Make no mistake, the composition of this song is a pure shout-out by Roland and Curt to their fellow Brits the Beatles. The imagery in this video is also something you would associate with a Beatles song, the 1960's animation that was thrown in for example.
For me, this song overall is a 180 from the all-out synth-pop/rock sound TFF started out with and became so widely known for during the Songs From The Big Chair era, and like so much of their work, just another masterpiece. 💯

"Sowing The Seeds Of Love": BEATLES sound, BEATLES tempo, BEATLES rhythm, BEATLES instrumentation, BEATLES orchestration, BEATLES backing chorus vocal, BEATLES arrangement. THE BEATLES influence (post-'Revolver' album) is fully assumed here... and the song is magnificent!
    Thank you.

The song is a throwback to '60s nostalgia (big in the late '80s) with a nod to The Beatles and a kind of Flower Power philosophy to it, including political lyrics starting with "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man" and ending with "An end to need and the politics of greed."
Written by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, the lyrics in this song are a byproduct of Orzabal's interest in psychology and philosophy - he cites Sartre's Les Mains Sales and Arthur Janov's Primal Scream as literary influences. The song is a call to action, asking us to reject the status quo: "High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man."

The guys did an interview a few years ago and, when asked what the album after Sowing was like, they replied "we're done with The Beatles tribute, we had to get it out of our system!". Fabulous band, their most recent work, The Tipping Point, is an absolute beauty of an album, my favourite of 2022 alongside Last Night In The Bittersweet by Paolo Nutini and Closure/Continuation by Porcupine Tree.

Religion, politics and Association football teams, you may know that as football/soccer.
    Wikipedia:
The modern rules of association football are based on the mid-19th century efforts to standardise the widely varying forms of football played in the public schools of England.
Public Schools are fee paying schools in England. English schools are called state schools, mostly.

Great to hear another TFF classic. Can I make an unusual suggestion? Could you play "Mad World" by TFF followed by the Gary Jules cover in the same reaction? The original is a classic in its own right but the Gary Jules version is widely acclaimed and was the UK Christmas number 1 in 2003. Same lyrics very different song. Its up there with Disturbed "Sound of Silence" or Eva Cassidy "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as great covers.
