Make no mistake, the composition of this song is a pure shout-out by Roland and Curt to their fellow Brits the Beatles. The imagery in this video is also something you would associate with a Beatles song, the 1960's animation that was thrown in for example. For me, this song overall is a 180 from the all-out synth-pop/rock sound TFF started out with and became so widely known for during the Songs From The Big Chair era, and like so much of their work, just another masterpiece. 💯

The original is a classic in its own right but the Gary Jules version is widely acclaimed and was the UK Christmas number 1 in 2003. Same lyrics very different song. First saw them in 1983. Still in my top 5 live concerts. Roland has such a powerful voice, showcased in Woman in chains.
