I'm a longtime TFF fan, and it was a shock when I realized how so much of their music was about psychology! For example, "Shout" is about primal scream therapy and the whole album The Hurting is about childhood trauma. Still, I do find so much of it you can dance to! In this, the bass and synth are so strong! Amazing music!

You are making this 44 year old so happy reacting to this song!😊
I grew up hearing this track, but other hits of theres got bigger airplay as they were churning out the hits by then, I heard all of them as a kid of the 80's. This one holds a speacial place in my heart, though, the prgression driving the song with Rolands guitar strums and his UNMATCHED vocals, know one can compare to his voice after all these decades he's gifted.
Sowing the seeds of loves showcases it. 👌🏽
I have the best of album on my playlist, and this track is on constant replay that intro is an addictive masterpiece!😊
Sending love from the UK 🇬🇧.

You said it sounds like they're "depressed." They WERE depressed. They believed in something called "Primal Scream Therapy" although they later came out of it and were embarrassed by how moody they'd been, but it produced some awesome music. Still on your list: "Change" "The Working Hour" "Mothers Talk" "I Believe" "Advice for the Young at Heart" and "Break it Down Again." Some personal faves are "The Way You Are" and the *remix version* of "Suffer the Children."

This song is a great live song too. I’d say that you should do No Small Thing or Break The Man from the new album. You’ll be able to tell it’s newer from the more mature and cohesive sound and their vocals too but still that unique and beautiful sound and skill as songwriters too.

Both Curt and Roland had unhappy childhoods, so expressing their pain and suffering shows-up prominently in their early music. You can see in the video they're young and in their early 20's. Their music was so interesting and different right from the beginning when I first heard them as a teen.

It's called "Acting My Age". On a similar note, when Phil Collins was a teenager, he was in a band called Flaming Youth. There's 2 different videos on TH-cam of Flaming Youth performing on music TV shows, which are around 25 minutes each. In the late 1970s to early 1980s, Phil was the drummer for the jazz fusion band Brand X, the same time he was in Genesis.

I love that you guys called it "trance" and the mysterious side of a lot of music from bands like T4F in the 80's had a kind of Gothic vibe (like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees to name a couple) that continued on into the 90's, transforming into Emo style in the 2000's etc. Those "darker" emotions expressed artistically, such as depression, appeal to us when we're having a sad moment or a bad day - even when we're wrestling with our inner demons, so songs like this give us a vibe , especially when we feel vindicated by their art. What's great about bands like this is that they also have a different style, which provides us with deeper insights into ourselves as well as offering the musical world other flavors to play with, when creating their own music. I'm rambling here but I wanted to try to articulate the "mysterious" vibe and how it plays into our emotions and psychological imperatives. Lotsa luv ❣

Can never go wrong with Tears for Fears. A couple of artists you should react to again that were popular during this time are New Order and Depeche Mode. From New Order listen to the version of "Bizarre Love Triangle" from the Substance album and Depeche Mode's live version of "I Just Can't Get Enough" from DM 101. I know you reacted to the studio version, but you haven't really heard that song until you hear the live DM 101 version. Thanks for all you do, blessings!

    Great reaction, guys!
FYI, a very similar UK 80s band is Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). That’s a rabbit hole you’ll both enjoy going down. I know you already did their ‘If You Leave’ but there are great songs you simply HAVE to hear from them, such as ‘Souvenir’, ‘Maid of Orleans’, ‘Locomotion’, ‘Joan of Arc’, ‘Enola Gay’, ‘Talking Loud and Clear’ and ‘Forever Live and Die’.
Other bands/artists you’d love from this UK 80s synth era are:
    China Crisis
    Icicle Works
    Nik Kershaw
    Thomas Dolby (try ‘Hyperactive’!)
    Thompson Twins
    Echo and the Bunnymen
    Wah! (AKA The Mighty Wah!)
    Landscape
    The Passions
    Altered Images
    Japan
Ultravox (You guys will LOVE this band!)
Erasure (you need to give these more of a chance, imo)
Talk Talk (specifically ‘Life’s What You Make It’ - classic!)
    Blancmange (witty lyrics!)
Heaven 17 (oh, my - ‘Temptation’ is a MUST for your channel!)
Human League (you HAVE to react to ‘(Keep Feeling) Fascination’ - banger!)
Roxy Music (they’re nuts - but they’re brilliant!)
Love the channel, guys. Regards to the family.

Yes, there was a lot of angst and confusion in our generation’s youth during the 80s. We were sold a American Dream that didn’t really exist. We lived in a world where nuclear war seemed highly likely. Many felt that we wouldn’t be here by 2023. The music of the time reflects all of that. ❤🎶

The 80's were not only bright colours and upbeat songs about having fun, its dark side is so much more interesting. These guys were literally singing about trauma, abandonment issues while defining the sound of that decade.

Hey Amber & Jay, I thought I would suggest another artist that I believe, you've reacted to once or twice before. "BJ Thomas Sings Hooked On A Feeling/ Good Night America (May 1st, 1974)" --Billy Joe Thomas was an American singer widely known for his country, and his contemporary Christian pop hits of the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Fun Fact: He even sang at Elvis Presley's funeral and he professed to be a massive fan of Elvis'. Thomas recorded dozens of records over the course of his decades long career. Hope everyone is well and doing okay, Amber. We really appreciate the work you and Jay put into these reactions. thanks so much

Tears for Fears are a brilliant band that have influenced music for over 40 years and are still going strong today. I remember that Pale Shelter was the only album that my Sgt Major would allow in the barrack room when I first joined the army, so everytime I hear it it still gives me the shivers. If you guys enjoyed ‘Shout’, then you should definitely check out the Shout 2000 version by heavy metal band ‘Disturbed’, who are not only famous in their own right for writing their own fantastic tracks, but also for doing amazing covers (check out Disturbed’s Land of Confusion (Genisis cover) and Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel cover)… love the channel

Awesome video! My favorite Tears For Fears song! Can you guys do more reactions to The Smiths? When you guys reacted to "How Soon Is Now", you guys got one of their more dark sounding songs. They've got a lot of good ones! I'd recommend any of the following: "Bigmouth Strikes Again", "Ask", "Well I Wonder", "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore", "Hand In Glove", "This Charming Man", and "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now".
