backpack had some other cool features like being able to open completely flat for the laptop compartment so TSA didn't make you take out your laptop (many agents frequently made me do so regardless of it being compliant with their rules, but w/e). An honest question: would you buy it if it were the same price? I've run into this before with thinking I'd save money on something because I went with a smaller size, but it's often not the case. If all of the same number of pieces need to be cut and sewn, all of the same hardware pieces have to be sourced and attached, the labor is 100% identical, so the only savings might be 1-2% in overall material for the slightly less amount of fabric and possibly a zipper than might be 2" shorter. The same way they can charge the same amount for the two sizes of water bottle, because the manufacturing process and lids are identical, and the small difference in aluminum wasn't enough to warrant a different price. I feel like that would be the case here, as well. I think it's partially why compact phones aren't super popular, because there's just not enough material savings to make a big-enough dent in the price.

I dont travel much, but when i have to go into the office or kids sports stuff, its nice to have. its a 55L that fits 18.4in laptops (though it doesnt seem any bigger than yours), has a reinforced handle (theres a metal wire cable going through it). it came in with a built in USB so that you could plug a phone into it (into a portable battery), but i took that out and just have a cable hanging out so i can plug my device in without having to have an extra usb cable. i can easily load it up with 30lbs of stuff. I just packed it up for a trip with 3 laptops and chargers, 2 mice, OTE headphones, a Switch, 3 controllers, a portable battery pack, 2 DSs with their charging cables, multiple other charging cables and bricks, 2 books, a small first aid kit, and other small misc items. its comfy to wear (though i havent worn it for any sort of long stretch) and seems like really good quality so far. i expect it to last a long time.

I've been trying to buy things that aren't gonna just be chucked away in no time. This is where the backpack would come in. Totally getting one, the 300 is not even that bad

This looks great! I could have used this over my last 4 years of college, but if I end up carrying around a lot of stuff for work I'll definitely pick one up! (screwdriver I'm picking up day one though) Additionally - hearing the $250 price tag earlier sounded a little high, but after this video it 100% makes sense. This thing is made to last.

Yeah my current bag was 150$ its a camelback that broke in the way linus described. This bag is too bulky for my use but dang its a good value.

Beautiful backpack and design, really loved it. Great video also. The only thing keeping me down is that I'm from Argentina and 300usd it's like a whole month of work or more.

Love how well thought out everything is, I would totally get one, if I would be travelling lots. Unfortunately it seems a bit big for everyday use of just bringing just a laptop, lunchbox, LTT water bottle and some sunglasses etc... Would love to see a version with all key features in a smaller footprint. Keep up the good work. I'll buy a smaller one for sure! Even if it will still cost around $200, since it might be the last backpack you'll ever buy.

Between this and the screwdriver there's a lot of needed engineering going on at LTT, this is exciting and I can't wait to see what you'll come up next.

There's one little thing you've missed, BUT it can be a detachable section in the big compartment. Something to carry a DSLR or mirrorless camera with one or 2 lenses... THAT would be the ultimate, multifunctional, lots of banana for scale backpack...

The pockets in the tech compartment could easily be used for that. Have 1 on the body of the camera (Depending on size, although if you're running a 500mm you're not using a tech bag). Then have one in one of the compartments you'd use for your laptop charger.
Personally even if I was working I'd only need 1 body, maybe a spare, which could easily be held in this bag in several places, followed by a lens on one of the bodies, normally slung over my should tbf but it could fit in the bag; the other would be within the bag itself in the place he puts the power bank as I'd put mine in the front or side pocket tbf.
A voila, problem solved. Also; if you're running and gunning such as in Motor-sport photography you're either going to have a camera harness, or one camera slung and the other stowed. This bag could easily accommodate this without being as big and cumbersome as some Manfrotto bags

Traveled to Italy with this bag - had some problems fitting it under the seat, though it was also lower than the normal seat youd find on an airplane. Love this bag still, absolutely a lifesaver as someone who carries around 2 laptops everyday for school. I have a Linux thinkpad and a gaming laptop, the gaming laptop obviously being the beefier one, but at times I need access to a Linux terminal.
