The radio version of Head Over Heels is fine, but the song really shines on the album. The transition from Broken to HOH and then back to Broken (reprise) adds to the grandeur of the music.
This is the song my fiance and I walked down the aisle to. Its my ringtone when my wife calls me and although we got married over 20 years ago, this song still - always - makes me smile as I recall that wonderful day.
'Funny how tiiiime fliiiies...' Truer words were never spoken. I was in 10th grade when this came out, and that last line pulls at my heart in ways I can't explain.
Same here. Same age. And here we are older and time has flown by… Sometimes a song just put you right back to that age with your friends and everything that’s going on in your world at that age. Bittersweet.
Total side note, but here’s why Andy and Alex are legit top notch reactors, they always listen to the correct versions of the song they’re reacting to, and they LISTEN to, and are not distracted by videos etc.. They just listen to the music the way it was meant to be listened to. Much respect to you both, it sets you apart from 99% of the rest.
I can't overemphasize how this album really took off like it was on fire the first summer it was out. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was obviously the big attention-getter, but the whole album turned out to be so good that it made a lot of instant fans!
I had been in England a couple of years before when the Police were breaking out... and then when Songs From the Big Chair came out I was blown away. While all of my friends in NC were still doing the southern rock thing (which is awesome) I was full tilt Tears For Fears, Police, and any of the bands coming out of England.
@@healthcarethoughtleadership Not sure if you were in England in mid-80s, but if you were, do you remember a group called Prefab Sprout, by chance? They didn't do much in the US (and I stumbled upon them by sheer chance), but their 1985 album Steve McQueen (Two Wheels Good in the US) was PHENOMENAL! Nonetheless, they probably didn't do much here in the US because of all the competition in '85.
I love the proud "Yeah!" (3:18) from keyboardist , Ian Stanley, after the Synth solo . The band left it in he mix as the vibe was great when recording the song.
This song transports me. THIS is the sound of the 80s. Lucious choruses. Proper usage of keyboard, synthesizers, etc. the drum machine doesn’t even bother me. The production is fantastic. This whole album was great. Even for someone like me who is not a big fan pop music. You can’t help but love this album.❤
This song isn't drum machine. Head over Heels: Real Drums. Shout is drum machine except for maybe the break? The producer is credited with drums on it.
The album they made last year is amazing. They still got it. I was wrong when I was younger and thought they were pretentious because all the preppies loved them, man was I wrong. These guys are great. Good stuff 👏
Roland Orzabal is such an underrated vocalist, he's amazing! I love TFF, have seen them live several times -- this album was SO huge back in the day, not a bad song on the record. It does not disappoint, deserves a Patreon listen!!
When this came out, although we liked it, I think we were underrating: "Oh yeah, it's a new wave vibe...That's cool", and we were lumping them in with bands like Flock of Seagulls...It was years later before I realized: "This is actually quite sophisticated songwriting"...
I love the way the video to this song ends. They are old and he is sitting at his desk and she brings him a cup of coffee. Just as he sings "Isn't it funny how time flies." As always great reaction guys.
I’m an 80’s metal guy but this is absolutely one of the best songs ever written. Every part of this song is perfection. Not one wasted note, lyrically fantastic and immaculately played and sung.
One of the best songs from one of the best bands from the 80's!! I'm so glad the guys enjoyed it so much, I hope they add it to their personal playlists!! Now they need to hear "Sowing The Seeds of Love" and "Woman in Chains"!!
Very good call to recognize this is one of those tracks that Real Ones love the most. Another: ADVICE FOR THE YOUNG AT HEART. peak of their powers stuff. hidden masterpiece.
Roxy Music was one of a 2 or 3 original bands to come out of the 70's. They won't play them. My favorite, "Amazona". Which was sampled by Ice-T on That's How I'm Livin' (On The Rox Remix).
Yeah, this is S tier. Something about listening to this song while driving in rainy Gloucestershire England in a small 90s hatchback is an inexplicable feeling full of goosebumps I get. The keyboard only version with no vocals is god tier too.
For me it was blasting around Europe in June of '85 in a 735i that I'd bought (& which was stolen in the south of France but eventually recovered) listening to this. The $ was strong and the bubbles were cheap. Great times.
Thank You. Still plenty of songs from them. "Woman In Chains" (duet with Oleta Adams), "Sowing Seeds of Love" (Beatlesque in best possible way), ""The Working Hour," "Mad World" and more.
The poly-melodies at the end are like a perfect brain massage. Piano and geoup vocals, guitar, bass, lead vocals, having different melodies that somehow do not clash and flow perfectly. It's genius. So climactic. But not too heavy or hard. Amazing
You might still be crazy 😊. But all kidding aside, there just seems to be some similarities between their style and the Beatles. One would need to know what music was influential in the development of their style to see if the Beatles had some affect on the band. Another song I enjoy is Woman in Chains. I don't recall if it's in this album and it's not what you might think from the title; it's a metaphor, but this song is excellent to listen to when driving down the highway. Enjoy!

This album reminds me of a really cool time when I was about 22. I worked in a psych institute and had great coworkers. We were all young grad students. It was probably ‘88. A bunch of us rented a ski chalet in Vermont and went up there for a long weekend. After skiing (I don’t actually ski so I drank cocoa with whiskey in the lodge all day). Songs from the big chair deserves an entire album listen. It’s one of the best albums of the 1980s. Period.

The radio version of Head Over Heels is fine, but the song really shines on the album.
The transition from Broken to HOH and then back to Broken (reprise) adds to the grandeur of the music.
Yes it was given that distinction even recently.
Absobloodylutely.
THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE.
Sowing the Seeds of Love is an indelible Beatle’s homage that you have to hear to believe, and Woman in Chains is heavenly. Take your pick.
Agree with both. I also love "Advice for the Young at Heart".
Definitely "Sowing the Seeds". EPIC!
AND “Bad Man’s Song”
Woman in chains, Bad man’s song and Famous Last Words are my top three picks from the album but the whole album is perfection.
Seeds of Love is tied with Head Over Heels for my favorite.
You called it, dude. This is 100% my favorite Tears for Fears song.

This song never fails to put me back in the 80s when it was new. Funny how times flies.
Great songs never get old, they just keep getting played
So true
Sowing The Seeds Of Love should be next.
+1 Sowing The Seeds!!!
That song was on the radio in a VERY timely fashion as a reminder to use a condom when I was 16. Disaster averted.
The soundscape of Sowing the Seeds of Love is so extra. Big, big +1.
Their homage to The Beatles. Great stuff
Absolutely
One album. That's all on ONE album. Head Over Heels, Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Working Hour, Mother's Talk, I Believe, Broken...
And Listen.
And this should always be played with the Broken at the end. The boys missed this one.

Rick Beato did a nice breakdown of this song as part of his “What Makes This Song Great” series.
