Awesome! Been wanting to see a reaction to this for the longest time. I just love the little bit of connection between the stories in the video. Wish I had seen this when it first appeared. You made my year.
Such an amazing introspective and cathartic album for those who didn't fit in, and this is one great song from it... hard to communicate it's "place" against the grain of pop culture and pop music back then. Dark, minimalistic, futuristic, intellectual, emotional, all at once.
Really well observed, Eric. I adored _The Hurting_ as a 12yo girl and played it in heavy rotation, even though some of the depth of the album may have consciously escaped me at that age. I still love it now. I also bought the 12" of every release they made - the 80s seemed to be the home (birth?) of a wealth of cool extended 12' mixes.
Glad you found this song. Tears for Fears owned the world 40 years ago and their music will live forevermore. This is probably my favorite TFF song. Penetrates to the bone.
As someone who was a teen in the 80’s I can attest that 80’s music was more of a vibe than anything else. You had to “be there” to truly understand it. 😂
Everyone seems to react to 'Shout' and 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' and they are amazing songs but it's great you're reacting to their earliest music. This and 'Mad World' are my favourite tracks by TFF. Curt and Roland are truly great song writers.
Thanks for the reaction. Last few videos have really been fun 80's stroll. In the 70s music TV was all about live performance with some videos. By 82 that was really flipping with MTV. The other thing is how much synth's took over especially in UK and Europe. Even ABBA did "The Visitors" that's totally synth pop. But it was all new and a fresh breath. You were asking about people dancing, well this is were it started to change. Anyway thanks again. By the way pretty sure these guy's just dropped new music this month “The Tipping Point”. You should react to it if your a fan.
Tears for Fears had a whole bunch of hits; I love 'Pale Shelter' but you are right in that I don't think it got much airplay in the U.S. They do still perform it live, though. Another song of theirs I love (which is an album cut and a fan favorite) is called 'The Working Hour.' I especially love this live version from 2014, so if you ever want to check out a more recent performance by them of a lesser-known song, I recommend this. Not a bad song on 'The Hurting' or 'Songs From the Big Chair' albums. I don't think this song was played in the US. They hit it big here with the following album. Have you heard the new release "The Tipping Point" they released a week or two ago. Already over 800k views on that one.
This Song was played in the US but it depended on where you lived. We had a New Wave station here in Miami called K-102 so we used to hear all of the early Tears For Fears stuff.
Good Reaction Tysheen. Tears For Fears (TFF) did some excellent videos to accompany their string of hits. Please react to TFF "Advice For THe Young At Heart" and it is a lovely video with Oleta Adams playing Piano and a Latino Wedding taking place. THAT is the video with the Latino wedding...
My favourite song by them
me too!
Love this song since the first time I heard it.

Well put!

My favorite song of theirs.
Their harmonies on this song are extraordinary!
Saw them in concert 3 years ago in Dublin and they still sound amazing and are still selling out arenas !
They're fabulous live!
My God what a debut album.
What a hook this song is, a top fiver '80s in my space.
Very nice and very cool.
I got the album, this tune is on 'The hurting' in 1983
Well done, Tysheen

You missed the bit at the end when the paper plane hits Roland smack in the eye... that must of hurt.
Tears for Fears are one of my Favs
"They ruled the 80s." Yes, along with a few others, they pretty much did.
My respect for who ever made those paper rockets in this video🤔🙏😅
There is a video where a Paper Plane/Rocket from the Top Tier flew right down on a European Football pitch and hit a player on the nose :)
@@Isleofskye 😱 Beats hitting his eyes🙈🙏
Great song
