  • Continuing the 2020 Miami Boat Show Series, this video provides brief walk throughs on 6 Center Console brands:
    Dusky
    Reef Runner
    Velocity
    Trophy
    Cobia
    Sportsman
    The word "affordable" is very subjective - the boats here are in the $50k to $150k range. Let me know what you think.

    Again, the key word here is "affordable" (and yes, in quotes). In 2006, I bought a new 19 footer with trailer for 16.5. In 2009, I bought a new 23 Pilothouse with Trailer for 39k. Yikes, boat prices have increased but hopefully this video shows you that with more $$$$ comes some nicer features.

    Crevalle 26 bay or open, both amazing and well laid out. I got mine with the 350 suzuki in 2019 for 115. Dual 12” simrads, lenco trim tabs, seastar jack plate, forward cushion package, forward table, sun canopy for the front and back. Amazing sound system, onboard chargers, yeti 65 slide out cooler and an igloo under the rear seat, misters on the ttop, porta potty, underwater lights, premium leaning post with drawers for storage, and much more. Crazy decked out.

    I know this is a 2 year old post, but still great. I really like the ter-let in that Cobia. I am glad to see that even smaller CC's are including a space if only for a porta-potty. That really turns a day boat into an overnight or maybe 3 day boat providing you have access to fuel pumps. Thank you for the post.

    Just blows me away that you can get a low 20 some footer for 50-70K, but then the 28 footers are 3 or 4 times that much. Obvious they are nicer, but 150 to 200K for 27-28 feet seems crazy.

    Ya know, Sportsman boats really are great boats for the money but for literally just a few thousand more you can get a 23' Sea Hunt 234. Can't go wrong with SH hull, Carolina flare and build quality for the money. I personally like the 55° bow entry and 18° transom. It allows guys to fish skinny back bay stuff, (14" draft) and yet ride darn nice in 3 or 4 footers. Just wish they'd put lockable rod storage in the bow.

    Bulls Bay makes a affordable 23' boat, they bought and use the Triton molds. Dusky was affordable but they're prices are steady climbing and their boat remains the same design with outdated console's. Cobia seems to be the leader with style and innovation and price. Scouts, Blackfins, Everglades, Boston Whalers are just to overpriced for what you get. The search for the perfect boat is just never ending.

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are spot on with dusky and I agree with your other assessments too although I’ve read some QC issues with Bulls Bay. The dusky thing confuses me - why they don’t innovate a little more. You still have to pay to have the aft boxes deleted. Gas tank is a joke. Just not enough capacity for anyone who really doesn’t want to fill up after each trip. They could really be a winner here if they just updated their designs a little more.

    • @TSemasFl
      @TSemasFl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jiggingjerks I agree with that, their fuel tanks need to be expanded, although I think it is a option tho. They put two 60 gallons inline. I like the Duskys their factory is about 6 miles from me. Now that I'm a older guy, I want more from a boat. That means a little fishing and trolling in the morning and sandbar the rest of the day. Then women need their comforts. The Cobia really fits the ticket.

    Cobia wins hands down....well for a guy with a family who wants convince and comfort up front with out having to do further build outside after purchase.
    However, those cheaper boats in the 50+ - 60+ range would be perfect for the man who just needs a boat to go deep if he needs to and just fish. Safety is always the no. 1 priority and consideration tho.

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No longer made!!!! They make a 22 now with more family creature features (the aft corners are seats). Smallest fishing model with no forward seating is now the 25T. I don’t understand some of these decisions. Regulator made their 26 for 25 plus years and then just a abandoned it even though it was probably their best model ever

Took 2 years for dealer and factory to revolve bilge a d console area completely filling with water. Note you can't access hoses without cutting fiberglass out so they took motor off and chopped it upto fix. Now i am having corrosion in all electric plugs that where submerged snd boat sits low in port side because of trapped water. They offered to fiberglass metal on starboard side to get it level. Look at your hoses and try figure out how you will replace when they start getting old. Also why are there no seacocks on openings below waterline.

    Question for you... If you are looking for a CC to beused primarily for fun trips, head out to Bimini & Exumas with 2-4 friends or family, do some fishing and adventure into the keys, what would be the absolute smallest boat you would consider? I have been looking into the 32' to 35' , but prices are out there... would a 27' to 29' be considered safe to do that crossing? also fuel tanks seem to be much smaller in that size. Looking forward to your suggestion

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      New or used? I tell you, the MOST underrated CC out there is the Angler 2600. 200 gallon tank and a beast! I used to own an Everglades 29 and they are expensive but I wouldn’t hate to take that boat to the Bahamas - an overbuilt, non-sinkable tank of a boat with 200 gallon tank. I’m also a prior Cobia owner and the Cobia 280 is a sweet boat with (I think) a 189 gallon tank which should give you 400 miles of range with twin 200s

    Why have the prices of boats skyrocketed? Has the demand gone up that much or have the companies limited supply?

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think it’s limited supply, because they are turning them out really fast, in fact if you visit some of the boating websites you will see a lot of QC issues with new boats that I don’t think we’re there before. I attribute that to these guys just pumping out boats at record speed. I think the prices are high because the demand is there. If we ever get into another financial crisis, a real bad one like in 2008/2009, you will see the prices normalize again as the prices will undoubtedly go down. That’s my opinion at least. It’s a catch 22 for sure because you don’t want a financial crisis but I think it will take that to bring prices down.

    • @jiggingjerks
      @jiggingjerks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you hit the nail on the head with one of the reasons prices are high. BUT, boat building is one of the remaining American manufacturing industries- this is an interesting ying/yang conversation. On the one hand, boats built in the US cost more because American labor costs more. On the other hand, if you had boats manufactured in China or some other place, they would cost less for sure but American jobs will be lost. Not to mention I don’t think you’d get the same quality.....

    • @redsoxwinagain2007
      @redsoxwinagain2007 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jigging Jerks I agree and appreciate that the US owns this market. However, costs could be reduced by them investing some of their gains back into technology in manufacturing. While I appreciate “hand laid” as great sounding marketing, I am also VERY conscious that good boat builders are a dying breed and that something built by the hands of some can be of less quality than efficient machines and automation.
      On the flip side, I bought my boat used 7-8 years ago and oddly is worth 25% more now over what I paid due to the rising costs of new boats. Something that wealth advisors I’m sure are still scratching their heads to understand...

Installed a sound system and refurbished the T-top. Did a complete paint and gel coat. Got two user four strokes under 2 years old with only 200 hours. Purchased a solid used trailer and put all stainless bolts.
